Major annoyance:

Forced gender-bender. I know TF is a pretty popular fetish but at least 3 times now I've run into a game where it's not properly tagged or mentioned in the description. I have nothing against the fetish, it just isn't my thing and if I find it happens to my character I have the same reaction to it as NTR-haters to hardcore unavoidable netorare halfway through the game. I was just reminded of this by The Fixer. Could you ever tell from the description that the MC is MtF? I couldn't.

But by far the most egregious example I've come across is Interns of Ecstasy Island (it wasn't properly tagged or described initially, still isn't properly tagged for forced TF imo). I don't think I've ever been angrier at a game, especially with the "you're fucked now, Game Over" bad ending you get if you outright refuse to accept the transformation.

Most annoying: games getting tiny updates or super long waits for updates.

Most enjoyable: Games that have a regular update schedule with meaningful updates.

-This may sound petty, but I loathe seeing wildly different character art styles across a game. When it happens, I usually hate a fair chunk of them to the point that it ruins cool character concepts for me; it takes work to make me not instantly fall for an alraune, but god dammit some games out there have managed it. I can deal with various background styles okay, but would prefer not to.

-Any kind of genuine rape, especially if it's clearly terrifying/traumatizing one party. Don't get me wrong, I'm cool with monster girl '''rape''' stuff, despite the name it's usually consensual or even desired ingame by both parties, but it freaks me out how common straight up rape is. Similarly, mindbreak. Again - I'm cool with the 'kinda questionable' stuff - but raping someone until they break is enough to ensure I never touch the game.

-I absolutely fucking HATE dialogue systems with hidden right/wrong answers that work off of moon logic bullshit, especially if they decide endings. I'm fine with meaningful consequences for my choice. I'm fine knowing my choices don't matter if it means a bit of flavor text from a choice. But for fuck's sake, don't give me a game over or shitty ending because I didn't know to pick the correct dialogue choice during a casual fucking picnic 4 hours ago.

-Anything related to QTEs is enough to probably make me uninstall, honestly. I've hated them since RE4 and then especially God of War 1 made them explode in popularity, and my hatred has only intensified since then. They're fucking annoying and usually don't even work right in my experience.

-Hey, want to progress with the girl you like? Fuck you, go grind for 2 hours to finish some annoying bitch's content instead.

-Shitty combat system with bad UI? A pox upon your house.

+If you make a character feel like a person instead of a walking hole, we coo, I'll probably keep playing your game.

+Humor is hard, as I've learned the hard way, but I love games that have shit that makes me smile or outright laugh. They don't even have to be good jokes, just lighten the mood sometimes (if appropriate) and I'm down!

+Good battle system can excuse a looooot of other stuff. It's rare, and hard to justify in a H game (props to MGD for making a lewd-battle system that actually made sense), but if I'm actually having fun playing a genuine game, I'm sold.

+I don't know what the sweet spot is, but regular updates are fantastic, so I don't have time to forget about your game.

+Just be fucking honest with me dude, if the update is delayed, cool, whatever. Don't feed me a cement mixer full of bullshit.

- NPCs that have one line that is a heavy info-dump. Like I get it, if you have maps you want to populate them somewhat... But don't create walking signposts.
- Infodumps.
- Moronic choices that give you no idea what they affect. Would you like tea or coffee? Tea: harem ending. Coffee: BAD END HAHAHHAHAHHAHA.
- RPGM combat. Combat without a spatial component is absurd.

+ Oh I don't know... Like good writing and shit, good art, good story.

I agree that having a character just monologue a huge paragraph of info is a poor choice. The player is unlikely to remember all of that. Its much, much better to have it as a back and forth dialogue, especially with the MC asking questions that the player would probably have.

Also, I'm glad to see this thread bumped. Things like this are always interesting.

Back and forth dialogue does make exposition more palatable, but the whole MC asking questions that the player would ask should really only happen if the MC is genuinely new to the setting, like if it was an Isekai setting, but if the MC was asking basic questions about a world they grew up in, it would be just plain weird (imagine if Cloud in FF7 was asking questions about what a Mako Reactor was. The player might not know, but Cloud sure as hell should know already.)

Well, I can see that. But really in any setting where the dev would feel the need to put a bunch of information into the players lap at the start of the game, I think that it can still be helpful. Or perhaps alternatively, there can be a scene before the game actually starts that does this. I've played a few that did a really terrific job of this and make it sexy and fun.

Super Loud music from the start is super annoying.
Shame that dev still don't know how to work with sound and levels.

Figuring out how to lower the volume within games was a huge thing for me a few years ago when I started playing them, lol. Almost none of them have the volume set at an appropriate level, for sure.

Pet peeve: games that are set in college or with a college component, but are completely inaccurate to how they actually work. There's usually only one single "secretary" for the entire school of like 5 students (!?), and the mc almost always refer to the professors as Mr or Mrs.

Well, I think that the main issue on that end is that a lot of devs call it a university, when they really mean for it to be more like a high school. So the whole college deal is more like a facade, anyways. Its even sillier when the students wear uniforms.

But even when it is clearly set up to be a university, I agree with you. A couple lines of text here or there to explain that its the secretary just for this one dept in a large campus would work, and things like that.

Life is too bitter, and I'm in a good mood so I'll only post what I enjoy in porn games:

1. Breeding. I love games where my MC can impregnate every girl he meets.
2. Incest, especially mom.
3. A young boy/man acting as the Man of the House.
4. The holy combination of the three bullets above: a young man takes over his family and impregnates every girl in the family.
5. "Loli" games. Of course they are all over 18!
6. Playing a "Sexual Asshole: Blackmail, abuse, rape and generally act as a complete bastard. No live girls were harmed during the rendering of this game.
7. Sleep sex: completely silly and unrealistic, yet super hot.
8. Silly groping: oh, you want help with Yoga? Sure mom! How about suntan, let me give you a hand with that!

Basically, the bad:
- Bad art/graphics. Huge turn-off, won't even install.
- Bad animations. Personally, I'd rather not have them and add them later. But half-assed works outside a beta version... no-no.
- Grinding. If I want to grind, I'll play Korean MMOs that are experts in this field. I'd rather do some meaningful quests or dialogue choices that will culminate in scenes with girls than collect stuff or do the same activities all the time (and most games only allow you to do thos actions at specific times and places) until you get the magical value to unlock a scene.
- Reusing HS2/DAZ popular models. I get that they can be like honey to attract players, but if they don't have substance (story) behind them, why would I play a game with them? There are many others out there with the same models.
- Forcing the player to go through a girl arc to unlock another girl. That is one of the worse offences - if I don't want a relationship with girl X, why do I have to go through her to get girl Y?!?
- Sameface/samebody. If they all look the same, why not have just 1 girl?
- Obligatory minigames. Unless they're fast and easy, don't put them there or make them secondary.
- Hidden trap choices. If a decision at point A will make girl Z locked out, please tell me that.
- Not having a gallery. That's pretty much obligatory nowadays - If I like a scene, I want to watch it again without resorting to keep a separate save just for that.
- The lack of hints, unless the game is quite obvious on what to do.
- Distorted body proportions/huge dicks and breasts. There are games with body proportions so bizarre it kills the sexiness (like torpedo asses), or big balloons on girls and ship masts on boys. I've seen game devs saying dicks must be bigger than reality to make them more visible... ok, but they don't need to be long as a broom or thick as a tree!
- Unskippable cinematics. Ugh, no.
- No 'skip time' button. Those games force the player to do activities/visit places to pass the time period (i.e. morning to afternoon). In 2022, not having one is absurd.

The good is, well, the opposite of the bad. Some thoughts on a bunch of them:
+ Good art/graphics. If it's 3D and uses rare or unique models, kudos!
+ Good story. This one makes reusing popular HS2/DAZ models more acceptable.
+ Cast diversity that allows avoidable choices. Give us a bunch of gals to bang, but let us choose whom to do. This creates replayability right off the bat.
+ Transparent and honesty choice system. Choices should have consequences, but this is a game and not real life - I'd like to know beforehand if a decision would be detrimental to the girl arc I'm pursuing.
+ Focus on good combat or quests or dialogue choices instead of grind. They are more organic and impactful than going to the gym every day in the afternoon to get STR 4 and unlock a girl that likes muscles.
+ Hints, maps, and other QoL stuff to aid the player in doing what he needs to do. No cryptic stuff unless in puzzles, pls!
+ Good body proportions. You know, breasts that aren't bigger than the girls' head.

Speaking of RPGM, a lot of games have this really annoying thing with the text system where you're pressing the button to make the text appear instantly (because for some godforsaken reason, so many devs don't use instant text, you have to wait for it to crawl into existence or press a button to display it instantly) (...)
I guess they want to simulate JRPGs where the same happens.

So, the good:
- 2D art. Bonus point if it's a parody and manages to keep the original's art style (or in the case of things like HP parody, as long as I can guess the character without being told who he/she is). I don't really enjoy 3D, but that's a taste thing, so 3D isn't 'the bad'.
- Games that give you a certain amount of freedom, be it in the way of having a map, or just give me choices to decide what I want to do first.
- Kinda relating to the above, text or UI-based games, easiest type to give the player a large amount of freedom without being limited by the art.
- Various body types in games (but within reason, no balloon boobs or horse dicks, unless that's a centaur), both male and female.
- Exhibitionism games where the focus is on the exposure and the risk, not the intercourse. Too bad I haven't seen many games like this, and the ones I've found are all against f95 rules, lol.

The annoying:
- Grinding. Oh man do I love Akabur games, but I remember giving up and just go to sleep the first time I played Witch Trainer. I just use cheats afterward. Same with Summertime Saga, apart from the first time, I just cheated and got the whole stats and money grinding out of the way before doing anything else.
- Dialogues that break immersion. Like, I get that a certain amount of porn logic has to be applied, but sometimes it's just too much.
- Games where the sole purpose of dialogues is to pad the play time before showing the sex scene.
- Out of proportions boobs and dicks.

For me, as long as its not completely monotonous and repetitive (the exact same thing over and over with no changes), the grinding in some games actually adds to the sexiness for me. It leads to build up, if you're gradually unlocking new things bit by bit, especially the first time through a game when I don't know what the end result is going to be. Sometimes that can get me going more than some of the actual sex scenes, honestly.

How do you bypass this if there are a lot of characters involved, with only say a month to update? Render times and set building are some of the most time intensive things with the 'modern/current' way of creating these smutnovels so it's all about having to dedicate time to specific things - that or everyone gets a small bit of something and that isnt enough?

Depends on genre. If it's a different setting than the contemporary one, it could be thematic and useful to do a little bit of world building and exposition dump at the start. Things like Sci-fi, cyberpunk, fantasy, etc. There are certainly other ways to do it, like interweaving world building throughout the story using things like background radio broadcasts, TV news, and dialogues between characters. That said, it is a valid tool to get people antiquated with the setting.

"2022. The third World War started by Vladimir Poopin has devastated the planet. Facing the threat of extinction from nuclear fallout, humanity retreated underground, forming self sufficient communities." Oh wait... I think this exists already.

If it's some slice of life set in a contemporary setting, the worst fucking way to start is to go over the MC's entire life story.

"My name is John McShlong. I came back home after graduating from the Technical Institute of Sleep Moslesting. This is my mom. She is a lovely woman. She has huge tits and is a gentle woman. When I was young, my dad left to get some milk and never came back. We had a hard time. I had to be the man of the house at a young age. My cock grew 12 inches because of all the responsibilities like doing chores. And this is my older sister. She is a bitch. Bla bla bla." It's a pretty clear sign of a poor writer.

Dad leaving for milk instead of cigars is a pretty original concept! Bravo! :geek: :ROFLMAO:
