I've mostly been playing updates for the last month or so, but I've been so busy they've been taking a while (especially since a few of them have been big updates of slow-burn games). I'm hoping to get to some more new stuff soon though - I have 145 left on my list to try!
That's still more than I have tried in two years

Shared Desires by CasaliusAfterDark

There's not much to this game yet, but it's been a while since I played a new game that I felt I could say enough about to constitute a short review, so here we are. We're being set up for the classic "husband and wife having a rocky patch decide to explore sharing and/or swinging" story, but it feels like it will be at least slightly different to the majority of similar games. For one, this one is slated to be a kinetic novel, so there won't be the separate paths for loyal/cheating/sharing, or whatever, and I appreciate the dev being honest about that up front, saying it was originally his intention to have choices and paths, but that he felt it would take too much time and work.

The other main difference so far is that it's the wife who is looking to be the one making the suggestion to explore new ground. The first release sets that up, with just a few scenes, but a decent amount of dialogue as two friends chat while sunbathing. One is already living the lifestyle, and she's gradually persuading her friend to try it out as well. Usually, this tends to form a bit of a tired trope where the friend is ultimately corrupting the wife into cheating on her husband, but it doesn't feel that way to me here, not so far, at least.

We have a few men mentioned who might be candidates for trying something with, including the friend's college-age son, and although we haven't met the husbands yet, there is mention of work at a gym potentially introducing new women to the dynamic as well. The two best friends also look set to potentially explore each other, with glances and thoughts suggesting some lesbian content can be expected (which the future tags also point towards). So although not a lot happens in the initial release, the setup is there for plenty to happen later, and I like how it doesn't dawdle in that respect - it just remains to be seen whether it will end up rushing it once we continue with the next couple of updates.

Visually, the game looks pretty good, although we spend most of the opening release outside, in great lighting, so that helps. The two main women also look good, even if they don't perfectly align with my tastes. I'll give this one an update or two to see how it goes, but it's off to a decent (if not specifically impressive) start.

It'll be interesting to hear your take on this. For me, seeing "kinetic", "troubled/boring marriage", and "bbc" is a formula for another of those stories that I loathe. I may end up playing following this one vicariously through you... ...I'm unable to consider something kinetic as a game; more like a movie to me.

I admit, this one being kinetic might be a bit weird for me, especially as if it had the choice to, I would usually avoid the BBC content (not a trope I enjoy). I enjoy My Husband's Boss, which is kinetic, but the dynamic here is a lot different. There I feel almost like I'm watching a movie, with this one, not so much, so I'll just see how it goes for an update or two. As I said in my write-up though, I appreciate how the dev was upfront in telling us that's how it was going to be.

Oh, absolutely. I make a point of at least leaving a note on sites saying "thanks for being upfront about your content. It's clearly not for me but I appreciate your warnings." I tend to check in on those sites later to see if the dev is creating something I might be more likely to appreciate. While I might not enjoy a particular genre or story, a good dev is a good dev and I like to follow those.

As you're aware, you and I view MYB very differently but that's okay; my views tend to put me at odds with most posters on sites like that. The one thing I will give that developer credit for is that many of the posters who cheer Vivian for betraying Hutch are incensed that she now is betraying Christian (the bull vs. Hutch's cuck).

The dev NTR'd the NTR fans. I love that the dev did that.

Futuotica by Futuotica

This is sort of a review of two halves, in a way. On the one hand, the story feels quite fresh for a sci-fi AVN, but on the other hand it also feels like it could get stale quite quickly. It has some really nice LIs, but at the same time they’re quite generic – with my favourite being mostly identical in style, hair, and hair colour in at least two other games I can name off the top of my head. There are choices, so it’s not a kinetic novel, but actually those choices don’t seem to have any variables attached to them, so the only difference they make is a few lines of dialogue each time.

So it feels like this is a game that looks quite promising on the surface, but not once you actually dig into it a bit. That is compounded by some poor choices when it comes to corner cutting (I presume) where it looks like a search and replace has been done to swap “show” with “show render id_” – which is fine, I guess. If you never use the word “show” in the game’s dialogue. Oh, what’s that? Characters say “show render id_” on four separate occasions? *sigh*

In this post-apocalyptic world, it looks like every hour of a person’s day is guided by an algorithm, which includes intimate time. So our main character has two hours a week set aside for sex. His chosen partner has additional sex hours, with someone else, although MC himself likes the idea of monogamy, so he doesn’t want to register his interest and go on the waiting list for any other women – because that’s how it’s done, with everyone expected to be sexually available for everyone else (although there’s clearly some sort of element of choice involved).

This is where it feels like it would become stale, because as soon as you start putting such strict rules on it, sex can become more like a chore (this is one of the things couples looks to “spice things up” to avoid!). That definitely feels the case in terms of a game like this, where we only have one sex scene so far and I found it a bit lifeless and lacking in chemistry, despite the two characters apparently being experienced with each other and telling each other how they enjoy spending time together (“I’ll be waiting for our next hour,” “I’ll be waiting too, eagerly.” So hot…)

Oh, and lastly, I really don’t like the name of the game. Some guy in the game thread said that you would only expect futa content if you’re into futa and trans characters (though he used a derogatory term instead). Cue a whole bunch of counterarguments, including mine, as someone who is not at all into futa or trans characters but guessed that it would be a feature of the game – it’s not. People still pop into the thread now and express their disappointment at there not being any futa content in a game with a title like this. To clarify, the dev notes that this is a unique word that combines the words “future” and “erotica”. And they apparently didn’t think of “Futurotica” during their brainstorming process.

This is another of those games that features a lot of common elements but has the potential to rise above the majority of those others. Unfortunately for me, that potential has, by the third release, been squandered. There are just too many things that I’m not a fan of here, and when I put them together against the positives, it’s actually not a pretty picture.

We have a husband and wife who work in the same office, he as part of the IT team, where he spends most of his time spying on the staff (or mostly his wife) on the building’s security cameras. He also, somehow, can hack into the security cameras of the local mall, to watch his wife trying on clothes in a boutique there. He realises he has a fetish for seeing (or hearing about) men flirting with his wife, and they decide to explore this.

I just felt that everything moved too fast and was too easy. They discuss things pretty openly, which is good, but now, pretty much every time the wife mentions her boss or their black colleague, her husband gets a boner and she plays into that and asks if he wants to hear more or if he wants her to push things the next time she sees the men. Meanwhile, he has fantasies and you get to see the men fucking his wife as he imagines it – often portrayed as him watching her on the security cameras, and then his imagination taking over and showing it as if it’s really happening and he’s reacting in aroused shock. I don’t think that’s a good way of doing it, especially as the wife hasn’t actually done anything beyond flirting yet, so you’re kind of seeing the sharing elements way ahead of their actual place in the story.

The graphics mostly look okay, but the game already feels like it’s falling into the AI trap, where it’s using frequent (too frequent, IMO) AI animations. These don’t fit the renders surrounding them, so you get bars to either side and a darkening of the screen when they come up. It just looks poor, in my opinion. They are often used for non-sexual scenes, which is where they feel too frequent, showing facial reactions or little movements that there’s just no need to animate in the first place, and sometimes also showing someone talking, where of course the lip movement can’t and won’t match any dialogue that might (or might not!) be shown on screen at the time.

The other issue I have with the graphics is the subjective one – the girls. I generally found here that I might like the girls’ faces quite a bit, but not so much their bodies. Or at least, their breasts. This is for two specific reasons this time – one, the usual one for me, is that they are generally far too big for my tastes. The other though, is that they all look a bit plasticky (as in the actual material, not necessarily silicone-fake), especially the nipples. They just don’t look close to natural at all to me.

I still don’t know whether this is supposed to be a serious game (as I think it is intended), or a bit of a tongue in cheek one. It certainly works better as the latter, but even then, it doesn’t have enough all round to keep me interested.

I haven't been around my own thread too much lately because I've been so busy that I haven't had time to try out too many new games. I've played a few updates and some of these, if they have been longer and "slow-burn" games, have taken me a lot longer than normal as well. So I wanted to get back here, and because of what day it is, I thought some end of year awards would be a good way to do it. So, I introduce you to The Tony Awards (totally original name and not going to get confused with anything else at all)!

These are (obviousy) just for fun, but the major two caveats I want to list before getting into it are:
1. These are all in my opinion only, so by "Best" you can take it to mean "My Favourite" - it's all subjective, no objectivity here and so no room for argument (though you can, and should, have your own opinions that you are welcome to share).
2. It should also go without saying, but for a game to be eligible for these awards, it must be one that I play - so if there's a huge, massive, obvious winner that I've not even nominated, maybe it's because I haven't played it, or have decided it's not a game for me.

Oh, and yeah, I'll almost certainly have forgotten about a game, girl, or set of scenes, or forgotten that they took place in 2025 and so accidentally discounted them, but there we go...

And now, the categories, nominations (always alphabetical order), and winners of the 2025 Tony Awards! (*long name for disambiguity: The 2025 TonyMurray Awards for Adult Visual Novels).

Best "Small" Game (my judgement re size, but loosely based on perceived fandom and support-platform size)
The nominations are: Elmwood University, Formula Zero, Her Desire, My Husband's Boss, Secrets and Promises

Wow, Tony! It's great to have you back from your Maldives vacation.:HideThePain: I really enjoyed your idea and presentation for the 2025 Tony Awards. The sun and vitamin D clearly did you good. ;)
Just a thought. Maybe you could add a Tony Golden Raspberry Award to your list next year.
My surprises were "Secrets and Promises" and "Mhb".
The biggest disappointments, unfortunately, were "East Block" and "Chasing Sunset."
I wish you a fappy and healthy new year.

I don't mind pointing out things I didn't like in a review, but I'm not a fan of specifically highlighting negatives in a "worst of" sort of way. Besides, it would be unfair, because all the real qualifiers get dropped so quickly they're forgotten before too long!

This is not the first time I have seen Chasing Sunset mentioned as a Disapointment. I'm kind of glad I came to that one late.
Most of the complaints I've seen about Chasing Sunsets (or at least the conclusion of it) revolved around the method of ending up with both Jaye and Mallory. I'll note that I didn't have a problem achieving that ending, so I was golden.

Wasn't it also about the lack of meaningful conclusions with other girls like Bianca or Lisa ?

I didn't really complain and I think the game is great overall but the endings did feel a bit rushed, to be honest

Oh yes, that too. I genuinely forgot about that (somehow).

I just remember people saying how the devs were terrible writers (and worse terms) because of the way the poly ending was handled, while I was sitting back thinking, "that's not how it looks to me!"
