Hello,
I'm currently reading up on how to work Twine and I was wondering what the difference between the story formats are for a pornographic game. I saw the description of the three but I was wondering what the standard is that most people use and why. I noticed a lot of Sugarcube in my searching on here, is their a specific reason for that or just that it's familiar to people at this point/has the most resources premade?

Mainly, am I shooting myself in the foot in the long run focusing on Harlowe? I don't have any experience with Twine 1 or js/css so it seems like the simplest from what I can see.

now I don't really explore twine, except one time like a year or two ago, and I think the main reason people use sugarcube is that a lot of other tools or plugs in's work with it in mind, to help make or automate some game systems. but that is about all I found out before I decided twine was too convoluted for me.

Is there something simpler to use then? I'm pretty much starting from scratch as far as programming knowledge goes. Twine seems decently simple, but I really don't have much frame of reference. I particularly liked how it has a bit of a visual side to it.

I know a lot of people use Ren'Py, and it has the benefit of being able to run python code so that you can further customize the game to something more advance, but as it stand I have seen some great text adventure games (with images) done in non-twine systems. Trap quest uses Inform to make it, and Window Git to act as an interpreter engine to play the game (renpy and twine are also types of interpreter systems). I myself tend to make sloppy prototypes in unity because I can just quickly uses buttons to act as everything, text boxes, characters, etc. and making buttons do everything, but then you have to set everything up yourself, ie make a nice UI, which twine and renpy already do for you.

Rather than repeat what others have said, see the " " thread for a lot of details on why SugarCube is generally recommended.

Thank you, I'll look into these others too before I make any kind of decision at this point. I don't really have any real experience with any kind of coding at this point, so I'm looking at it as a perfect opportunity to learn a bit about one.

Thank you very much, this is pretty much exactly the info I was looking for. I'm going to look into some stuff mentioned above, but if I stick with twine I'll most likely be going with sugarcube at this point.

Thank you both very much for your time and information you've given me!
