I never knew that was the origin of Japan's red light district. I just learned something today.and in japan kunoichi's used sex/sexual appeal to accomplish their missions of espionage, gather knowledge, gaining trust, and listening in on conversations. which worked quite well to the point where as the need of ninja/kunoichi's died all the kunoichi's used their skills and training to create their own little "red light" corner that ended up blooming and prospering long after they all died to the point where it's around today.
there's more historical examples of how "prostitutes" weren't actually a dishonorable profession but the point is basically as you said "a honored profession" though it's kinda weird how this even got brought up in this thread in the first place
We need to bring these practices into the 21st Century!Hell, even much much before that, in the Temples of the Sumerian Goddess Inanna/Ishtar (who also happened to be worshipped by other Mesopotamian civilizations), worshippers would engage in sacred prostitution as a form of divine worship to the Goddess of Sex, Love and Fertility (she was associated with many other things as well like Beauty and even War too, and had the title of Queen of Heaven).
This is all actually really ancient, as far back as the beginning of written history. Her influence was so great that she would later inspire the cult of many other Goddesses from later religions, one of the most famous being Aphrodite, as an example.
