Ren'Py - What a Legend! [v0.7.05] [MagicNuts]

Great combination of porn game, fairy tale and comedy, with gorgeous drawings. The hero is a loveable loser (sometimes a bit too much emphasis on the "loser" part) who always ends up having sex anyways, and the girls are for the most part absolutely beautiful and full of personality.

There's a unique, self-aware sense of humor pervading the story, dialogues and characters that's really charming.

I'm not sure what the gameplay will end up being like. The original release and up to 0.3 had quite a few point&click adventure aspects and let you explore somewhat freely, but 0.4 and especially 0.5 were so linear that they might as well have been kinetic novels. Your dialogue choices are not significant to the story, either - which I'm personally ok with, I don't like to replay visual novels at high speed unless the branching paths are huge.

Linear or not, the content is top quality with a story just serious enough to make you care; hilarious city guards which are both friendly and really dumb; cute girls (although they pretty much all have a strong personality, no shy/submissive types in sight which is a pity since variety is the spice of life); and rather hot sex scenes. The latter are pretty much one animated position with a few facial expressions then the same repeated faster with different expressions, and a final cum animation. I wouldn't mind more positions, because not all of them worked for me from the fapping point of view. However, since the game takes time to build up the relationship with each girl, gradually increasing the sexual tension, fucking them feels really special. It's not one of those game where girls just jump on you after two lines of dialogue.

Honestly there's nothing to strongly dislike. I wasn't enamored with at some point of the story, although they've used a humorous visual trick that makes it less likely to cause offense. It still was unpleasant imagination-wise. I also thought that it would be nice for the hero to take charge sometimes, for instance by moving in for a kiss or taking the initiative to touch the girl. I would make the relationship seem more real by matching a bit closer most guys' successful dating experiences. As it is the hero pretty much gets sex by being helpful... usually a good ticket to the friendzone if that's all you do.

Overall though, very unique and highly recommended.

Just an awesome game, very much worth supporting on patreon. Feel somewhat like an old quest for glory graphics mixed with porn. Two thumbs up, the only negative being it takes a while in between releases. Will be an absolute topshelf game on completion.

As one of the best rated games on the site, I have to say I expected amazing things going into What a Legend, and I think that may have been where the issues started for me.

Before I go into why it lost a star, let me preface by saying that there is a lot of good here. The 2D animation is top quality, the ui and design is well thought out, and though the story tends to generic fantasy tropes, it is competently written, and doesn't have grammatical errors that are going to break your immersion. So a lot of good things are happening here, that automatically are going to push this into the top 25% of VNs.

The problem for me was that there was no hook. I won't mention other VNs in my review, but pretty much everything else at this lofty of a tier is doing a lot more narrative heavy lifting.

If you are a fan of generic fantasy vanilla, then refer to all the 5* reviews and my own positive comments above, you'll have a good time here.

I don't think narratively there is an easy solve (and perhaps it's a problem for so few people that there is no point to trying to solve) but adding some additional and slightly less vanilla tags might help out a bit. At least then if you aren't engaged by the story, the really superb art and animation can pull you through with your chosen kink.

I'm clearly in a minority here, but I thought that while very good...this one is slightly overrated.

To start off with what drew me to the game - the art. This is one of the highlights for me personally. Throughout the entire game the art is done at such a high level. The setting, the characters, the map, the UI, everything. Every little detail has been added, absolutely no corners cut. Really great attention to detail, even down to little things in the UI such as achievement popups and so on, this sort of stuff really makes the game feel complete and polished.

Similar to what many others have said, the art brought me in but the story kept me coming back! This was some really great writing. There's evidently a lot of thought gone into the story, and it has a decent bit of humour sprinkled in, very engaging. I'm looking forward to the rest of the story you guys have to tell, and based on the numerous locations around the old capital which haven't been explored yet, as well as the new capital and a number of other larger locations I saw on the world map, I think we're in for quite the ride! The medieval setting is really well done, and the magical elements I think are quite fitting and not over the top. Realistic is not the right word, but perhaps given the setting believable would be the right one? Nevertheless, very well done!

The H-scenes were very good overall and I thought the animations were done very well. I read some comments saying the older content was of a lesser quality compared to the newer content, and coming from someone who never played the game previously, I couldn't tell one bit. It all seemed really high quality to me. My only critiques would be I personally would've preferred more anal content, and a character or two with a larger ass, maybe even a BBW? Also as some others shared, during the chastity belt reveal I did think there was a chance Simmone was going to turn out trans, which would've been welcomed from myself, but understand it's not for everyone. Perhaps this could be added as part of another character but remain as completely optional content, similar to how the Matchmaker's content remains optional after a certain point. I also noticed there's domination content planned, while I'm guessing that would be with the MC being the dom, I also wouldn't mind seeing domination content where he is the sub. In terms of specific kinks for the sub content, I'd say facesitting, worship and general obedience would be 'safe' ones to go with, with other kinks such as pegging, feet or other stuff being optional. Again, all personal preferences and completely understandable if some of these things are overlooked. It seems like you guys only plan on implementing stuff you personally like and I 100% support that!

Some little things I noticed/appreciated throughout:
- Achievements, while functionally irrelevant were fun and entertaining.
- Sheep easter egg photos were another fun addition.
- UI / UX, inventory, time cycling features were all really well implemented.
- The explorable area felt a lot larger than it was, I attribute this to the engaging storyline!
- Spelling and grammar was flawless throughout.
- The only bug I noticed were some dialogue animations would glitch at times (cycling too quickly or jumpy). Pretty impressive if you ask me!
- The 'think' feature was a good way off getting the MC to come up with solutions, and even when the first one or two attempts weren't the right thing to do, it never felt like filler content or rushed - it added to the story in some way.

V0.5.01

This game is a gem of a 2d game, everything is done beautifully, the animations are smooth, the girls are all unique in their own way, the story is really interesting and knows it has to be funny and comical for it to be of a hero with a dick of gold.

It's still not completed and while there are some people that are mad with the update times it shows that there is a lot of work behind (and that is a lot knowing it's a 2d game), not like other games that the updates are 10 or 20 minute long and just 3 background scenes.

Adult adventure game with incredible 2d art and animations.

It's fun and weirdly wholesome. It's a fairy tale setting with a magical kingdom, princesses, elves, mysterious forests, and medieval villages. There's a good variety of NPC personalities, like the named guards who are pretty good guys.

Most of the women connect at least a little to the overall story. Players can somewhat choose which order to pursue stories. There are no meaningful choices, which usually is fine but sometimes it would be nice to have alternate solutions, such as not having to steal when it's obvious the MC could have simply asked for help.

Even though the game has a sandbox structure, it's fairly easy to find content. There's even a hint system in case the player gets stuck.

The erotic scenes are frequent enough that they keep things interesting.

this game is beautifully made in almost every aspect, its not finished but its still a great game that deserves 5 stars. not gonna ramble too much as theres already tons of 5 star reviews but keep up the good work!

I went into this game like any other porn media (to fap) but the story and the humor just keep me hooked for more, wishing it never ends, but, like all good things, they'll eventually come to an end which is sad but expected.

Anyways, as of v0.5.01 the game is amazing and it just keeps me hyped to see what will come in the next update, who will we meet and have sex with, who will help us in our journey and who will try to stop us (besides the ones already known).

All in all, the music, comedy, art style and characters are all amazing (more are still to come)!

Fantastic Artwork! The story is easy to digest, fun, not boring. Looking forward for the expansion of story though cities. It'd be a plus to have more game mechanic or customization system. Keep it going buddy! and please don't stop! I have a feeling this will be one of my TOP3 favorite game EVER!!

Version 0.5 - Bonerific. Need I say more?
1) Can play it one handed
2) Sex scenes happen often enough, and with enough diversity that there's always something new. The babes are hot but not carbon copies.
3) Minigame elements are present, but don't take much effort when at full chub
4) No jarring changes of pace, or coitus interruptus
5) Sex scenes can be revisited both ingame as well as in a gallery. Great times
On top of all that the story isn't half bad, it's funny but not stupid. The art is *chef kiss* magnificent. Only downside is having to wait for each update.

A masterfully crafted fantasy game with beautifully created art renders with fun storylines to progress in. There's plenty of content to go through for each character that promises to keep you engaged with the main storyline.

Dev clearly knows what he's doing and has a clear, well-thought out plan for how the story should go and how he wants the player to feel. Nothing is ever taken too seriously but still serious enough to warrant giving our attention to play beyond the lewd content

I clearly made a mistake not playing this earlier 'cause I can't remember the last time having this much light-hearted fun for a game, in a sandbox no less. Really looking forward to the next updates

The new update (v0.5) has added a great chunk of content to the game with funny and enjoyable character interactions, beautiful cutscenes and ofcourse very well made scenes. Big props to the team! Keep doing what you are doing, as it's been stellar so far.

My review of What a Legend! [v0.5]

A game with beautiful hand-drawn artwork and decent writing, but the story is unfortunately bog standard and the gameplay mainly consists of boring fetch quests, that require you to constantly check the hints screen on where to go next.
The humor in this game (like having an endless bag of gold coins and never being able to use it) also isn't my thing.
Being only a few hours long and updates taking forever doesn't exactly help either.

Overall a highly-overrated game that is only above average because of its beautiful artwork.

A truly phenomenal game, perhaps my favorite on this site. The art is fantastic. Not only are the sex scenes really well done, but the character designs are also excellent and varied. The best part of the game has to be the setting/background art! It really creates the sense of a vibrant and magical world... Some of the spots are extremely cozy looking too. The writing is also genuinely hilarious; the plot is compelling and is progressing at a satisfying rate every update. Keep up the good work!

Lots of new characters and style. I love the characters of the ladies. Dev has the same taste as I have. I also like how all the visual details are finalized properly. No flaws.

Minimum requirements for writing are not very high on porn games. It's ok, many of us are happy with it, we are looking mainly sex scenes. And forget the whole game next day.
Story telling in this game hit's the sweet spot, I liked it very much, it match perfectly with visuals. Story should have in porn genre twinkle on it's eye like this have.

The game is just excellent all across the board.

Starting with the graphics, everything about them is awesome. The characters, backgrounds, sprites, animations etc are top notch. Easily the best 2dcg in this site. The attention to detail also shows. There are little details all over the place that make the world feel a little more alive, and shows what's missing from most of the other titles. For example, the flags are waving, the light reflects on the sea, the characters are constantly changing facial expressions and move during dialogues etc. A lot of small things that add up. Really excellent work.

The story is good and very well written, and it's peppered with humour throughout. It's a little more lighthearted than I typically like, but I enjoyed it immensely anyway. The characters are very well written as well, they are distinct and a joy to interact with.

Gameplay is sanboxy, but it's not bad. There is not a chance to get stuck, and if you do there is an excellent in game walkthrough.

Tdlr: Excellent game all around, you should be playing it already instead of reading reviews.

After completing the latest update, I have this feeling that I always get after finishing a great book. I feel lost, empty, didn't know what else to do. And that is how I know this is a great game.

What I love about this game is that it didn't take itself seriously. It's light hearted but makes you feel emotions even though this is a porn game.

And to think that there are only 2 devs working in this game with this kind of quality. It makes my mind blown. The amount of hard work, creativity and dedication put into this is unimaginable.
