Very nice so far. I like the asides showing Ali's personality. It took until partway through for me to realize I could click on red text. :LOL: The prologue's the right length, and with three more chapters you should be able to build anticipation without drawing things out too much.
Thank you for the feedback!

Question! I originally had a mini "tutorial" at the beginning of the game. "You can click this." "Post it notes are Ali's immediate thoughts." "Notebook entries are reflections of her future self." But it felt so dry. Like I was playing Final Fantasy 7 again and just trying to click through the level up tutorial.

Do you think it would benefit the game for me to add something quick in there? Maybe just "hey, you can click these"?

Nevermind. I figured how I want to do it. Thanks for you input. It helped me figure it out.

Found two text glitches early in 0.8.6 hotfix.

First, the text didn't get removed/moved for the "19 year old Journalist major, Ali Taylor, poses in Leo's private studio" and it's overwritten by "Britney dangles an "opportunity" in front of Ali".

Second, I chose a custom-named character (Alexis and Lexi for short) and it is not reflected in the text. It keeps using Ali. But it does reflect on the right text.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Also, as new text is added, in this case I agreed with Britney 'Maybe you're right", it continues to not display correctly and also uses the default name.

Thank you. These should actually be fixed as of 0.8.6.b, but I didn’t report the update to the mods yet because I’m waiting for more reports on discord before I commit to that.

Hmm, quick question: the option to pick custom first name/nickname for your MC seems to be gone in the 0.8.6.b

1745517531575.png

Is this intentional change, or a bug that slipped in..?

edit: nevermind, the option now shows up a bit later, once the photo-session starts.

edit 2: small error though, in Scene 2:
Python:
        "\"I wanted to ask about the trip...\"" if len(e0s2_Set3) == 2:
//...
            "[ia]Did he seriously just hang up on me?"
            $ e0s2_Col("argument")
Should be setting that variable to "frustrated" instead. "Argument" flags the conversation as ended by MC, not her dad.

One more small bug, during the photoshoot in Scene 5:

1745538326799.png

When e0s5_Suspicious flag set to False (after being activated earlier in the scene) the game prints the line about becoming suspicious for the second time, even though the flag remain False and the game prints the "trusting" text variants in the main text area.

edit: oh and one more: the hum sound from the photo studio equipment you can trigger during the photo session keeps playing even after the game switches to next scene.

Thank you for these reports. They're now fixed. I'm not sure I'm going to upload another hotfix based only on these fixes, but they'll be in whatever update comes next. I appreciate it.

Hi !

I am curious about what the developper intend for expanding the art :
- Are 2D model for Britney, Leo and others planned ?
- Are character movement planned (Ali changing her pose, unbuttoning her shirt or raising her shirt) ?

Anyway, I greatly enjoy the demo and wish the best of luck to the dev.

Hello! Yes, if I can afford it, 2D model art for Britney etc. is planned for the future. Not currently in the works for episode 1, but for the future.

Probably NOT movement, as it would also mean redrawing every piece of clothing multiple times for each pose. HOWEVER, there are two possibilities I am considering. Changing her pose to 3/4 to make it more dynamic and interesting, which would only require a redraw of her clothing ONCE. And drawing her clothing being removed raised, unbuttoned, etc., but without moving her pose.

Right now I'm getting Episode 1 ready as fast as possible, so if these changes are made it would be for Episode 2.

Thank you for your interest!

I imagine an alternative could be to make your base images split into body part pieces in . Not for animations per se, but it would allow you to arrange the paper doll in the editor in various poses and have all the clothing adjust automatically, ready for capture.

That's actually something I've been meaning to look into. I'm trying to balance rate of production with new features. So it's something to consider carefully.

Thank's for the response !

I was thinking about thing as simple as different arms pose, I don't think that would impact the clothes drawing. Drawing clothes in different stades of removal would be great.

You mentioned adding things like sunburns and the likes, any plans to add body fluids to different parts of the model ?

Anyway, I really like your writing, so I hope you find the inspiration for a full f/f path.

Yes to body fluids. Sunburn and suntan have already been prototyped. An art poll for different shades is already up on my Patreon. I'll post it to free socials in a week or two as a teaser.

My artist does the clothing assets, I do the rest. So part of the limitation is time and skill. I started learning how to draw two years ago in order to make this game. But some changes to life circumstances meant I couldn't dedicate as much time to it as I wanted to for a while.

Basically, I can draw, but I'm slow. So when I'm drawing something new, I have to take the time to practice and study to get it right. It's the reason I chose an art style with minimal shading and simplified form. And why I chose to display a single character, instead of multiple.

When my speed of production reaches an acceptable level, you'll start seeing more characters and poses.

I know that style of inner dialogue and text box looked so familiar xD

Was this inspired by some of Disco Elysium?

Yes! The chat box (what I call it), was definitely inspired by Disco Elysium. I had even worked out how to make Ren'py do that upward movement animation that Disco Elysium does when text is displayed. I had built a paper-and-typewriter sort of effect, but honestly, the sound was really obnoxious and it didn't seem to fit the rest of my UI, so I scrapped it.

It might be worth to try to use such sound either for chapter headers (combined with color change of those, to black font on yellow background to fit the theme) and/or to the decision updates recorded on left pane -- these are infrequent enough the sound wouldn't be constant, and it'd also draw player's attention to the fact a decision that "had impact" was made.

There's already a keyboard typing effect associated with those calls. It's quiet and light to be unobtrusive. That said, I'm reworking (and possibly eliminating) the left column display for the next episode. Right now it's still there and being used in a different capacity. I got a lot of feedback from people that said they either stopped paying attention to it, or never cared for it at all. So it either needs to evolve or disappear.

still a great nod tho, haven't seen another Disco Elysium reference from an avn in quite a while xD
