What appeals to you in porn games besides the porn?

acting, basically.
in porn when you have any kind of role play premise for the scene the porn actors either phone it in or stop after knocking on the door and saying "did someone order a pizza?"
where as in VN the characters actually LIVE whatever life we give them, and even with the worst writing they never stop 'acting' after getting their dick out.
the difference kinda makes all porn essentially vanilla, there's no real effort to sell any of the kinks that are supposed to be the theme. so if you actually wanna see something like a priest fucking the nuns, you go for a game or VN where the characters actually live those lives before and after the fucking. which is like 100x better.

Not necessarily. I've only been able to lucid dream once, and that was like 15 years ago. What I typically do is lay in the dark and let my imagination run wild. Eventually, my daydream fades as I lose consciousness. Sometimes the daydream transitions into an actual dream, but I never have any control over it, and it's often times unrecognizable to the fantasy I had prior to falling asleep.

I wonder why did you make story and characters into one option?
I can like good story, but imo. it is not necessary to have any story to have good characters, resp. dialogues, banter etc.
(currently re-playing umpteenth time, optimizing playthrough) Dungeon of Lulu Farea has no/ hardly any story, but characters/ dialogues/ general writing ability is really good/ hilarious/ enjoyable. That game is also good example of "gameplay" being important to me.
I voted "other" for: I like very much when I can notice some extra care or "love" has gone into making the game.
When in Eiyuu Senki all them little battle-/ worldmap-/ listing- comments exist/ and are voiced/ and are so nicely in-character, resp. help fleshing the character.
when in MGQ-paradox there are a billion lines that will only happen when you have so-so in the team-of-8 while talking to other-so-so or certain NPCs (the one reason to play with that scientist angel).
Also all them ~100 or what characters have several idiot-actions (when making them job:"gadabout" or otherwise causing "playfulness"), and while only some of them are funny or outright hilarious, all of them are nicely/ adorably in-character.
Yeah, I am aware that this is not sth. you can expect to have often, actually I think the guys at Torotoro are absolutely insane / it is a 1-in-a-million miracle that that game actually made it to release.
But already little things in this regard can raise appreciation a lot. Little extra things that were not necessary, but add.

one thing I dislike, and actually quite sometimes find myself caught in, is bad balance of gameplay or story vs. lewd. Of course sometimes I'm interested more in gameplay, or story and sometimes I am give-me-the-lewd. Being forced to just one of them for hours before then just-as-hours of the other may result in "meh, gonna look elsewhere".
I am not sure if this can always be avoided, probably only with some certain games/ structures.

Gameplay and story, and gameplay is more important: many visual novels have a good plot, but as games they still remain a bad parody of a teletype tape.
What even is good gameplay when it comes to adult games?

i gave up on playing most of these games for the story because of the nature of monetization they all turn into wish fulfillment(for the fans) and/or milking machines going on forever.
i look mostly for a good mix of buildup/porn, writing is very important for the sex scenes and few devs get it right.

making an actual game with good gameplay is extremely hard and time consuming, devs here don't have the time/budget for it, most devs here are one guy or a very small team.

Gameplay in Porn Games I think have an opportunity to be experimental and try things out and still be Viable as a project.
From puzzle games to minesweeper, from slay the spire to vampire survivors clones anything can work if you add a bit of Porn to it, especially in combination with a variety of fetishes.

But, unlike "typical RenPe game", they had a large enough set of commands for the character's interaction[1] with the game world, and the progress through the plot was quite variable.
1. In sexual sense, too. If the author was concerned about working out these aspects, then the game could give different response to, for example, "{NPCNAME}, suck cock" and "fuck {NPCNAME} mouth".
