Updating games

Hey, Ive got a quick question which has probably been answered a lot of times but I can't seem to find a thread about it.
The question is, how do I update games? Ive tried simply dropping the save files in the new game but it shows an error.
And I dont know if there is an universal way of updating but I most of the times play games on renpy.

You don't, almost always you just play the newer version. A update patch is pretty rare as it's extra work that could go in the next update instead.

Ren'Py games should usually find their second hidden save folder automatically, but you should be able to move the games save folder over too. As long as the games had no code changes.
