I've head that pia is no being owned by a bad company with a bad history. I live in a religious country where we are snooped upon constantly. Can anyone recomend an ok priced vpn that doesn't log traffic etc?

Nord works well for most things - Mullvad I trust a bit more - but a bit slower sometimes.

I looked at Nord because it had good reviews but WindScribe also had good reviews and was a third the price with the voucher I had. It worked out at $38.50 for three years in the end.

I don't use torrents so not an issue for me.

I currently use ExpressVPN (Paid with Bitcoins) to Tor on a cash-purchased anonymous laptop. Always use random public WiFi for uploads/downloads/torrents on a 2nd anonymous laptop. Never connect both laptops to the same public WiFi at the same trip.

If you use a Tor browser that's connected to the internet through a VPN that's running inside a VM that it itself is running on an anonymous laptop that's connected to a different VPN, is that called being safe or just paranoid? Asking for a friend!

I use AirVPN myself.

It's not the cheapest and (because it has a lot of options) it can be hassle to set up properly.
But, it does have a lot of options, and it is a company which I feel is trustworthy.

To me, trustworthyness is the main concern when selecting a VPN because you'll be routing all your traffic, or at least the sensitive traffic, through them. They have a complete picture of your entire internet activities. And if you don't pay with Bitcoin they'll also know who you are. All that taken into account, I have no problem paying a bit more. I reviewed all major VPN providers at the time and AirVPN felt the most trustworthy because of their location (inside EU), technical knowledge and policies.

Tor + anonymously paid VPN seems the most watertight solution but it's a hassle and Tor does not have the bandwidth necessary to download games from F95Zone in my experience.

But if you live in Saudi Arabia, Iran or a similar country, it is what probably I would use anyway.

An alternative may, of course, be not to break the law, however stupid you may think it is.

To be honest, If I lived in Saudi Arabia or Iran, I would probably not bother with porn at all.
I kinda like the fact that my head is still connected to the rest of my body and I would like to keep it like that for a while longer.

Alternatively, you can trade and/or copy DVD's with friends. It used to work for me before the internet.

Ultimately most things you do on the internet can be tracked or snooped on.
Tor and/or VPN may seem safe today but maybe it will be cracked at the exact moment you are doing something illegal.

Although I am a bit sceptical about AES encryption for that reason, with regards to Tor it does not matter that much in my opinion.

A known vulnerability could be that someone controls all nodes in a particular network. That someone could be the US government. But that eventuality is unlikely. There are too many nodes and everybody can run a Tor node if he likes.

Besides, if you live in a "religious country where we are snooped upon constantly" then you are not living in the US, making you less vulnerable to their spying. It is absolutely worthwile to check which countries share intelligence with your country.
