Hi Everyone, I wanted to get peoples opinion on the new trend of AI CG. I have been playing VN for over 7 years and recently I find that many new VN's are being created using AI. I have my personnel opinion on the subject but was interested to get other peoples views and thoughts on this new trend. Hope everyone is having a great day and I look forward to reading your thoughts.

*Predicted it blowing up ages ago, its merits vastly outweigh its demerits after all. Companies and everyone else were bound to jump on it.
*It's here to stay no matter how much people cry 'bout fingers or whatever.
*Will only get better at everything in time, eventually will be better than anyone at what it does.
*Will be used in many more different fields, not just graphics and writing.
*Etc.

I use AI for everything related to art because my only actual talent is writing and I like doing little freebie projects, lol.

I wish I didn't have to. For what it's worth I try to not have it look terrible.

Personally, if I see AI art all over something, it tells me that the creator doesn't really care about it all that much. And if they didn't care about the art that much, what's to say they haven't put any effort into other areas of the game?

I'd rather play a text-based game than one with AI art. One game knows where it's weak and decides to focus on it's strengths, and the latter tries to, for lack of a better term, fool you into thinking there is effort where there isn't.

I despise it. Ignoring the obvious ethical and legal problems, it is the most lazy, boring way of creating slop.

I would rather see an awful drawing made by someone who tried to make art, than some computers nonsense.

While I am okay with this site hosting this content, I am very grateful for the option to filter it out.

Human art is 100% better, but i'm no artist and i'm too broke to pay an artist so i'm glad AI has given me a way to make games when i otherwise wouldn't have had the chance.

You see your first 1,000 AI generated images and the allure drops off a cliff. The best AI generated art is just straight up copying the exact artwork a real artist did, it's just applying a filter or style on top of it, no different than an instagram filter applied to a photo.

My honest opinion, AI is overhyped and this is the best it's going to get for a while. You can train AI to copy good looking artwork or create some aberration of combined artworks, but what makes artwork good is not the mathematical arrangement of colored pixels on a canvas but the translation of an interpretation of 3D reality into a 2D space. AI is terrible at generating characters with proper proportions and creating art with proper perspective. The untrained eye might see pretty colors and big tits and get distracted momentarily, but the more of that you see over and over again, you start to pick up the flaws and soullessness of AI art.

Will AI develop to the point of integrating aspects of a human soul? Artists may use AI to create a new type of Art, new perspectives, new creative avenues. AI can serve as a tool for artists to explore new possibility of the art and push the boundaries of the Art itself. Currently I agree with the statement on no soul in the AI art but will this evolve once the real Artist “Art” is available for the AI to copy it?

Everything else aside I just hate the "style" almost everyone chooses to use. I know the code itself can do much more, but the vast majority of "ai cg" tagged works here have this weird "porcelain doll" look to them, sometimes overly glossy but not always, and I wouldn't like it even if a human artist produced something similar without any of the moral issues or obvious errors. To my knowledge you can't really make "paper dolls" or 2D animation rigs either (I mean proper ones not distorting the image like a fisheye lens) which further limits viability in games specifically.

Tool how? AI art generation isn't designed to be a tool. It's designed to be a total replacement. This argument has never once made sense to me. It's not a better hammer to build a house with, it's the house being built for you. Just because it currently fucks things up and is a bit finicky, doesn't change its intended purpose.

Anyway, I see AI art as just sad. Beyond whatever moral or ethical issues it may have, it's going to kill many up and coming artists. Why would they bother spending years upon years learning and growing their own skills if a program can do it better in seconds? I see it with chatgpt as well. The phrase "I asked Chatgpt" has come up more and more, as if people can't think for themselves anymore. This shit is outright dystopian and it fucking sucks.

I don't know exactly what to think about it. It can be used as a tool but can be used as a substitute too. It all depends on the point of view. I see AI art as a sad thing too because it can and probably will kill many artists but at the same time the remaining ones will be better recognized if they are truly competent. I don't really know what to expect about it.

I would like to see AI get better at interpreting the creators intentions, especially when it comes to NSFW. ChatGPT is shockingly good at trying to figure out what you are asking it or what you want it to say, most art generation programs aren't 1/10 as good at interpreting user input.

I disagree, i am able to get scenes rather specifically how i want them if i put in a little extra work, i have even drawn sketches for use with image to image. if i have to put in work to get the result i want it's a tool not a gift.

You are such a Doomer, AI isn't going to kill artists. machines can never replace human craftsmanship, machines have been doing human art for a long fucking time, pottery, glass blowing, carving, engraving. but you still pay a premium for anything done by human hands and the crafts aren't dead. i'm not using AI for my game as a replacement for an artist, i just couldn't pay an artist to begin with. if i had the money i would still be commissioning human artists for art i wouldn't be using AI.

Google came out in 1998, Chatgpt is literally just an upgraded Google algorithm. chill the fuck out, drink some tea, and listen to some jazz, everything will be alright it's not dystopian.

This is just blatantly wrong. Google, at least the old one before general enshittification, did involve a text comprehension module but ultimately the results provided to the users were authentic content from external sources. The way a lot of people casually use ChatGPT they rely on the direct output, which sometimes pretends to be sourced externally but isn't in the slightest. "AI" in the form it's being hype-marketed right now IS NOT REAL AI! It's essentially an extremely sophisticated autocomplete-like guessing game. It does not "understand" the subject it is made to "talk" about, or even basic abstract grammar rules for that matter. In order to call ChatGPT "just an upgraded google algorithm" you'd have to exclusively ask it for links to websites and then actually visit those websites instead of just reading/copy-pasting ChatGPT's own attempt at a summary or whatever else it gives you.

I have not found ChatGPT to give wrong answers yet, for example i use ChatGPT for Renpy coding questions and the code always works.
