The Cabin – Summer Vacation by CellStudios
This is one of those games that I liked… until I didn’t. It started off looking like a bit of a slow-burn family harem game – or at least, family
fun game – but it took a bit of a turn, which to be fair, the tags do suggest. I didn’t think the slasher elements fit in very well at all though, they felt very out of place, and that’s where my interest really started to wane.
I thought the graphics were pretty good, although looking at them in isolation for my LI cards, I realise that I didn’t really like any of the girls that much. There were a couple of others that had the beginnings of branches opening, but I didn’t see any content for those, and although I made saves for them at the branching points, I never went back to check them out after seeing that there isn’t any content to speak of yet.
It tends to be the way, but in a game that looks to allow harem (though admittedly doesn’t have a tag for it), I don’t like it when choices for one LI cut content with another. Other choices in the game didn’t really seem to do too much – including one set where you explore a bunker with your “mother”, “sister”, and “aunt”, and you choose who to pair up with. Once the scene is done, it returns you to the exact same starting point and gives you the remaining options – so you do all of them and it just ends up being a choice of the order, while losing some of the immersion in doing so.
Some sex scenes then come up out of nowhere. There are two (so far) that feature girls who haven't been seen before or since (well, I think one of them appeared very briefly just one other time) and again they just felt out of place. The ease at which the sex is offered, with these girls you've literally just met minutes before, suggests they are there just for the sake of lewdity - filling a gap and ticking a box while progress with the main girls builds.
Coming into Ep9 the game then forgets some variables, so it has to ask you to set the relationships of one of the main characters, which was originally done with all the others at the start of the game, and it also asks you what happened in one of the sex scenes in Ep8, so it can set a pregnancy flag if applicable. By this point, I’d already decided that I wasn’t going to continue with future releases of the game, but this was a sign that I’d made a good choice, as it suggests to me poor planning, poor coding, or just poor overall workmanship.
