What do you hate about porn games and what makes a good porn game!

l know there are other similar topics like that but l'm mostly looking at what others think a good porn game is and what makes a bad one.

It's a funny because really they are just porn games we all know why you play them , but even though that's the case even a porn game can be hit by my (shitty) critical view and there are things that annoy me or anger me.

Like so for all games:

Grinding: Now grinding isn't the 'AHHH NOOO this game bad' but to much of it can make a game seem tedious and really really forgettable (story and fun time wise) and while this is a problem in RPGM games I've seen it in Ren'py to.

Spacing between scenes: l can't tell you how many times l quit a game because of how long it took to get to the next scene and the story wasn't enough to save it.

Copy paste: Meltys Quest and Yorna are two games that hit this spot as l played Meltys Quest first and then Yorna and it honestly seemed more like a copy paste and not its own game (ldk which came first but I'm gonna assume Melty cuz Yorna is still updating).

To quick: This may seem a bit stupid considering l just bitched about spacing between scenes but come on, how is it that 1 second some girl wants nothing to do with you then all of a sudden she spreads them legs after ..... fuck ldk find her a teddy bear or something, look the point is that's way to fast.

That's about all l can think of at this time but what do you guy's and gals think, do you agree, do you have anything more to add or is there something else that annoy's you???

I won't rant too much about the things I dislike. But what I want more than anything is control over the pacing.

Give me a sandbox or semi-sandbox where I can choose which things I do next from a map and/or list of available options, and then often repeat the sex scenes again and again after I've seen them. Even if there aren't any choices that actually effect the story, that's completely fine. That way I can move the story along in chunks as I see fit, and visit the various sex partners in between those scenes as often as I like to keep it hot and fresh. And then character cards for everyone, ideally with them showing how much I've progressed with each girl so far.

Far and away, that's the number one thing that I look for. Even if a one-directional VN is of the highest quality, I often find myself losing interest when I can't control it at all.

My personal favorite retort is so some variation of 'why don't you make something?', an argument so idiotic that it demands those who make it not be allowed to reproduce. Notice, nobody ever makes the demand that 'only creators are allowed to have opinions' whenever someone is being positive about a project they like...

Anyway, I hate mean spirited games. I actively seek out games with a good-natured tone and will be fine with all sorts of kinks that aren't my usual preference if it's all fun.

Acting lessons nearly got me emotional. I bought it on steam and that event caused me to stop playing for nearly two days while I processed it. AMAZING GAME

OKAY - Minor Rant forthcoming--------
I think the one thing that will set me off (other than my tags that are non starters in the first place) is when a dev puts a click box on for you to make a choice.....only there is no choice its a single click choice with only one option. An example would be you are putting the moves on a girl and in the middle of the best blowjob when a click box pops up with the word cum........I mean really??? You needed to break my immersion in your game to force me to click a box to cum??? Yeah THAT gets me a bit heated real quick and will instantly cause me to end the game and delete it from my computer.

I think that is a very fair point that you brought up and I completely agree with you, however, I also think "why don't you make something" is a perfectly fair answer to those who say absolutely nothing constructive but complain about the update release times.

Like I get it, some devs release updates every 5.9 months to avoid the abandoned tag and to continue milking unsuspecting patrons, but then there are devs that solo work on the game, have their own lives, probably have a job and have explicitly stated that this is a hobby project for them, AND still release sizable content after fair and promised intervals.

When a game is bad, it's not because of one single thing that corrupts the rest of the game. It's the result of many poor decisions overlapping to create a frustrating experience.

But personally, what I hate is a story crammed down my throat. You have to earn the player's interest in the story, not force them to watch it.

Depends really. I don't like too much grind. I don't take joy in endlessly being busy corrupting a character for the sake of corruption.
I am sure some like that. Not me.
So i prefer a straight path with some outcome. My lifetime is too short to wait for a game to be finished in 20 years time.

Spacing between scenes:

Same as above. It shouldn't be too quick obviously but if there is some explaining to do, or the dev wants to draw you in into the circumstances, it is probably ok to have it longer.

Copy paste:

I don't know. I think a lot of games do the same thing more or less. I mean you don't invent the wheel every time new.
If the game itself is copied, like same dialog? Or what do you mean. I don't know the games.

To quick:

Again, depends. A game could start off with sex i suppose but the sex should have a meaning for the story. Or a big catastrophe. Something that makes sense and can explained during the game.
There are some smaller games that are probably not intented to be very long. So these tend to be quicker. Other i had played are for the long haul which isn't what i like. I don't like to spend my time with some porn game forever.

I find most porn games so so.. Not actually great. Render are sometimes outstanding but the stories seem always like...

"you come home after a long hiatous. You mom and dad died. A girlfriend from your past..."
"you find your way into the mafia. Will you rules all the babes too that you encounter"
"you fell from grace and have to find your way"
"it's been a long time since..."

Everytime i read what the game is about, it's more or less something like that.
It is kind of boring. But to be fair, if you are just for the babes, it probably doesn't even matter what you play.
Most stories have not been very convincing on story terms.
But hey, you can be fan of anything. So it's alright.
