The monsters don't respawn making playing the game normally impossible (don't know why)
However you can go to the Exchange Shop (the one with the wizard rod sign) and sell any potions or equipment you have there.
It'll give you the Exchange Shop Currency instead of normal Gold and with it you can buy a shit-load of level/stat increase consumables.
