I used the program rpgrewriter to extract the text but when I try to put it back in using the same program it is still in japanese, even after trying to change the font using a hex editor.

If it's anything like Translator++ then try looking for a button called "Inject" or something like that which automatically integrates the files into the exe. Like I said though, depending on the translation it can cause errors and bugs.

I inject and it says it cant find any of the events even though the events are there

Well I've never used rpgwriter so I can't really say for sure what your problem would be. You'll probably be better off searching around the site for threads on how to use or how to translate.
