You have been around the forum long enough to know better. This title is a particular exception to other "hand drawn" BS titles. This title could have better shelf life if it were fully fleshed out & released on steam(My bet they eventually will do that)....but it seems like Magicnut took the usual patron route....hence "bigger" update promises to keep alive the project as long as they can aka milking. Magicnut getting close to that category of devs....Quality top notch no doubt but is the Quantity worth the wait?
Considering v0.1 (intro, roasted bunny quest and Maple's quest) took them more than a year while working on their regular jobs, and one year later we were at 0.4 and a half... yeah, I'd very much prefer waiting 5 months between reasonably big updates than waiting for a 'fully fleshed out Steam release' that would probably never take place at all haven't they chosen the Patreon route, because honestly, who's gonna spend like 8 years or so working on a side project in their spare time hoping just for a bit of luck with their anonymous Steam release?

So Patreon is actually what keeps this project (and many more) alive at all, and milking is an odd concept here. Lack of info, empty and constantly unfulfilled promises, that's what makes a dev a milker. No one can't honestly apply that term to this team and no, in my opinion they are not even close to that. Now, of course everyone is free to think what they want and decide if quantity and quality worth this wait between updates, but let's do exactly that: think, before deciding (and posting)

So I remember this game, I remember that I took my time reading the dialogue having a few chuckles with it, loved the art, went to the Orb Scene gallery and was "a its ok, a little on the light/normal fetish side, not my preference but the game is unique so we can swallow that down". Last ver. that I played was 0.2 and I don't remember if the picture mechanic was introduce in that version. Now the subject for this comment is the Pictures Mechanic, Will it be used as a manner of putting heavier non-canon fetishes? Like in Milfy City for example? Don't know if the Dev can answer me this.

Can I just take a moment to say how fantastic this game is?

I'm not going to formally review it yet, because I never review a game until I'm done with it- meaning either until I'm reviewing the completed game, or until I've given up on it because I've decided it's too crap to waste any more of my time on. But seriously, I just want to express how much I'm loving this game so far. If everything remains on track and we eventually see completion, it's almost a dead certainty it's gonna be a 5-star game. And unlike a lot of people, I don't throw out perfect scores willy-nilly to everything that mildly amuses me ("yeah I guess it's alright, 10/10").

Firstly and most obviously, the art is simply gorgeous. The world is vibrant and bright, the characters are all visually distinct from each other (apart from the guards, obviously, which is part of the joke), and the women are, for the most part, simply stunningly beautiful. The gameplay is, well, it's basic for this kind of game, but that's a good thing- the puzzles make sense and the solutions aren't obnoxiously obscure. I hate it when developers try and make progress artificially difficult in the name of fake "gameplay"- it's an erotic visual novel, OK? We're here for the story and the porn.

But the best part about it is the story, by which I mean the characters. The plot overall is a bit average, bordering on cliche, but the characters make it. Most importantly, I really like the MC. He's more than a bit goofy and can come across a bit dim sometimes, but he's never portrayed as so shit-thick I want to slap him (unlike SOME moron protagonists I could name). More importantly, he's blatantly perverted, constantly thinking with his dick and occasionally brushing up against the edge of being a bit of a creep, but the important thing is he never crosses that line- he may perv on Myrtle while she's bathing and sometimes try a bit too hard to pressure her into doing sexy things with him despite her clear commitment to remaining faithful to her husband as long as he could be alive, but he's always kind and genuinely respectful towards her (not just "if I act nice to her I'll get her pussy eventually"), and he may think Holly is hot, but he means it when he says he's helping her because it's the right thing to do, not for her body. I've played some really good games that are undermined by what an utter douche the player character has to be in order to get laid (most notably Lust Epidemic, which would be a top-tier game if Brad wasn't such a complete fucking tool), but a little perving here and there can be excused when you can wrestle Holly into submission (explicitly winning the right to do anything you want to her by her own admission) and then say with a straight face that you're not going to even so much as grope her if it's not what she wants. And I love the little details like petting the baby fox and even winning over the mother just for the pure love of cute animals. No matter how much of a goof he is, the MC is a guy you can respect.

The girls in general are great, because there's so much variety to them. It's mostly humans so far, although the elf women, Maple and Gomira offer great promise of more exotic types (I always love me a halfling, gnome or goblin girl), but even the human women provide a great deal of variety, from the classic, shy beauty of Myrtle, Rose's exotic, secretive, gypsy spiciness, Holly's spunky, short-tempered farmgirl fire, the unashamed sluttiness of Anne, the dusky aristocratic beauty of Madeline, the milfy curves of Gretta, even the too-good-to-be-real "darling Celestina". It really exemplifies the advantage of hand-drawn 2D art over 3D model packs like Daz or HoneySelect, where every girl ultimately looks pretty much the same. They have great stories and personalities as well- Holly is bitchy and short-tempered but not a genuinely nasty person (the scene with her in the well where she thinks about what will happen to Abe if she just decides to accept exile was a great moment) and simply kissing her felt like a real accomplishment, while Myrtle's story has so much more to it than just "get over your missing husband and hop on the big new cock". Serena is hilarious in her arrogant self-centeredness, but not just a vapid airhead, and is also refreshingly sexual- her refusal to fuck you really is entirely to do with class-conscious snobbiness rather than just prudishly acting like she's too good for such dirty things (the scene where you titfuck her image, which she can feel every bit of, while she watches and frigs herself is probably the hottest one in the game). The sex scenes in general are fantastic as well, with a great deal of passion and intimacy to them, rather than just mechanical IKEA erotica- the first time you make love to Myrtle in the cave in particular was just amazingly sweet as well as hot.

It's not JUST the women either. I love the way you can make friends with a bunch of men, who often feel like either an afterthought, or nothing more than an obstacle or threat in games like this. Junior and Kevin in particular are characters I just really like because they're nice, friendly guys who help the MC and he gets along well with them. Not EVERY male NPC in a porn game has to be there just to threaten to cuck you, or for you to cuck, and it's cool that the MC can just have a couple of good mates he can hang out with. Junior in particular looks like a stereotypical big goofy loser character, but is actually a lot smarter and more reliable than he looks. I hope the story goes far enough to let you meet Junior's fiance, I hope you help them sort out any further relationship issues, I hope you get invited to their wedding, and I REALLY hope that there's no possibility of you cucking Junior AND that his fiance is actually conventionally attractive, rather than comedically homely just to excuse you not getting to have sex with her. Seriously, don't make her ugly just for a laugh at Junior's expense, not even as a chin-stroking "beauty is only skin deep" moral about how there's more to a woman than just looks; there are enough beautiful women in the world to go around. Just let him have his beautiful bride, dammit, because he went WAY above and beyond the call of duty helping you and Myrtle, and bro deserves a happy ending. Not EVERY attractive woman in a porn game has to be fuckable by the player character, y'know. Besides, I'm sure we're going to meet his "ugly twin" sister eventually and it's going to be obvious he was either just joking about her looks, or only considers her that way because they're siblings. And Kevin's such a bro. He actually brightens up the game every time he shows up. When you actually get your hands on a permit to get into the city legitimately, you should meet up with him at a bar to celebrate. I think it'd be funny if you met his wife and she looks just like him- in that she always wears full-body armour with a face-covering helmet with expressive eyeholes too.

Speaking of which, the game is also REALLY funny in places. Like genuinely funny, not just trying to be funny (which rarely ends well). Bits like the wolf being set on fire, running across the forest map to dive into the ocean, only to be eaten by a passing shark are literally laugh-out-loud hilarious. Which is another thing that helps the story stand out against its contemporaries.

Honestly, as far as actual feedback goes, I really can't think of anything that needs to be improved. I'm seriously trying to think of a part I don't like that I think should be fixed, and I'm drawing a blank. About the only complaint I can make is the trivial observation that during the sex scene dialogue the girls have a tendency to draw out consonant sounds other than "n", "l" or "s" (or vowels) for too long in a way that's actually unpronounceable ("It's so BIGGGGGGGGGGG"- how would you even say that, "biguhguhguhguhguhguhguh"?). That's about as much as I got. As far as suggestions go (apart from the ones I made earlier about Junior's and Kevin's women), I just have to say that I love how almost every woman is slated to get pregnancy content because that is literally my favourite type of content- I just wonder how that's going to play out long term? Will it go as far as birth like, say, Summertime Saga or S.H.E.L.T.E.R, and what happens afterwards? Just hoping you think it through properly in advance- rushing it can lead to poor results, like Corrupted Kingdoms, which caved to audience pressure to rush preggo content into the game and ended up implementing it in a very contrived and unsatisfying manner, which would now be almost impossible to fix. My recommendation would be that the women are able to get pregnant and give birth ONCE, and after that it can't happen again because Reasons (not because contrived unrealistic reasons, just because narative Reasons). Unless you want to actually individually code in options for each woman to be able to give birth to and raise multiple of your childen if you play for long enough, which would be AWESOME, but also ridiculous amounts of work, when the game looks like a ridiculous amount of work already.

So in short (a bit of a comical thing to say after I've gone on for this long), great job on the game, keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next update.
Thank you so much for your kind words and the feedback.

Finally decided to try this game out

Story is okay and the graphics are top-tier for 2D.

Only complaint, the game feels like one giant fetch quest. I've been moving through the same forest area clicking through the same maps for the past hour. Already starting to liberally skip dialogue.

Getting pretty bored if im being honest but I can see the potential... Going to tough it out and see if it gets better
I agree that there's a lot of fetching, although if you had to skip the dialogues, then the culprit might be the story. Do you have any suggestions for different quest designs?

Is it normal for the game to take about 6 months to update?
It's not complete, but one update period?
I'm sorry if my question was rude.
We started work on 0.5 on the 21st of Feb, which makes it 4 months and a half of dev time and not six (to be fair we're not done yet, even though I have my eyes glued to the screen to make sure it doesn't reach 6). But to your question, this is certainly longer than our previous releases. Do we want this duration to be the new normal? Absolutely not. Did we plan for it to take this long? No. After 0.4, our plan was to try to do stories using 2 quests rather than 3 to shorten the release cycle, but 0.5 happened to be about the main story and not a side-quest character. That meant that we couldn't just do two loosely-linked quests and finish it, but had to tell a story that made sense given what went on in the past and set up the events of the next part of the main story. Now 0.5 will still finish with a cliff-hanger (not literally this time), but at least the events of the update have a satisfactory end (in my opinion, at least).

And feel free to ask any other questions. I'll answer them the best I can.

A few points:
- Had we not used Patreon to support the development, we would probably have done 0.2 by now but, in all likelihood, would still be working on 0.3. You may think that that's okay, but we did what was best for the game, not knowing that it will have any success, but hoping it will give us enough income so that at least one of us could work on it full-time. It did a lot more than that, and thanks to Patreon, we have both been developing content for WaL since last May.

- I won't speak ill of other devs, since aside from not knowing enough about them to pass judgment about their approach, I have seen how difficult it is to develop games. But in general, when I hear the term milking, I think of a project that doesn't have much content actually planned, and its developers put a minimum amount of work and effort into its making, and instead use artificial means to maintain interest and maximize gains. That is, if anything, the exact opposite of our case in two ways: first, we have loads of stories and content planned (with varying degrees of detail) so that even though creating is never easy or straightforward, we have loads of ideas, and if pure financial gain was the motive, we could simplify some of those stories and reduce the arts and try to force an update every month or two to get maximum exposure and income. Second, it may not show it (even though I really hope it does), but we have been working 50-57 hours a week (that's dev time and not community stuff like writing this post). Others can do it faster and better, but this is our speed.

- None of our Patreon perks are essential for playing the game. In other words, most of those who support us do so simply because they liked what there was and hope that we can make more of them, and providing that (to both patrons and everyone else) is precisely what we're trying to do. Our team is small enough that I can say with certainty that the only thing that would change our general approach to the game dev is if we lose so many patrons that one or both of us have to seek a day job. Otherwise, we will keep the approach we have right now, which is trying as much as we can to take all the criticism and feedback, evaluate them, see if we can apply them to the next update, and make the best version of the game we're capable of. It doesn't mean you will necessarily like the outcome since after taking this long, people's expectations will be over the roof, but that's the plan anyway.

- We didn't give a 'bigger' update promise. Again the exact opposite of it, in fact. As I said above, in response to another post, we said we will try to reduce the number of quests to speed up the development, but in the case of the Main Story, we couldn't do that without making the thing feel horribly unfinished. If by the promise you mean the word count I posted a few days ago, I didn't know that until the day I announced it. In fact, I was frustrated about why it's taking me so much more to pose scenes, and after seeing that there are way more words in 0.5 compared to 0.4, I felt relieved that it wasn't because I was getting worse at it, but because there were more words. Now, if you see that as some kind of tactical promise to keep people interested, I'm afraid I can't change your mind. I have nothing against posting teasers (after all, we're making a game to entertain people and not just for the two of us at home) and giving value to the patrons who support us and make it all possible, but we've been trying since day one to be as transparent and ethical about all our practices as possible.

- Lastly, about whether the quality justifies the quantity and the wait, I think that's ultimately up to each player. At this stage, I can only control the quality.

I don't know what you mean by heavier non-canon fetishes, and I'm not too familiar with Milfy City's approach, but the hidden images in the game are 'photos' taken by an in-game character so, although we're more flexible with them, they have to somewhat make sense.

Once the game will be complete, if the creators will start a crowdfunding for a sort of physical edition (maybe a decorated USB key with the game and a little artbook, or something like that) I would buy for sure

So does anyone know when the next update should be? :)
When it will be ready :geek:
Jocking...creators never provided an estimated date (also with previous updates) until they are fully sure the game is ready to hit that date (and in my opinion this is a good move...no sense to set a date with anticipation with the risk to fail...also considering the update is in constant evolution and sometimes they had to change, review, trash and redo...usually the announce the date a week before the release (for patreons. Non Patreons have to wait only one more day)
My personal opinion, considering the update progression in their discord page, is that game may be ready between August and September

If I'm remembering my porn games then the milfy city hidden photos always sucked, half the time it was just some random army woman sat on a jeep or something. If you want to do cosplay related spin off pics then at least include the story characters in those costumes otherwise i'm not seeing the point of them

hey MN i heard you want to remake story because the current one had some problems integrating new stuff you want to put in, how much different new story might be from the old one, and if the same writer is working on new one, if its the same writer doing changes then i would feel a little bit safer to try new one one when it comes out

Yes, but what I mean by flexible could be completely different from what you have in mind. What fetishes are we talking about?

...
usually the announce the date a week before the release (for patreons. Non Patreons has to wait one or two week more)
...
We release the game publicly the day after it is given to patrons.

hey MN i heard you want to remake story because the current one had some problems integrating new stuff you want to put in, how much different new story might be from the old one, and if the same writer is working on new one, if its the same writer doing changes then i would feel a little bit safer to try new one one when it comes out
I don't know where you heard that, but I'm guessing it wasn't from us since it's completely false. In the first place, there's nothing wrong with the part of the main story that's currently in the game (from the prologue all the way until Serena's scene in the tent). The 0.5 update continues that story and does not rewrite/fix it. And the team hasn't changed.

If I'm remembering my porn games then the milfy city hidden photos always sucked, half the time it was just some random army woman sat on a jeep or something. If you want to do cosplay related spin off pics then at least include the story characters in those costumes otherwise i'm not seeing the point of them
You got the wrong Game thats Man of the house cosplay cards.

Nothing specific just fetishes outside the ones on the gallery thats all nothing too crazy.

You are correct. The game was good if half arsed towards the end but i never got why it had the random pics that often weren't even erotic

To get back on the topic of this game. Cosplay is simple. Myrtle as red riding hood due to the wolf for example. Not that the current hidden pics are lacking in any way

Ah, thanks for correction...probably mistaken with something else as usually creators leave some days between patrons and not patrons release...well, that's even better then
