VN - Ren'Py - Unleashed [v0.7.0b] [CarbonBlue]

Writing is the most important element for me in AVN's. Used to be visuals when I was a new to the genre but now more is needed to keep me engaged. Great renders/animations alone equal a hollow product, pretty on the outside but offering nothing of substance.

This game does not fall into that category. It has some of the best writing I've come across, there isn't much of a story yet but each character feels so alive and engaging. Just hanging around them is plenty of fun. Such natural dialogue takes considerable skill so the dev deserves serious praise.

The wit is next-level. Honestly it's one of the few games that had me laughing out loud multiple times.

As for the visuals, the renders are pretty good, the animations pretty average. Each character design is really attractive though and that's far more important. Crystal clear renders don't mean shit if the heroines are ugly as sin.

Overall I had a blast and eagerly anticipate playing more in the future.

As of 0.5v3, the short answer is no. Go away.

I remember playing this game years ago. I remember liking what I saw, but also shelving it because of the lack of content -but of course, it was still new then, so no complaints.

But today, on the 30th of June, 2022, I found it again! Cool huh?
No.
I started from scratch and finished the game in 20 minutes at most. If I knew it'd be relevant, I'd have timed it. And no, I wasn't in a hurry, nor am I a fast reader.

Again, it's been developed for 3 years, and there's at most a grand total of 20 minutes of content to show for it, and 2 (yes, two) sex scenes, neither particularly long or hot. That's it.
That's like, what? 7 seconds of content per week on average? 1 sex scene per 1.5 years?
At this rate, both the developer and the players will die of old age before the game could be finished.

Story follows you, some college freshman dude who moves in with your father's friend (a mother with 2 daughters +1 friend who hangs around) because your dorm burned down or something. That's the extent of the story so far. I can't even bring myself to call it generic because of how little story there still is.

Visuals are decent: Renders are good and quite numerous, models look great, though the animations are fairly poor, not that animations (or even renders) are necessary for a good game, but nor does it serve as a substitute for the lack of content. Scenes (those two we have) are also disappointingly short and not particularly hot.

Characters aren't developed, but of course, you cannot develop 4 or more characters in ~20 minutes. First impressions are good, they seem to be an interesting bunch, but introductions and small snippets of their lives/personalities are the extent of what we have.

Sounds, that is music and sound effects aren't common, but adequate.


Overall, it could be a pretty good game if it was developed in a timely fashion, but it isn't.
If you want to play it anyway, then go for it, sure.
But even if you enjoy it...no, ESPECIALLY if you enjoy it and get hooked, you'll be craving more. But there won't be but scraps over many months that won't satisfy.
I'd suggest you not to do that to yourself.

The Good:
- The girls looks sexy, really hard to decide
- for me one of the funniest games out there
- even it's a parody of AVNs the story is nice, also the backgroud of some characters
(Angel sitting alone at night at the end of 0.5v3 nearly broke my heart)

Neutral:
- Some ok animations, seems to getting better
- not that much lewd scenes so far
- the music is ok, some sound effects

The Bad:
- well, the game amount after 3 years, also update cycles are getting worse.
(don't need to be a monthly update of course, but lately almost only one per year with rather small content)



Conclusion:
I love the game. It's funny, the girls are hot and the story is not bad
Really hope it gets more often updated in the future

This game is, sadly, not enjoyable to play. It's essentially a slideshow with a mute MC and it feels so disjointed because of it. I really dig what's going on here, but the way the story progresses is weird and the way the renders are presented is awkward and sometimes actually disorienting. For instance, most VN's have a couple different renders of the same angle of one person talking so it feels like the conversation is actually happening (hand movements, facial expressions, etc.) It adds to the realism.
However, in this VN, some conversations have multiple different shots that change with almost every click and the conversations do not last long. This makes all dialogue lead immediately into the next scene with no transitions in between. There is no thinking about what just happened because you snapped through a scene and now you've snapped into the next scene with a different character in a different location and then you've snapped into a different place with two characters and now you've snapped to bed.
See how this can be disorienting?

It's really a shame because there is something genuinely really good here. The characters are lovable, the renders are passable, the humor is good, and there is clearly either a great story building in the background or the illusion of choice itself is one ongoing joke. There just needs to be more dialogue from the MC and improvements need to be made in both scene writing and transitions. I hope Unleashed can reach its full potential and get the praise it deserves.

The renders are great, the story interesting, good sense of humor, almost non-existent sex scenes, just one sex scene and a blowjob, some tease moments trying to compensate the lack of sexual interaction.
You would say "the game has a few sex scenes because is more focused in the story, in build up the characters and more." But you are wrong.
The last time I played this was a couple of years ago and the story almost didn't progressed since then.
Looks like the MC is mute, a lot of scenes he don't talk, the girls ask him or tell something to him and they keep talking like if the MC responded when he didn't.
Other "problem" would be (like in any other VN) that every girl is in love with the MC when they meet him, even the mom, and it doesn't matter if he is mute and only talks to say that they are pretty.
Maybe in a couple of years we could see more of the story and more sex.

I've been downloading several releases now, and my feeling is that this game doesn't deliver
The story seems intersting at first but doesn't go anywhere.
Renders are quite boring... You don't even feel blue balled by the lack of sex scenes...
May be i'll come back in a year or two to see if to went better

There's a lot to love about this game, very few things that bother me. Firstly, as a rarity in the genre lately, the dialogue is of a high quality. I love the weight of what characters say, the humor excellent as well. Truly enjoyable, making me chuckle as much as it turns me on. The choices feel real, like they have impact and consequence.

The models are nice to look at, few things that seem out of place. They are quite similar (they're related after all), but the personality differences feel real enough.

Only gripe? I wish there were faster updates. Truely enjoying this so far (v.0.5v3), looking forward for more.

It's flawed. I wish there was more sex. The animations aren't pro. The story is all over.... But I break out laughing often, snickering frequently, and all that's pretty great too. There is a humanity here that I adore. Love it.

I would summarize this game as potential without follow-through.

Some examples:

1. There seems to be the potential for a "Doki Doki Literature Club"-like subversion with "glitches" that force certain paths, but it happens very rarely (twice for me), and the rest plays out like a typical VN.

2. One character plays a "prank" where she appears to try to cut off the MC's dick with a knife while he sleeps, and he reacts to discovering this by getting aroused, and he seems to have a danger fetish. Nothing happens later that seems to follow up on that theme, and her actions later are just more typical harassment of the MC without the MC having a meaningful response.

3. One character suddenly seems to try to blackmail the MC into sleeping with her (he already is), just to have her soon delete the blackmail materials of her own accord.

Ultimately, it's not a bad game, just not a memorable one.

Holy cow, this was... well very, very good, the characters, the models, the scenes wow, i don't know if some other game trapped me in so short time, but i guess im still to early to talk...
Good: Everything in this game, keep the gooddamn work!
Cons: I mean... um, maybe the transitions? Yo go from 1 to 10 in nothing but you keep the game fluid and catching, pretty good.

Just finished playing through this (v5.2) and instantly subscribed to the highest tier on Patreon. By far the best written and visualized VN I've played so far.

(1) There are *actual* characters in the story. If Carbon Blue isn't a professional writer, they could be. Differentiated characterization is something few VN writers appear able to do consistently. And Carbon Blue's characters act and talk in age appropriate ways.

(2) It has *actual* artistry. I don't mean fancy renders. I mean the way they are thought out. There is a scene with lightening that is pure brilliance and emotional for me -- it's depth is worthy of a literary analysis. Try the game out at least until you get through this scene and I think you'll be hooked.

(3) It successfully balances actual humor and eroticism. Hard to do at all; hard to do this well.

(4) The story is still early, but there are enough clues to think this will take an epic turn at some point soon. Can't wait to see how the storyline develops.

The dialogue is alive. Not there to waste your time with useless predictable banter. Characters have --- character. There is real sense of mystery here and clever subversion of common tropes of this genre.

I don't really mind the lack of consequences (making huge branching storyline is a trap) if the content quality does not worsen. We don't really need another huge branching storyline snoozefest with sub par dialogue and uninspired characters/plots.

This has probably become my top VN now, even if there is not a great deal of content.

The dev is clearly talented as the renders, characters and dialogue are great. One example that comes to mind is the scene where Angel visits the MC in bed during a storm...the poster illuminated in the dark...the lightning flashes as they make love...very creative.

Characters are great! Shannon is a complete mental case! but her dialogue is so funny...it makes her cuter. Angel, my fave, is hot and has embraced the sexy goth look. She comes across slutty buf is really just an insecure girl damaged by fucktard parents.
Maeve...is hard to understand I find, distant at times...warm other times...she is deep that's for sure.
The mom is just a sexually frustrated milf looking to jump our MC's bones while warning him off other females...oh please.

This VN has so much potential! I hope the dev recovers well, he is very talented. I can't wait for the next update.

Despite the pace being kind of... eclectic, I absolutely adore everything about this game, especially the characters and the humour. Fuck me sideways, this is one of the funniest VN I've ever read, and that's a tall bar for me.

Of course, it also helps that the girls are all incredibly beautiful in their own unique ways and that the "cinematography" (if that makes sense) is also really good.

In conclusion, I'd give it 6 starts if I could, please more.

TBH I feel like it's a bit too early to rate this(v0.5v2) cuz plot wise much hasn't been covered yet still since I finished it might as well give 1.

Story-Pretty entertaining actually as there is never a dull moment with this crazy & dysfunctional family of females

Characters - The horny MILF mom who has her eyes on MCs cock, her even more crazier daughters & 1 is definitely a sociopath. The only sane anchor is Angel(just like her name) though she does have her wild moments. Models are pretty & animations do get better in updates.

Sex-Nothing much (probably 3 a bj, fingering & a humping scene where u get cockblocked within 3 seconds) but story & the batshit crazy cast alone makes up for it

Overall I did have a fun ride & yes it has huge potential so definitely keep an eye on this 1

Story is pretty cool so far even if it's a bit basic. The humor is so on point, the dialogue is just crazy but funny as hell..Shannon is a complete nutter!

Did I mention how hot the girls are? yeeeeah... Angel is hands down my type...love her sexy goth/harley quinn look and her body is just sexy as fuck. Angel can also be sweet at times and her obvious conflict with entering a relationship with MC makes her even more enticing. Olivia, the Mom, is hot as hell and a real Cougar that outshines her daughters, she's desperate for MC's attention. Maeve, the oldest daughter is a mystery but also damn sexy, very intriguing. Shannon the youngest daughter, I just find her annoying. She's just too deranged for my taste. Least attractive as well.

Overall, this is seriously great stuff! funny and sexy as hell. Can't wait for more.

something is wrong. there are a lot of missing scripts and errors occur in the beginning of the gameplay. i hope this doesn't continue in the next update.
other than that, i like the game. the girls are kind of cool. i like mama the most though very hot and she must be very skillful lol

Amazing game in every way possible. The artwork is superb, the characters are entirely believeable and very well fleshed out and the dialouge and events have an absolute knife edge sen se of humour. Pure genius!
