That's funny I remember saying the development pace on this was a joke and getting flamed to kingdom come for it.

All the "let him cook" fanboys in all these threads need a long hard reality check.
Completely agree but let them. Fan bois gonna fan. They can keep paying to wait. I don't know about you but generally if I'm going to wait for something I'm paying for then I better either be getting capital gains or dividends. They're brainwashed by the copium and dopamine withdrawals as they justify it in their mind why they keep putting in money but not getting faster updates.

But yeah let them keep hugging their fav character body pillows while the rest of us just come back when it's finally updated and play for free without a care in the world while they can sit here white knighting the forum for any potential attacks to the games honor.

Imagine flaming developers of early access porn games because they're taking too long. They've found a way to make money while the entire tech industry is getting laid off around them. There are thousands of other games you could be playing while you wait, and no one is forcing you to pay anything. I don't pay for any porn period (in this economy?), but if you do, you are doing it to support the creators, NOT to access the game faster. People seem to think more money = faster development. Why the fuck would any indie developer, let alone a porn game developer CHOOSE to spend their money on releasing their game faster? When the game is finished, people don't have a reason to support them anymore unless they decide they like their next game too. Therefore, it makes sense that some of these games will likely never be finished, or at least not for a VERY long time. They are essentially live service porn games. Summertime Saga could keep going well into 2054 if DC decides he wants to keep making money. Be mad at the system, not the 1% of developers that have managed to eek out a living doing this. Relax and go play something else while you wait. There's an absolutely absurd amount of good games coming out right now anyways, how y'all have the time to wait around for something else is beyond me.

The way you've describe it makes it seem more flame-worthy...

If a developer is clearly milking a game (Summertime Saga for example), of course people are gonna call it out (lucky for DC he has a rabid fanbase who will find where you live and kill your family if you dare speak ill of that game!). Calling it out won't do much for a lot of developers, but some of them will respond.

Is WaL guilty of the same behaviour? I don't honestly know. If it's a couple, and they've had a kid during the development period, then it's gonna impact development by fucking months! If you take the typical development time of the better titles here and add "fucking months" to that, you get where we're pretty much at right now with this game, so it's probably bordering on a legitimate extension of the typical development time.

But in the end, it's up to the subscribers to do something if they aren't happy, but if they're happy, then the developer's happy, then so be it. I definitely agree that the mindset of lot of subscribers isn't that they are paying for a game, it's that they are supporting a developer who makes games.

That's exactly what they're all doing, irrespective of their mindset.
It's the literal definition of a patron, none of them are a customer purchasing a product.
There is no consumer law here, no-one is entitled to a refund if the product is faulty, they just have to wait for a bug-fix. Same boat if it never gets delivered. They did not purchase a product, so there is no valid claim for recompense if it doesn't.
If they're unhappy their only course of action is to withdraw their support.
The majority seem to remain happy.

how is this "abandoned" if the dev releases updates every week on patreon
No they don't, they post a "weekly report" every week. By that logic games like Offcuts are still not abandoned, because dev still promises to release new version "soon" and posts on their patreon. And that game didn't see an update for 5 years now.

you should be smarter and give your money back because they just took it out of your wallet for some tiny content and a chance to talk about it. All that remains is to pretend that the game still has some chance of release. Take a look at the forum here, every second game starts with version 0.0.0.1 and is updated by a nanometer in six months. some just refer to some problems with the engine or something else...
It's about a case where one of your favorite artists suddenly "breaks" his arm and sends someone else's photo of a broken arm

2 years for a side character is crazy and its not like they announced some huge setback in the development and the kids aren't going anywhere so if thats the reason then its now a 2+ year dev cycle per update for the foreseeable future im sorry but theres just no point in following this game with that kind of turn around. I see people mention summertime saga in comparison to this but that atleast is pretty much a complete revamp of the game from top to bottom.
