I understand your point of view. For me it's not my cup of tea, but based on comments I read on Lit-E and Patreon Feedback there are those individuals who line up to consume it. The beauty of being human: we can all have a kink that works for us.

Oh, I'm a firm believer this was either a foreclosure notice or a late payment notice for the house. Which allows Lester to either enter another devil's bargain with the couple or Sarah secretly. Assuming it will be the later, which would give Lester two leverage points - fear of losing the house and another blackmail/humiliation of dan opportunity for the secret.
