VN - Ren'Py - Unleashed [v0.7.0b] [CarbonBlue]

Settled on a 3 after debating whether or not it should be 4 stars as I previously had a higher impression of this game.

The quality is dwindling. After the most recent update, I can't even remember if the mc ever talked, or if it was my imagination filling in the gaps in those earlier chapters. Either way, it's very lazy to not at least show the mc's thoughts either from a first or third person perspective.

Also early on, switching the camera angle after every render was cool, particularly because it matched Shannon's eccentric personality, but that doesn't mean you should make renders like that all the time. Animations are subpar and I find the mc utterly soulless. Shannon and Maeve make the game worth playing but I'm grasping for straws after that.

Edits regarding the release of v5.2:

Almost no story progression. No interesting content, no sexual content, no upgrades to models or animations.

It has to drop to a 1/5 at this point. It's taken far too long for far too little. A shame since it was a good idea.

I'm basing this review on 0.5v1. I played 0.3 as a whole then waited for .4 and .5.

Overall, it's a good idea. I like the idea of a meta story that pokes fun at the genre and leaves you wondering what exactly is going on. It's a great idea and the dev is working hard to make this vision come to life.

My issue is that the characters are a little... bland and predictable, even given the story subject.

Shannon is a cocky teen type. Angel is the misunderstood rebel. Olivia is the single mom who's horny for her friend's son. Maeve is... just strange. It's very hard to place her and understand her at all because she behaves according to the rules of this world, which we don't know yet.

The renders are... alright. The models are based on older versions and it shows in the textures and resolution. Of the few animations, they're jerky, but they are there and that's good at the very least.

It's not a bad game, but since the original release was in July 2019 and it's now almost November 2020 and we're only at 0.5 with a half-released version, I'm finding it very hard to keep interest in the premise given that the development time is so long for so little. The dev could use a partner or a small team to assist on speeding up development.

I'm grateful for this site, as while this is an interesting premise, I wouldn't be willing to support the dev given the sporadic releases.

Overall I have to rate this a 2/5 based on the above points.

Great script and beatiful images. Several models and the story seems nice so far. As many others, loved the red haired girl and her dialogs. Shes very well described. Keep up the good work and I hope this story grows big

I love this game. The graphics are well done, the characters are great, the story is good, in general the atmosphere in the game is well done. And the girls (Shannon - but also Maeve/Angel/Olivia) are just gorgeous. Also for me way above average: the humor. Just the notebook scene at school from the last update - hilarious!

So there is no room for improvement? Of course there are a few little things here and there, but what's really perfect...the latest update cycles were a bit long and the ammount of the last update was rather small. Also the latest added animation has some flaws.

Have been watching this story/game for some time. The graphics are nice, and the characters are amusing. Still lacking in some respects, animations for one. And actual considerable content for another, that is what makes or breaks a game. If the Dev puts out enough content to attract players, I know it takes time to get things done, Really though little bit's at a time ticks players off. Visually this game does a great job, content wise it does not. Hopefully future updates will have more to it.

This game is by far my favorite game on F95. The renders are gorgeous, the writing is witty and engaging. CarbonBlue covers all of the tropes and makes fun of most of them yet to say this is just a comedy making fun of video game tropes is selling this game way short. The story grabs you and won't let you go. It demands more than one playthrough because all of the characters are so well drawn and fleshed out. Play this game!

Decided to give my review on this. 5 stars should cover it. Although, since the dev actually has a spine, I would've given this 6 stars. But, I can't. Fucking rating system.

Game is well written. Not really a fan of all the girls in this. Angel and Maeve are the best. My opinion.

The game started out really well, but the last two updates have been really weird. The MC doesn't have any dialog written for some reason, and half the renders don't have any text at all. On top of this, the one-sided conversations take weird turns and it just seems like there's a lot of dialog missing.

The choices don't matter in the last few updates, either. The routes all blend together, so the characters act the same towards you no matter what you choose.

There's a really great sex scene in one of the first updates, but for some reason, the developer decided to do away with all dialog during those scenes, making them feel empty and unfinished.

Overall, I had high hopes for this game. The renders are really good. What little dialog there is is well written and funny at times. The characters are all very different from one another. Hopefully the developer will go back to focusing on these things, as I believe they are what made this game so popular in the first few updates.

This is a 3/5 for me. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could though.

The plot and writing is pretty straightforward which is not a bad thing of course but it felt too rushed to me.
I'm one of those people who like buildups. So if you're not like me then this game might be a 5/5 for you.

I just wish the characters would start getting horny for the MC after a buildup and not a day or two after they see him.

MC doesn't have a lot of personality yet but I hope to see more in the future.

I like the way Shannon is written but i'm not a fan of the usual 'friend who has trouble at home with step father and mother who neglects her'.

Some renders do have very obvious clipping that could have easily been fixed with a few adjustments it kind of felt like a rushed version.

Overall however I feel like the dev can turn this into an interesting story with time.

This game is definitely an up-and-comer. The MC is likeable and the models look decent as well. the skin however make all the characters look either plastic or undead. The writing is a marvel is the reason why I am recomending this game.I will upgrade my review once it gets more content.

Time to Complete: 1 hour. I timed 1 hour and 15 minutes on my playthrough.

TL;DR: It takes a bit of time to get a hang of, but it's a unique game with it's own style.

Note: I initially took this game as a 3/5 due to it's lack of pacing and weak story, but it's growing on me so a 4/5 seems more fitting.

[~] Story: This game is not a story game and as such, I'm not going to be harsh about it. Even were this game a story game, it being no longer than an hour long makes reviewing the story very difficult regardless. I'd argue the game has no more story than is absolutely necessary.

[*] Pacing: This game either has no pacing or a very fast pace. There are more renders than there are lines of dialogue and things happen in a constant stream with no pause. It takes some getting used to, but it did manage to grow on me after a bit.

[3.5/5] Renders: The renders are very hit or miss, ranging from good to below average depending on the scene, but do get a lot better towards the end of the game, so it's clear the dev is learning as he goes. Some frames have post work such as depth of field while others do not. If you can make it past the early parts of the game, the renders aren't all that bad.

[+2/5] Music: I muted this game because while this game does have music, it doesn't always have it. I'm also not a fan of the music choice, but that is not something to hold against the game.

[*] Style: This game has it's own style. I didn't initially enjoy it, but the more I play, the more I find that I don't find it all that bad. The game does a very good job at what says in the overview - "play[ing] around with your expectations." Through my playthrough, I was quite loudly talking to myself, asking "what the fuck?" at how some of the game's choices.

First of, CarbonBlue this is a substantially quality product you are making here,and so far you deserve every accolade you get either here or on patron(or any other site for that matter).Now to elaborate on above mentioned recommendation:

CHARACTERS

-On the first glance you have all the stereotypes regarding main girls,but as the game progresses I am absolutely sure carbon will make them...hm what is the word i am seeking....branch out(?) (he is on the good track regarding that already,as you people will see once you play the game).Cant leave this part out:Shannon is the BEST character currently in game and I cant wait to see how that path will turn out).

Dialogue:

Playful,sometimes dark and 100% funny when the jokes start dropping. 1 gazilion out of ten keep up the good work.

Story:

Is obviously under development ,and I have a feeling it will take us on a quite a ride.Something is rotten,we will see what exactly.

Renders,animations and other trivia:I like it,but everyone has their taste...personally i care more about the dialogue and well crafted story(yes im aware im writing this words on F95ZONE,but everyone with a tad of patience and "imagination" can make a porno vn with a "rich" storyline(hello madam,I hear your pipes are plugged,im sure i can land a hand wink wink ).Magnificent vn games are like fine wine....just take your sweet time carbon.

ps-I feel bad on leeching on such great games as BaDIK,COBD,WTHI(Being a DIK,City of Broken Dreamers and Where the Heart is) and this for now exceptional work,hopefully i will get a chance for a better job in my shitty country to be able to support these people in making their little slices of heaven.

I haven't noticed this game untill today, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The plot is fun and not overly complicated. Conversations are nicely written and get to the point. The pacing is great (you don't blow your load too soon, but there is no blueballing). Yeah, I didn't pull my dick out during playing, but somehow it didn't matter. I'd rather have fun reading the dialogue that is actually fun, makes sense, and is witty, than skipping it to get to some fap material. Weird, huh?

There are some games that have top notch renders, and the animations are amazing, and there is plenty of super hot "best girl" characters, but a lot of dialogue there feel like filler or it takes too long to get to the point. Dialogue here was engaging, believable and without unnecessary bullshit. I got the feeling that most interactions fit into the overall picture. Nothing felt like filler to me. And the best thing here is, that even though this game uses some very common stereotypes, it still manages to have it's very own personality.

Yeah, the MC's model could be better, have better skin textures, look more alive (he looks like an undead), but it's not that bad, so no starst down for that.

Only thing I disliked was Shirleen's hairstyle. She is too young for that kind of hairstyle. She was a kid at the time this was a typical trashy housewife hairstyle.

All characters are beautiful. Especially Shannon.
Shannon is my second favorite girl with freckles in all games.
My most favority femal is oliva. Not because she is a milf or she is initiative . Because she rises two daughter very good alonely. A great woman!

Really liked it!

There isn't much to see in terms of porn (one sex-scene and a single blowjob) but I genuinely enjoyed the humor. That Background conversation in the breakfast-scene on the first morning? Had to chuckle.

And I really like the visuals. Even if quite a few characters seem to be unaltered asset-store resources, they fit in with the rest.

This game is amazing! The introduction where two girls ironically insulting each other really kick-started my journey to read between the lines of the two humorous girls (Shannon and Angel).

In my opinion, there are two best characters; Maeve for the 'oh-so-typical-stereotype-ish' girl and Shannon, the best girl for character development and her lines.

I think it is possible to just play this game to see her reactions, comments and chit-chat between Angel and MC and it would be astonishing!

Animations - 5*
While the animation scenes are still low and the thunder scene was too unique, I think that it will improve in future updates..

Story - 5*
This type of story cannot go wrong; I think it needs a 5* for the spicy dialogue with Shannon and her character within the game.

Latest review: so far almost a year is passed since the last review but there is a huge delay in update i guess last time i wrote this for episode 4 but the update time took a long dip , so anyone seeing this should be prepared for a good game with a huge update time dropping from 5 to 2 unitil episode 6 . Will again turn to 5 when the updates are available.
Previous review:All renders are pretty neat been following the game since episode 1 . Time between updates is generic 1-2 month i guess, the story is based on college lifestyle and is so far intriguing. A lot of comic moment occur in the game hence worth a laugh. Waiting for episode 5 , will update the review with time to time.

This game is very good for a VN. The characters are more interesting, and the frequent choices in the game help to keep you engaged. So far there's only a few scenes, but it's got a lot of potential.

There's a few choices that result in a static screen, and being forced to do one thing or another, but It'll probably be fixed at some point.

A few things I'm personally not a fan of, but overall a good game, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Interesting Story so far, crazy and funny characters and I fucking love maeve! Okay shannon and Angel are awesome too, I love their humor. But Maeve! I wonder if that werewolf has furr between her legs too...never mind. Great job so far, even the renders look pretty good. can´t wait for future updates. Keep it up man, you rock!
