haha, I'm guilty of using the Japanese words sometimes. A few times, like the word 'tsundere', which is a women with a harsh initial personality who warms up over time, just is quicker than saying that all out.

But yea, having 'cuckold' and 'stag' could help a lot with clarify the overall vibe of a game. NTS is just way too broad imo. I always have to search if 'cuck' comes up in the thread lol.

Unfortunately then you'll have to wade through a lot of results of harembois screaming 'cuck game' when a husband has sex with his literal wife or girlfriend

I like this split though, cuckold and stag are great shorthand descriptors in which the bulk of western story paths could be described.

Why the hell does a site NOT based in Japan, NOT using the Japanese language anywher else, insist on using Japanese language to describe such a wide field of sexual endeavours
I guess for the same reason we use the French word "romance" for "a book about love" - because the Japanese pioneered adult visual novels, porn games, etc. When the West only had humble attempts at erotic games (which mostly looked like simple point-and-click adventure games), Japan had departments in game development companies dedicated to that. A lot of voice actresses who voiced popular anime also have voiced hentai games in their portfolio. Needless to say, the Western professional adult visual novel is still something very rare, if it even exists; the Western porn games scene is 99% indie (or 100%?). In Japan, AVNs lost the popularity they had and now are also mostly indie, but there are still several professional studios making porn games (such as Eushully) and AVNs (Giga).

Notice also how the Japanese terms are originally porn (literature) terms, not real sexual practices, while all Western terms (swinging, cuckolding, hotwifing) stem from real-life sexual practices that only later got into porn.

Btw, the site doesn't use Japanese terms for NTS; pretty sure the tag is "swinging." The problem is that this tag generalizes all kinds of Western games "involving the love interest engaging sexually with other people under the protagonist's consent" (here, I avoided using "NTS"! :ROFLMAO:). So what we need is to break one Western term (swinging) into several other Western terms.

western 'avns' might be fairly new and the small kid on the block, but the broader western adult games have a long history as well. You can go back to the 1980s with text-based amiga rpg style adult games, then later on to stuff like leisure suit larry.

For all their faults, this is something I love about the 'Lesson of Passion' production house. All their games have an unmistakable western style storytelling, no matter if the specific game theme is medieval, fantasy, pirates, drug narcos, etcetc. It's always awkward responding to ppl who ask in that thread 'which games have ntr' because it's such a poor fit. There are games with girlfriends cheating, also games with tons of group sex and swinging, then games with voyeurism and spying on girls getting nasty, the whole works.

Yep, you wanna throw history in there, dontcha?
Japanese history.
Western history.
Sexual history.

Why don't we use Latin words then? They were apparently the most decadent society since the caveman, long before the Japanese if that is your inference..... or Germanic words? Those guys are into some serious shit.....or my fellow Aussies in the bush? Desperate times and all that.....They all have decent lewd stories, told around the campfire at first, then put into words, then put on a screen....who claims "first" history? Its all bullshit, that tale of Japs inventing porn....every man and woman since the dawn of time has had sexual fantasies, and some pretty severe kinks (why the f does religion exist if not partly for that, and the imagination of the stars?)

History is a useless reference point in an "edgy" story, set in modern times, in a far-off imaginary world, or down the street at a local college or office, no matter where it is written, because any history can tell a lie, and especially when relevance to the here and now is what is important......

Fuck, don't even get me started about sexual political history....or religious sexual history.....or any other field of biological history.....

Just give me plain English, on a plain English site.....should I get ChatGPT to translate this whole post into Japanese? No?

I am certain that we have Western equivalents for these terms. For instance, the Western equivalent of yandere is OLD (Obsessive Love Disorder), which is a very dangerous mental illness

We can agree on the fact that when western writers use terms like tsundere to describe their characters it's kinda cringy :HideThePain:
Eh, anime has become mainstream and influential enough that it's become the main point of reference for plenty of western creators. When they're clearly pulling lots of ideas of from anime and other Japanese media, why wouldn't you just use the Japanese word for the Japanese trope that is being borrowed?

If they're intentionally stylizing their work like anime, then there's no problem

If I'm describing games like that, indeed that makes sense. I try and avoid games like that here
