VN - Ren'Py - Waifu Academy [v0.11.0] [Irphaeus]

Clearly a great game to play.
Girls are beautiful and diverse enough in characters, traits, speech etc. so that you don't feel they are a copy-paste of each other.
Music& sound are interesting from the moment they started to appear.

The story is interesting (even if at times, it speak too much) and the comedy/humour is right on spot, well timed and really fun, which is quite unusual in games.

The only reasons in fact I did only give 4 stars are:
- a bit because of some sex scenes animation (or animation in general) which have some weird vibe compared to the magnificient static scenes. I hope those scenes will be reworked but it's not a given at all since I assume they take a lot of production time for a minimal time of appearance in the whole game.
- the quality of the beginning, which is clearly less than after, and the difference of quality is clearly felt when you start from scratch up to what I played (that is v0.9.9). I assume this flaw can be reworked when the game is polished at the end.

Put a lot of thought into making this review as short and concise as possible but failed miserably as theres way too much to unpack.

4 years following this VN. So many times i have given the developers slack on update schedules because they all have their own circumstances IRL, but damn 4 YEARS in production and we are lucky if we get 2 updates a year. That is my first and biggest disappoint with this VN.

I have loved this game since i first played it and for that I am even still giving it 3 stars, although it could fairly be rated lower. The good things about this game are the renders and animations. The characters and character models are really well done for HS and the scenes are really hot.

My beef is with the writing and the MC himself. In the beginning the whole "revenge" thing was ok because it was limited to the people that had hurt him. However, the MC is worse than all those people put together. He is such an asshole that he would willingly ruin innocent people to get revenge on the guilty ones. Which.. tbh is just evil. Also the choices between Love/Revenge paths dont always have much seperation, the only difference between them is if you are the one in the sex/molestation scenes or if other men get involved. One could argue the "sharing" tag should be included. In several cases the girls form a deep emotional attachment to the MC, yet his internal dialogue is still debating on pimping them out to get access to people he wants revenge on.

Too many women for the mc to devote much time to them all. It seems centered more around his family and close neighbors (Shiela, mom, Catherine) And random events in school and train. Sometimes we finally get with a new girl and we will have a few scenes with them over an arc and then they are forgotten for years, never to have another scene. Theres even a few girls that have a scene and are forgotten right away as if they never existed.

interesting good game, but the gallery part and the scene replay part of the game, is uncomplete or buggy. Yoko nishimoto in game water pic is not unlockable at all in the gallery even if you finish the game. And in the scene replay most scene with her are missing.

the same goes with Jira Baagha'l her motobike pics are not unlockable.
this is very frustrating to finish a game with these bugs.

i don't even know where to start with this one. i've been following this game for about 4 years now and the progression it's had so far isn't looking very promising

updates are way too slow, to the point if you get 2 updates a YEAR you are a very lucky individual. also from what i've seen, the writing keeps getting worse and lazy, filled with typos and unnecessarily long dialogues. i'm not the type to just blatantly skip through texts but at some point i end up doing just that

karma system is an absolute mess. i have no doubt in my mind it's not going to be implemented properly anytime soon, if ever

the story seemed interesting at first, as you progress though you can easily tell that the developer doesn't have the slightest idea what to do with it

and the most frustrating thing, we still can't run through kayane. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SO. DAMN. LONG.

besides everything; the humour, fun references and characters aren't too bad. in fact, they're the only thing that keeps you playing. that and the sex scenes, because gahdamn.

i am very much ashamed to say that this game is my guilty pleasure. don't get me wrong though, the developer is a lazy scamming douchehat that'll most likely milk this game for as looong as he can and never deliver the full product. cheers

Actually made me laugh a couple times out loud, great animation/ character design, really good story. To put it short, this is the game that got me hooked on the genre. I can't wait for the full release.

People are going crazy over how great the models looks, I mean it's AI Shoju studio or something like that with 4k textures, which is fine with me if the author does something with the program i'm too lazy too figure out. Like Skyrim porn.

That being said the scenes are pretty hot, the ones with Shelia go to the top of the list. People want to know about story, but these Ren'pys go on forever with dialogue and have porn plots, where nothing can really happen cause the dev has to keep adding porn. So stuff kinda happens, but doesn't mean anything. So i don't really read more than i need to here and there.

Lots of content, wish the models had vagina bones cause the thing just kinda goes into the thing like it's a flat texture, but the dev positions the models really well for lots of variety. Just be aware it's easy to get a game over from bad choices so save often.

My Honest opinion the art is good, character etc. but for Story is not my type. but on the side of the story there is something lacking like in the locker section with asuka whether there is no other choice and always leads to game over. After that the choice is peep hole, can't we skip that scene, I mean the game lacks branches and every time the Protagonist talks a little to women it immediately leads to sex or etc. the game lacks options for the Protagonist as we can choose between Love Route, Slave/Submission route or Dominant Route etc. so we just follow what story the developer has provided for us

Personally, I place it among top of the games (Ren'Py) I've played so far.

# The Pros:

1. It has an interesting story.

2. There are variety of characters with their own unique personality.

3. The MC is not dumb & has characteristics to grow stronger.

4. There are two routes the story can progress (Love & Revenge).

5. The animations make the game much better.

# The Cons:

1. It would be better if there were an option to do both routes together. [For example, If one is made slave, the love options disappears & vise versa. Well, it happened in a previous version of the game (sorry I don't remember the exact version as I played this v0.9.8 Pt. ONE almost after a year). Again, if the potion is used on "Keiko Sensei", using on "Yuko" for the negative karma one become invalid. So, to see what it would happen, there's no choice to go back & make the respective choices to unfold those scenes.]

2. I think, it would be better if there were voices in the h-scenes. [Some scenes do contain some voices though it's only for a little time after starting; not the whole scene. Anyway, it's not that big of a deal.]

3. There are some poses that doesn't go very well with the dialogue or conversations. [For example, "Okatu's" some poses with hands in the air & well, I don't really like that pose. ]

4. In this version (0.9.8 Pt. ONE), some dialogues are really shitty. [For example, the conversations with Cat & MC about the moons. Well, a single time is fine, twice is okay but more that that it becomes .]



Anyway, overall, it's an interesting game & I hope to play the later versions as soon as possible.

Hastily done, immoral dev, should have been better. Story is patchwork at best. Easily forgettable events, the first few updates were great, then it all went to shit. Hope somebody else reworks this project from the ground up

version v0.9.8

Very lovely characters. MC is cool. There are not so much important choises but main story is generally interesting and fascinating.
Also there are nice jokes and mentions of different anime or others stuff.

play v0.7.1a with french trad (which explains my poor written English, sorry)

story: 3/5 I'm not a fan of stories of revenge and drugged sex so I didn't enjoy it too much, but overall the story isn't bad to read

characters: 4/5 Lots of fairly successful and diverse female character, MC is quite hateful and not believable, he's often shown as "nice" when next to that, he's trash. His character is really badly written.

sex scene: 5/5 There are many, mostly very erotic and of decent length (my favorite is the one under the table with minami)

renders: 4/5 This kind of rendering is weird when you see them for the first time, but you get used to it quickly and you quickly become a fan

animation: 4/5 They could be perfect if it weren't for some (rare) fps issue and looping issue (often)

sound: there are, I appreciate it!

gameplay: 3/5 We are asked to make choices often, but which in reality have very little importance on the story (if any)

there are literally at least 12 fuckable girls i find attractive by design in this game. i have only been playing for an evening but the writing is well done from the get go, i love how edgy the mc is, and he's also a badass so far from what i've seen. the karma seems interesting if there will actually be branching paths and little hidden scenes for a particular set of choices that would be sweet as well. Looking forward to more, definitely looking like one of the best games i've decided to check out in a while.

I'm out of words to be able to describe how much I liked this game, mind blowing of how much work was done to develop a product that's clearly thought out to be able to deliver a game that's both entertaining and with a plot that will keep interested all the time, without the feeling that's it's just going downhill as it progress... I'm really excited to see what comes next, how the karma system will work and etc... I'll make sure to give my support on patreon, it's been such a long time since I played a game that I liked and reach the end of the udpade excited to what's come next instead of the feeling that the dev is completely lost.
Anyways the only downside about it is the no kissing policy in this game, it's the first time I've played a game with absolutely no kissing and I really don't understand why it can not be introduced in this game, in my opinion it would fit nicely.

I have tried to figure out why exactly I don't enjoy Waifu Academy as much as I should and what is bothering me all this time until it struck me. Author has this weird fascination with this old style porn writing:
"Mam, I'm your plumber and have come to CLEAN YOUR TUBES!" WINK WINK - and it's basicly more then half of the novel written this way! More flowery and with a lot more words and 4chan/pop culture references, but still. Also, almost everybody in this story is miserable, and gross, and dumb, and vile, and cynical, and depressive, and so on and so forth. And for all this giant wall's of text you get a lot of teasing and petting and stuff, and very little of actual sex. Can't really blame author for his stylistic choice, it's just not my style.

If all of this this isn't bothering you, go and play this VN, it's good, you gonna like it.

One of the best games around here. Nice Honey Select art and animations, story that balances fun but not dumb with seriousness and a MC that just loves to fuck bitches. Enough options to keep things interesting, but not such a tangled web that you feel overwhelmed or bored. Good pacing too for sex scenes. Just all around a real treat and very bonerific.

At first glance this title didn't appeal to me at all.. HOWEVER.. i've never been happier to be so wrong.. I'll get this outta the way 1st and say Maki-chan has claimed my avn heart despite steep competition from a few others in the title..
I have previously only played two other japanimation (i dunno what the correct term is for the more animated looking types aside from just putting it into anime type casting) Mur Mur and Once in a Lifetime.. actually make that 3 with Eternum being a recent addition.. I'd loved those titles and unfairly my taste for comparison and things not being as good as led me away from what i saw on first glance at WA.. Again i'm glad i took the chance and was proven so wrong about this title.. The Humour is GRADE A.. I love the small in game fourth wall breaches including the hilarious Metal Gear Solid V references about acquiring various things and being sent back to mother base.. add to that howling with laughter at the voice overed script screens after awakening Rachel and hounding her with ridiculous questions instead of the plot driven ones.. It showed PURE BRILLIANCE by the writer and something that has been there throughout keeping me entertained as well as a huge fan of this project..
I dont know how long this title has left and despite the waifu hunter on the horizon but its a title i will genuinely be sorry to see end when the time comes..
The characters are amazing, the writing witty and very clever, the story had a slow start but grew into something that had a great amount of twists and turns, back stabbings and glorious vengeance moments and the lewd was well done as well..
Having played a near full run on the Positive Kharma path I recently restarted the game to try a Bad Kharma route as well and it only adds to the various diverging paths and scenes of the game.. Although i'm still not sure if the train scene with MINAMI being assaulted ended right.. given that i was doing a EVIL only route i let the scenes play out to their fullest yet on the mc leaving the train after ignoring Minami's assault I received a +5 Evil Khama choice that wasn't available, forcing you back to the choice screen where the only other available resulted in a Game Over.. For others who did this route i'd be interested to know if this was intended to force a 'save minami' choice prior to that moment or if it WILL indeed be made available.. I ask this now as i know the dev likes to troll its readers too with choices being reversed (the RIKUNA KAITO shower scene) so i wasn't sure if this was something similar.. leaving that save on hold till i could find out if it was going to be fixed in a later update (as said on the game screen) - If anyone knows about this please drop us a reply..
All in all if your looking to try this game but browsing the feedback to make a informed choice then like the many other fans here i'm happy to give this a worthy HELL YES! recommendation

Review of v0.9.4a...

I’m not a fan of using Honey Select to make these games, but I don’t let that stop me from at least trying games like this out. I’m glad I did because the story has pretty much hooked me.

I really like the writing. The humor and clever wit make me smile. I love how much of a shit lord the MC is. There are a lot of cultural references that are used well, although I didn’t understand a few of them.

The story does a good job if imitating every day random life. The comical back and forth wit really helps.

The text of the writing itself could use some work. There are spelling and grammar errors peppered throughout. It’s not bad, but it should have gone through a couple of proofreads.

Most of my issues with the game are probably just personal nitpicks. Let’s start with the characters. I like most of them except…

• Otaku – I couldn’t stand this guy. The stereotypical incel slobbering over panty shots. I was so glad when the MC told him to fuck off.
• Minami – I don’t hate Minami, but when she starts fucking, she puts on a cat girl outfit and acts like a fully submissive cat girl. I don’t find that particularly appealing, so it was kind of a turn off. Which is a shame since Minami is really cute.
• Yoko turns into a cunt because she misunderstands a situation with her friend and feels betrayed. She’s also a camgirl and I found it amusing when you see her as a camgirl she turns into an insufferable SJW baiting those thirsty allies. Muh patriarchy, mansplaining, toxic masculinity.
• Sheila is supposed to be the MC’s stepsister which I guess means she came with MC’s mom’s new husband. It’s never specifically stated unless I glossed right over it. All I remember is MC said his mom remarried. At first I thought Sheila was a daughter she had with her new husband, until she started being called the MC’s stepsister.
• Way too many of the girls have those ridiculously large fantasy tits. One is fine, but not half of them.
• The MC makes several witty quips intimating he knows they are all in a game. I hate fourth wall breaks in these games. For me they are like slamming into a brick wall. They take me out of the game for a little bit.
• There is a store where you can buy items like wine for $40, or a computer for $600. But you start the game with no money and throughout the whole game there was only two instances where you earned money. There is no real reason to buy any of the items, but it doesn’t really matter anyway since there is no place to see how much money you have. This aspect of the game must not be implemented yet.

The MC keeps having flashbacks to when his life was horrible as a kid at 13. His mother having run out on them after his father became a vegetable, and his neglectful grandmother. The only solace he finds is with their neighbor Roxy who just so happens to be a prostitute. He considered her his best friend since she was nice to him and hung out with him when he was lonely. It would be interesting if now that the MC is older and crushing puss if he coincidentally ran into her again after all the years and they started something between them.

I would have given this game a full 5 stars if it wasn’t for the numerous script errors. I really look forward to seeing how the rest of the game turns out.

Just finished the game not long ago, man it was a blast, and glad to come across this. Although the story is quite long I think it's alright. Well, some of the times I really hope we could have more choices to make but I'm still satisfied with it.

It's easily my top 5. I don't give a damn about the updates or the scamming - I didn't put a single penny in it, there's plenty of story and content so far, and if this one's completed in a year or so I'll continue playing.
I'm not going to repeat other reviews so I'll cut to the chase.

One thing that those who rate it 1-3 here MISERABLY fail to get ahold of is that you don't need to look at this game as some Slice Of Life type shit, a'ight - it's just bad for your health, guys. Just stop. I see this as a parody on some ongoing fanserv type anime and guess what? It works perfectly fine that way! The plot, the harem, the silly situations, the characters and their behavioral patterns - everything falls into place! Not everything has to be "War and Peace", there are other games for that, goddamit!

10/10 Can't wait to play the complete edition.

It's time to turn the page on this game, not because of the updates taking a long time but because the content is fucking awful.

The MC has a grudge against a bunch of people so he uses that to do all kinds of garbage to people. Even when he doesn't have a grudge against people he still uses them and never cares about putting them in danger. Frankly the MC is the worst character in the game.

The game also doesn't really give you a choice in big things-like Sheila becoming a whore for instance. You are just supposed to go "oh okay" and act like it's all great. If you won't give choices to the player then the "game" is largely a movie you watch while hitting prompts to move the story forward.

That's really the biggest problem with Waifu is that you have to be a sick fuck to like it most of the time. 0/10 for story. 7/10 for the art. 0/10 because of the sick shit in the game.
