is varbrowser safe? it's saying download at your own risk
I use it for years. Its safe. All plugins that are external do vam, like this one, have this warning. Basically is the way of the hub saying they are not responsible if it causes problems for you.

Sadly I use all of them already. But maybe this helps you make the list more complete:
To add to the list of "must have" scene plugins:

CheesyFX CheesyPluginSuit - pretty neat to auto load your fav person plugins (like the ones from cheesy).
FieldOfViewController - Allows you to automatically load your desired FoV instead of having to manually do it each startup.
MCMApplyer (Ashu has a scene plugin unlike the original which is per person) - fixes a lot of looks which are ports from DAZ to have proper facial animations (eyes and mouth especially). Basically adds morph controlled morph support and fixes a TON of looks (many anime looks ports of DAZ looks for example and will be fixed by this)

Things which are not scene plugins but very useful:

Morph Merger (slice up a look you like into a head morph and a body morph, great to mix and match - in theory you could split off any parts by knowing the IDs in the script file issue is I have no idea which number strings refer to which bones and vertices of the body and there are literally hundreds of them hence I only ever got to remove some hands I didn't like from a character but never figured out breasts etc - a proper body splitter would be amazing if anyone has more knowledge about those vertice and bone IDs)
Collider Editor - great to fix up none standard looks collisions
Naturalis - absolutely amazing physics for breasts and butt (like proper self collision etc) at the cost of a lot of performance
Skin Micro Detail - makes skin have more detail, great if you like to be very close to the skin with your viewport
Subsurface Scattering - issues with some shaders but if compatible it makes skin look a lot more real
CheesyFx Shake It / Body Language - a lot of options to make characters in animations behave more lifelike (for example showing sixpack muscles contract/relax while someone is riding you etc, slowly adding sweat if it's a real workout, etc.)

For Males:
Divining Rod - aligns the rod to whatever you want in the scene, very useful if you got random popouts with your fav looks and bodynet is not enough
Going Going Gone - makes body parts invisible and unlike other plugins works in combination with subsurface scattering and weird shaders
Embody - gives a bit more control over the camera while possessing someone

Things to look out for: Naturalis, Cheesy Shake It / Body Language and Subsurface Scattering can all cause issues in some scenes / with some looks. Those should be your first stop when something doesn't work right.

by qdaro almost immediately became my var manager of choice once I found it. Automatically flags dupes and corrupted vars, and integrates hub dependency downloads. Tons of really handy functionality like being able to quickly open, edit, and save meta.json right in the app.

Really great search tools built in too. Can de-dupe items and morphs if you're feeling adventurous. Just really handy being able to immediately find any var I'm looking for, see everything that's actually inside with the image previews, check not only dependencies but dependents to know if it needs to be enabled or not, etc. Being able to quickly check if some appearance var released as a scene actually has an appearance preset in it is very convenient.

Rather than moving any vars, it hides them from VaM by simply changing the extension from .var to .DISABLED. Because of this it pairs quite perfectly with BrowserAssist. The pair have fully replaced var browser for me. Much prefer the UI and overall ease of navigating both, and no more shuffling vars around all the time. Easy to switch back to desktop view, enable/disable things in Qvaro, jump back into VR, then re-scan with BA to access whatever I changed.

Qvaro 1.0 was shared by another user here.

If you want to try to make any poses or animations yourself you absolutely NEED something like .
Being able to click on a knee and actually selecting a knee in one try is so satisfying after the vanilla experience you'll never be able to go without. It also has some advanced stuff that's very handy like switching between angles and positions, and switching between relative movement and movement to global axis.

Additionally, allows you to grab cloth with your mouse. Makes you able to quickly test out physics on clothing. For example if you want to make some panties removable by hand you can more easily find the sweet spot where you can easily rip it off but it is not so loose it falls off on its own. Or maybe you just want to be able to see bobs and vagene in 0.1 sec.

Following as176590811's post here it became clear that we mostly walk around blind in the VAM world.

So here is a thread where we can recommend each other tools and plugins for an easier VAM life.

1. ServerManager is the first tool that starts this thread because it's the one that gave the idea. It makes Windows Explorer show var icons as image previews instead of the universal 7zip icons.

Below I will just continue with my Session Plugins.

2. makes previewing and changing appearances much easier and faster. It also reduces Virt-A-Mate loading speeds if var offloading is enabled.

3. makes almost all of your appearances match all your scenes. Almost no more 'this look doesn't work in this scene'.

4. makes it possible for you to see in every angle of a dark scene. No more need of adding light sources or installing lighting subscenes.

Other plugins recommended below shortlist:
  1. , (scanning for errors and softlinking presets. Not recommended to use with Browser assist offloading feature since it reads the scene.json instead meta.json)
  2. (Still a solid tool for organazing scenes and picking out stuff you want to play with. It works with your meta.json file.)
  3. Another Tool Creator and Vam manager : maybe you like this more. Have not used this in a while maybe it got better.
  4. Edit: After testing is a solid linker and manager you can choose meta.json and scene.json scan. It is still in beta. Downside its in chinese but if you translate a few times you know what each button does

  1. var browser help people who have massive var packages and take too long time to enter game.( )

  1. GossamerVR.MorphFilterPlus - to remove life filtering in morph research (in the default config, vam trys to search what you write after every input and this can make the game very slow if you have a lot of morphs)
  2. Blazedust.CUAM.CustomUnityAssetManager and VamCuaSuperglue
  3. MVRPlugin.SettingsHideErrorPopups - make the error messages ingame apeears as a countbox on the icon instead of appearing as a message.
  4. lockemx.LieStill - to move the view vertically while in VR without having to move in real live (for lying down or stand up positions)
  5. jayjaywon.disablepostmagic - the name says it all
  6. RedEyes.AutoSetPresetLocks - to block scenes from changing character appearance and clothing as you change positions or the scenes progresses
  7. LGGCFX.LgAtomTool - to clean scenes from unwanted items and effects like lights and cuas that reduce fps
  8. MVRPlugin.SettingsCycleNextPerson - make you need to press shift to select another person from the scene, so you dont need to cycle between all characters if you close the window

  1. I am a major fanboi of sfishere's Var Browser so I second as176590811's recommendation. sfishere's original DL post:
  2. VamEssentials' excellent tutorial on how to set up and use Var Browser:
  3. My silly little post on using VB (before VamEssential wrote his): F95 LINK

This app is a good thing to put on the list:

The app "Everything" lets you index and search for literally anything, instantly. Since i got this one, i haven't used the windows search function. A good usecase i use it for is:
I have everything divided into folders for easier management. One stupid thing about that is that i can't easily fetch from a specific regex and drag and drop into Sharp's VAR fixer.

What i do then is:
  1. Use Search inside vars (For example i wanted to scale down all 8k skins to 4k)
  2. Get a list, run it through the .var name finder
  3. Put that in a .text
  4. In Everything hit Search, Advanced search, at the bottom choose file list, set regex, extensions to .var
  5. Drag and drop every single file into Sharps tool, done.
