RPGM Completed To The Light [Z GOD & ZOV Game Studio]

I'm a little stuck. The only option I have at the main menu is "load game" which loads an autosave that has the girl backed into a dead end by a monster that promptly kills her - game over.

I can escape to get an inventory, but I can't work out how to attack or defend or escape. The walkthrough doesn't help much since the autosave doesn't seem to load from the start position shown in the first map.

Any hints, anyone?

Late reply just in case someone else tries to play. Use up and down arrows or mouse wheel when LOAD comes up to cycle NEW, OPTION and EXIT.

Not sure if something is wrong or if steam has changed stuff, but I just downloaded the mediafire link version, and running game.exe does nothing, the first time windows asked if I was sure, and stated unknown author, which I said ok to, after that nothing. The gofile link is dead completely.
