VN with Gay Content

Hey all,
I am a new member here and am working on my own visual novel using Ren'Py. I monitor a lot of threads and games on this site but don't see many games with gay content. My current project is all M4M gay content. I wanted to post it because the community seems pretty active and I wanted feedback. How friendly is the site to gay visual novels or games? Does it matter? Thanks in advance.

I for one would love to see your project. There aren't nearly enough adult games with a good amount of gay content about.

I think the japanese style VN is quite popular (yaoi).

The problem there is people make games to earn a bit of money. The majority of H gamers are straight. They would make a lot less money with a game centered around homosexuality.

If you are making it because it's something you want to do then you'll probably find a niche following.

If you are making it in the hopes of making any money with it, you may struggle.

Thanks for the initial replies, guys. I figured I would setup a Patreon just to get some pizza and beer money. It also gives a set location where people can give feedback and download versions from. Definitely not trying to get rich but, like others, I wouldn't mind a little kickback for the time spent. It's more of a hobby. I don't want it to feel like a job.

Given the amount of straight content on F95, I wasn't sure if this was mainly straight-only. But it does make sense that if you were trying to make money, you would target the majority audience.

The more the merrier. While I wouldn't consume it myself, diversity of themes is always good.

This niche you're going is quite scarce, there's almost not a single purely MxM VN out there.

The only one I can think of is Sissy Maker, even so it's not entirely MxM.

Beggar of Net's The New Life also has some MxM content, but it's very limited.

The site is very open to almost any content (see General Rules for the exception). You'll get the occasional immature homophobe, but the admins will squash any rule breakers.

I personally think there's a high demand for gay-only games. If you follow through and make a decent one, I'm sure it will be successful.

There is a lack of gay content so there is certainly a market for it.

It may be niche but, as Jerricho said, you make a decent game and it could do you well.

What kind of story are you thinking about?

Still in development. I just launched version 0.1 on my Patreon a few days ago so very new....very. But mainly the average dating sim and stuff. Right now the story picks up when the MC starts first day of college and meets his roommate. The roommate is my avatar pic to give you an idea. Mostly will be based on interactions between them but I want to implement secondary characters as well. If i get more comfortable with Ren'Py, it may get more complex.

I don't have upload rights here so I'm working with one of the staff now to see if I can get it posted for those who are interested and to get feedback from a wider audience. So far, I've only posted it on a torrent site and the Patreon account.

I've been thinking of adding an optional gay path for the main character of a game I'm working on. I can honestly say I've never seen bisexual main character in game unless you count Mass Effect, haha.

I mean, if you want to play straight content, you could pick almost any other game. That's why they made the game.
