Hey everyone! :giggle:

I really loved this game, but it seems like the dev disappeared over a year ago with no contact.
I’m thinking about doing a remake to continue the story.

Do you think I’d run into any LEGAL problems because of the younger character or any other problems doing it without the dev’s permission? Also, what do you guys think about this idea?

Thank you for your opinion.

This entirely depends on the laws of where you live and if the original dev attempted to take any action against you.

I created a remake of someone else's game, so I completely understand your desire to do so, but I think it should be handled delicately. I did not get the devs permission to create my remake, but I haven't had any issues with sharing it here for a few reasons:
1. I'm not trying to profit off of someone else's work.
2. I released my version as a mod, which still requires the original game to work.
3. I openly credit the original devs and don't try to claim ownership over the game

As it was already said, legal problems due to the taboo content itself will depend on where you live, but if that's not a problem then the only issue would be it getting banned from most places. Specially if you want to make money from it.

About issues with the original devs when remaking a game, I mean, other than maybe making them angry or maybe the fans of the game, I don't think there is really that much of a problem with remaking it, specially if it was abandoned. It was made with Daz assets, so the dev doesn't have exclusivity with anything art related. And the story, well, not only it is abandoned so at some point it will be your original ideas in the game, but since you said a "remake" I'm assuming you don't intend to make it exactly as the original.

For example, True Bond is a game that was abandoned for a LONG time and I think it is very well liked so now there are a bunch of games that spawned from people wanting to continue it. Of course, they don't share a brain with the original creator so those games took their own identities. Now the original creator actually came back recently with a new update and I don't know what he thinks about those spin-offs people are making of his game, but I doubt he can really do anything about it.

to be fair, a year without updates for these kind of games is pretty standard a lot of the time. But if the dev is really MIA, why not go for it? Just make it as like an optional alternate version of the original
