REVIEW OF v0.4

So far, so good.

I was never big into his other project due to the immense slow burn it has, but I think StoryAnon strikes a much better balance here in terms of the pacing of the interpersonal relationships between the MC and the love interests. In my opinion, this is some of his best work yet in terms of character writing and development without simultaneously feeling sluggish. Jessica, Yuko, and Mio are particularly good here; Mio is a truly fascinating character, I can’t wait to learn more about her and possibly see that shell continue to break down.

The MC is kind of a dick but that’s clearly the point here. I’m glad that there’s an actual arc happening with his character as well, and I’m interested to see how much the player’s decisions will ultimately matter in terms of shaping him into either a kind-hearted harem owner or a corrupt and depraved one like his father. Perhaps the answer is a bit more gray than that.

Pretty much all the characters stand out from one another and have their own unique quirks. Some definitely work better than others, personal preference will play a factor. But I do think there’s definitely a little something for everyone and that says a lot in itself.

StoryAnon’s renders continue to be the best I’ve ever seen using Koikatsu. I wish more devs on this site understood the importance of lighting/shading. The animations are great as well. Some sound effects would definitely be nice though.

Speaking of sound, the soundtrack is fantastic. Very relaxing music that fits the culture of these characters and their stories well.

The management side of the gameplay doesn’t really do a whole lot for me. It’s there. It exists. It’s fine. But nothing groundbreaking by any means.

For a first demo, there’s honestly a lot of content here to enjoy, probably 4-6 hours worth depending on your pace. And a solid amount of it is lewd scenes which is quite refreshing.

I’m interested to see where this project goes and where StoryAnon decides to take this intriguing cast of characters. If this good pacing keeps up, it could very easily turn into a 5 star game for me. Even as is, I recommend giving this one a go.

Tropicali is a very interesting game, didn't expect to be a management but i was pleasantly surprised with it all.
The characters are interesting as hell and the game has some really funny moments together with another extremely fun sound track.

I greatly enjoyed Tropicali. I love VN's and I also love strategy games, so this was a perfect blend. All of the girls are beautiful and also have very distinct personalities and backstories which is always appreciated. The game will not only turn you on, but you will also be laughing out loud. The animations are beautiful and plentiful. The dialogue is well written and the minigame is actually very fun and entertaining. Overall, I highly recommend this one.

Review For Tropicali V0.4 Demo
After finishing the demo,i can tell you this is a 10/10 game! Kept me engaged from the start to the end of the demo.
1.The Main Girls
The Love Interests are all unique and some of the best female models I have ever seen,for now Mio and Yoko are my favourite girls so far and im looking forward forward on seeing where all the girls stories go.
2.The Main Character
The Main character is one of the best I've played on this site,even better than the dev's previous game's protagonist. At the beginning of this game you choose 1 of 3 backgrounds for him(Jock,Academic or Criminal),me personally i chose the criminal background,but no matter which you choose it still somehow fits his character which is something the dev handles pretty well. He can be an asshole at times but he does care about the people around him and is not afraid to voice his thoughts and is pretty funny which i find alot of other games on here lacks. All in all he fits the role of a protagonist on a tropical island perfectly.
3.The Main Story
The game's plot mainly focuses on the main character managing his resort that he inherited from his late father, and in the process taking over the island as requested by his sexy *consultant*,so far the plot is pretty simple and easy to digest,it leads to a relaxing atmosphere which centres around the main character having fun times with his girls and just enjoying life while making money,and as the story goes on i can see some pretty interesting places the game can go,but that's for the dev to handle so we can only hope the story gets more interesting in the future.
4.The Sex Scenes
Arguably one of the most important things in a porn game(obviously),this game delivers the scenes pretty well and the animations are fluid,I even tested it out on a pretty meh computer and i rarely got any lag unless you try to run this on a potato pc. Also considering that this was made with Koikatsu the dev did an amazing job with the custom animations instead of using the standard ones Koikatsu provides,hell its so good i thought this was made with unity or unreal engine so if that doesnt convince you to play the game then i dont know what will.
5.Final Thoughts
The game is a fun experience all the way through,it is not a serious game,it has fun management aspects that isn't grindy,the ui is intuitive and its something that is meant to just have fun with,do i recommend this game??? Hell yeah,otherwise i wouldn't have made this long ass review detailing all the things i liked about it,hopefully the game continues to be amazing and i cant wait for the final product. 100/10 must play!!!

StoryAnon does it again, this time in a more freeform game. Tropicali showcases more excellent Koikatsu work, catchy music selection (a little too catchy with some tracks), and that ability to turn the most absurd premise into something wonderful.

The management aspects are well designed. Complex enough to feel like you're doing something, but simple enough that you're not distracted by them.

The girls feature a wide range of personalities, ensuring there's someone for everyone to love (but we all know Yoko is the best). I'll leave you to discover them on your own.

Another banger from Story Anon.

In short: Good story, laugh out loud moments, (actually fun) management, big variety of LI's.

Story/Humor: Knowing and being a fan of the author's work im not surprised this has more story than just "enough to justify a management game". It's clear that reading (and not just skipping) is worth it here, and i found myself laughing out loud, which is pretty rare for me in WEGs

Management: Initially i was skeptical i'd be into this, and thought the management part will be annoying, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The balance is really good, if you put just a bit of thought into what you're doing you won't have a game over, but if you like to min max there are several ways to do so, kind of like making the perfect build in an Action-RPG

Lewdness: A tier above all other KK games that i know, this is simply put, sexy, not just hot, which i believe isn't the easiest thing to capture in this style. A metric ton of sexy animations, and there is a huge variety of Li's, pretty much at least one for every preference, or if you're me, all of them.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend giving this a go and enjoy.

The game looks GREAT. It's got 3d, anime style models and solid sex animations.

The UI and music are also good and contribute to the harem-anime-tropical island-dictator-but-goofy-vibe that's going on.

The love interests look great and have interesting look and style that makes them stand out compared to other 3d anime AVNs you see on here. The MC also has no eyes, so it's really going for that hentai anime feel and look.

There is a minigame about managing the island resort, which is central since it's how you progress through the game to unlock the story and scenes with the various ladies you meet in the game.

The story is a little off the rails and you can't take it too seriously because of the conflicting writing elements.

• It's inspired by history and real locations, but also has anime tropes and writing that injects alot of meta, 4th wall breaking to it. There are hints of seriousness, perhaps real consequences to the decisions you make in game, but any serious tone is undercut by the it's own writing.
• For example, the MC has a half-sister and there's a complex history, regret, attraction mixed in the relationship. But instead of seeing the words that would indicate there's incest, the dev has [REDACTED] written over words like sister or daughter. You can also recruit a sentient tank and chicken to help run your resort...so it's like eh, who cares about the sister or anyone else on the roster?

While it's a demo, there is ALOT of content to play through and see. However the dev has geared this towards being a shorter game, so don't expect an epic saga.

I'm just impressed by the dev and how they've been able to create a side project concurrently with their main project and create this much content and output. Seriously impressed, since most devs that try this are terrible at it.

Other observations:

• I think this game was inspired by Tropico: post colonial tropical island location, with a dark goofy overtone where it's run by a power hungry man.
• The dev has incorporated Latin American culture, "Mulatto", the Spanish language and real life history of places like Guam and Hawaii...but also injected it with alot of anime tropes and hints of the supernatural, so the game never really feels serious.
• Sex scenes are missing a little something...I'd recommend putting in more vocals/sound effects during sex scenes to enhance them. Or the ability to alternate between angles or something.

This is a demo? This is really long for just a mere demo.

Drawn art, which always looks awesome to me. Diverse characters that have their own personalities and look different. Each character has their own set of character events, and there's a main story holding everything together. The game has a lot of different emotions at different times but is primarily comedic, I had a good laugh plenty of times.

At its heart it's a combination harem event game and island management. You buy up properties and assign a manager and consultant. There is a happiness system, stat categories, level ups for characters and locations. The game has a checkpoint based debt system, you have to hit your targets but it's easy enough to figure out the system and then hit them. The first payment might be a bit tight but after that you'd have to refuse to make money or pay it to fail.

And finally the music. The music is really catchy. I especially like what sounds like "Guantanemera" which I have no idea if I got that right. Game doesn't have a sound test/music list but I wish it did. As I type this review I've finished the content in the game with about 6 days left for the final payment (there is no final payment scene yet) just listening to it on loop.

In terms of tags there is pregnancy but you have the choice for it, I chose not to. The game does have some femdom but it's not really a significant part of it, pretty much just one char having authority story wise. The game seems fairly clear there won't be any NTR, and I am aligned with the dev in that I don't really care what those terms actually are or aren't. It's not in the game.

Great character designs. Good sex scenes with good animations. Not as heavily plot driven as the other game Story Anon does so it's a lot easier to digest and get into. Worth experiencing even though it's just a demo. Hopefully the rest comes out soon.

Also it's nice to see good creators collaborate with each other.

Review for the 1.0 release

Wait… an actually complete game? With actually hot h-scenes? A non-paint-by-numbers story? And actually engaging gameplay that doesn’t make me want to put my fist through the monitor and activate console commands? On this site… is that Legal?

Pros, aka what’ll probably make it good for you too:

• Character models - These are probably the best-looking Koikatsu models I’ve seen in an AVN. Koi is always iffy for me since the default models seem designed to get people on an FBI watch list. But the work has clearly been put into these ones and there’s some really good variety in body shapes and tones.
  
  
• Animations – Again probably the best Koi ones I’ve seen, although that’s almost by default because these are custom and not the pre-built pool-cue sharpening handjob. There’s a good amount of variety and a sensible amount for each H-scene.
  
  
• Humour - This is always a matter of taste, but I liked the ratio and direction in this. It felt very tongue-in-cheek, and the game was clearly poking fun at its own genre. You’re really given the option to be a jackass fucking around, a good selfish evil if you so wish. ALSO, you can employee a BOB SEMPLE TANK, my patriotic pride is swelling NZ/10
  
  
• Gameplay – I am shocked that I’m enjoying the gameplay of a business management game on here. So often are these things so broken, illogical, and obtuse that I stopped hoping. The UI being as intuitive as it is does wonders here and I can’t praise it enough. I’d like a try hard mode with a bit more difficulty but I’m guessing that’s a niche desire. It really scratched the spreadsheet part of my brain the same way EU4 does. Also fyi if it’s not your thing, there’s a “coomer mode” choice at the start that makes it impossible to lose.
  
  
• Story – Initially it felt like a standard AVN-Tropico setup, but it goes in some unexpected directions. You can tell the devs taken some good drugs in their life to be writing like this. The “Harem” ending was unexpected, something that I’ve never seen a dev have the balls to do in an AVN before and I loved it. Really sets up a potential sequel nicely in a unique way.

Cons, aka things I’m undecided on:

• Event-Based Pacing – Event based games aren’t usually that great. I typically find the pacing sucks and they can’t carry a clear narrative. Tropicali does well in this area provided you rotate the girls events. The Games happiness mechanic actually encourages this which is smart. There are some small continuity errors you really try and create them between the events, but nothing to really detract from the game.

Overall:
9.2/10 - I’m left waiting eagerly for the sequel. Currently 14-20 hours of content if you complete everything. 31 H-Scenes in the Gallery if you just want to skip to that stuff.

It's early so there is not a ton of content (certainly not compared to the author's other game), but what we have is fun.

Pros:

• The MC is a "likable rogue", a jackass but not an asshole. Unlike a lot of porn MCs, he actually makes the scenes he is in better.
• Really good-looking girls. Lots of different body types and anime archetypes. It's Koikatsu, but it's pretty good Koikatsu.
• Game mechanics have some actual thought put into them. Like, it's not grinding for the sake of grinding. If you hate business sims you probably won't be thrilled with the management portion, but most people will dig it.
• Dialogue is snappy and pretty funny
• Animations are pretty fucking good

Cons:

• The plot is there and it's not terrible, but the game is still an early demo so it's far from fleshed out. If you hate playing incomplete games you'd best wait a bit.
• The game mechanics need a little fine-tuning, particularly in the area of difficulty. Right now it's not hard enough to be challenging, but a little more work than it should be if you just want to play it like a VN.
• The best-looking girl has some tragically nasty tanlines

So: Some strong pros, and the cons are stuff that will probably shake out as the game matures (except that last one, which is just a personal taste issue). Good fucking game for a first release.

Definitely worth a look. If you like Story Anon's art in Out of Touch but don't like the heavy story or the goofy MC or the female protag switchoffs, this game will make you happy.

What else can be said about Tropicali except that it's an incredible piece of work with a lot of heart to it. There is so much to say that already is oozing out of every part of this game that just screams "quality, dedication, and love".

Music: Slamming. Everything flows so well and captures the moments on point.

Character design: Wonderful! No chikas, everyone has a clear silhouette that identifies them, and there is a solid amount of them that gives a lot of good eye candy. And then Fernando is also a great design and blows most Koi male models out of the water!

Cinemetography: There is a clear understanding of how to use the scenes and colors to the fullest here. Nothing is wasted and everything is spot on. Of course, clipping sometimes is around but very excusable for the sheer quality of everything else.

Animations: Solid and absolutely wonderful! They did what they needed to do and more! The only complaint would be asking for more, hah!

Story: Solid as well and does exactly enough for what's needed for the story. Comedic, dramatic, bit of intrigue, and just enough to get the pacing going. It knows what it is and doesn't shy away from it.

All-in-all, I highly suggest this game to anyone who enjoys a simple management game and sexy beach going ladies :V

A sandbox game with easy to reach choices and easy to understand mechanics that will make your playthrough pretty fun and inviting to replay, as the management mini-game invites you to have fun with the choices of who to put where and with whom. And to see how much money you can get by the end of it because big number makes monkey brain happy.

Overall a really enjoyable game in which you can feel the soul of Story Anon come into place, with each of his helpers none the less fiery about bringing this idea to life.
