Hey everyone, just wanted to see people feed back in genre/concept that you actually play (or want to play) that you hate how its currently being done.

For myself I found 2 genres:
'life simulator games" where every hour is accounted for the day by your actions.
While I like the idea making it feel more life like, it ends up feeling like a clicking simulator rather than one generated by actual real choices and consequences. Too many paths require repeatable clicks for the same action with little variation. This game genre could be fun, but I think you would have to put a ton more paths in the game to really take advantage of the freedom.

The second is the sissy game. The genre seems devoid of actual choices, which I get is kinda the point, but if that's the idea then why wouldn't you make it a kinetic novel rather than a choice based game or life sim? The other issue is that most of these games have the EXACT, same, plot. Guy loses GF, gets shamed by older woman, gets caged, gets pegged, gets feminized, has sex with black dude, the end. Only make this plot take 12 hours to get through. Like maybe give choices of different potential end partners, maybe you want to end up as a lesbian, or how about with the best friend character you always start off having?

Also quit teasing sex with characters that will never happen. I don't care what genre game your in, if you tease it, you should have a path in it where it happens.

life simulators - don't even try to build one unless you plan to start competing with EA games (I am referring to Sims).
You should always think about these "life sim" elements as fillers and should add only as much as you absolutely must (to slow the game down a bit, build some anticipation between sex scenes, ect.) To make the life sim aspect as a core mechanism, you would need to make it fun which would be an extremely hard endeavor (not to mention expensive). For example, I develop a game where you will only have up to 3 actions during the day - morning and afternoon as "day" actions and slightly different actions for the evening - but that is it.

Regarding sissy games, I only have a limited experience, but that was actually different than what you described - I played Earn Your Freedom.
That being said, I disagree with your argument. As I understand you either want no choice at all or a complete sandbox game and nothing inbetween. I don't see a problem having games only some choices - no need to force in meaningless things just for the sake of it.

Regarding teasing, could you give me an example, because I have never met this problem. Maybe the sex is coming in future versions?

My argument is that if the game has no actual choices that matter, then you shouldn't give the illusion that there are choices that matter. (Like a worse version of a taletell game) For instance in a sissy game you might have "do you want to wear the chasity cage?" (yes/no) you choose no, the game will now yell at you every day that you are not doing what the game wants, and the story won't progress till you do. I would say these are one off scenario but it keeps happening in every single game of this genre. If there is no route to go but what the game wants you to do, why even give the illusion of freedom? There are a ton where you also have a strict job/life/school that the MC has to do, which the game will yell at you if you try and do anything else... (maybe I just need to stop playing html games)

For teasing games I am trying to think of specific instances, but it happens so frequent (and I play a lot of games) that its starting to blur together. Usually in sissy games its that a female character flirts with the MC, but nothing ever comes from it, again I get that thats the genre's fault, but I mean really is it? You could be Dom by a female in these games and have it be within that kink still.

I don't think its a future update issue, as I have played more than a few fully completed games of the same genre that do the same thing.

Regarding the illusion of freedom I would normally agree with you, but in sissy games it seems kinda fitting to give you the illusion of freedom - like in reality, the slave or sissy "can" decide not to do what they are told, but it would have consequences, so they are better off just doing what they are told.

OK, so the teasing is in sissy games. Again, I don't have a lot of experience with the genre, but teasing and denial kinda makes sense there. What the devs should improve maybe is to "rub it in" to make it clear that it is part of the game and not just lazy writing.

I'm currently playing:

- a JRPG with RNG and obtuse mechanics, both of which I dislike. It's still one of the best female protag corruption games imo, so I easily overlook the gameplay flaws.
- a deckbuilding card game, again normally not a huge fan of the genre because of RNG, but it varies depending on how cards are drawn.
- a RPGM walking sim with just occasional puzzles and the only freedom being in whether to do the side-quests for more H-scenes. This type of game normally wouldn't even register on my radar, but my fetishes are done pretty well and the writing is strong.

Edit: Okay, the thread title is misleading. When I hear "genre" I think of strategy, RPG, action etc. Not fetishes. "Life sim" is a genre, "sissy game" definitely isn't. It's a fetish or theme that can appear in different genres. I've seen sissy VNs, sissy life sims and a even a sissy card game.

Hi,
if I read you well - you are more concerned about the genre (whatever it may be) to be poorly written and/or implemented than the genre itself.
Which would mean you would hate yourself for playing bad games not for playing game's whose genre you hate.

Which would be a quite normal attitude - only trouble is that really good games are pretty rare - we have to deal with a lot of mediocre turds while waiting for a soul soothing gem...

I will 1000% agree that its not an issue with the genre, but with what most people are doing with the genre.
For instance I know of 3 games with sissy characters or plots that do not feature any of these story beats. (Tales of Androgyny, Sissy Maker, and Taffy Tales.) Where as games like (SQ cruise ship, Sissy trainer, and a few others) have no choices that effect the story and are more a test of frustration than a game.

OK, so are basically saying "why aren't some games as good as others?" or "why are developers making bad games?", right? If yes, I think you know the answer.

The devs try but success is never guaranteed. And often small, beginner developers try to bring in something new and innovate instead of starting to compete with existing big games that follow the actual popular "recipe". I mean, go and compare the supporters of the games in your two brackets - Tales of Androgyny got 5000 patreons and Taffy Tales 4000. Don't expect the same quality from somebody that just started developing game now as a hobby.
Small devs usually start when they either have an idea for something new - which has a rather high chance to fail - or because they want to have fun and express themselves. Don't forget that these games here people make in their free time and give you for free. (When you have to buy something that has easily-avoidable and well-known mistakes, then it is different.)

For god's sake, even AAA games flop. Why would you expect the porn games of one-person devs not to?

If you want change, I think a constructive comment under these games would be more useful.

The title read "What Genre do you hate... that you curently play?", meaning that you don't like the genre, but like the game/story.

But then your first line is :
Hey everyone, just wanted to see people feed back in genre/concept that you actually play (or want to play) that you hate how its currently being done.
Meaning that you like the genre, but don't like the games/stories.

And it's really confusing.

so many things. lack of showing affection between the characters, which I feel would deepen the impact of any dirty story. early sex/dream sex, both of which are like skipping a book to read the last page. dry holes. the plastic look of NGV8.

teen girls and boys using phrases by 50yo old men, like "don't mind if I do". or using big words correctly. 18yos don't go around carrying a thesaurus, unless they're obnoxiously pretentious. (I'm 46 so I can use those without breaking character). in general young characters should use short words and have little to no self-reflection. UNLESS your specific point is making them sound like complete cunts.

never use 'whom' either unless the character is an uptight 60yo baron. in general, be mindful of the tone. I know it's difficult, but you can't go wrong(er) by at least trying.

oh, and never make them say 'shit' during sex unless it's a scat story. and be very careful of your 'fucks'.

***

usual complaints that I'm almost never worried about:

-quality of renders. nice to have, helps to sell, but almost never meaningful to your game. look at comics, there's a vast amount of amazing stuff that's drawn like a 3yo or a mental patient. doesn't matter, and often even makes it better.

-number of renders. Imagine if manara or serpieri made a VN, with 1 single image per event. would still EASILY be better VN than anything we've ever seen here. increasing the numbers isn't pushing your game forward, making more story is.

-'original story'. none of them are, haven't been in 2500 years. don't sweat it. tell the story you like. even if it's "dead dad, wants to fuck the mom", or "a young girl moves to city and gets raped everywhere she goes". cliches become cliches because they work. the 'unoriginal stories' always score the biggest audiences, because people like them. a handful of pretentious snobs don't. genre writing has always outsold high literature by several orders of magnitude.

I'm a pretty big fan of management games. Yet when it comes to adult games I find them lacking sustenance. Adult games and management games should go hand in hand with one another, and in fact a few years ago they did! The issue is that every management game absolutely have to involve brothels or prostitutes. While the two things make sense to combine, it has been done way too often, basically killing adult management games.

Another is the "coma" plot line. While it is a simple and brilliant way to start a game, primarily pov or incest games, they are constantly done wrong. The plot is always conveniently forgotten and ignored following the event.

There is also the slutty character role. I don't believe every character has to be a pure virgin, but I feel like this trope is used in the worse case possible. More often than not this character exists for the sole reason of pushing the story along, or to corrupt other innocent characters. Too many games in which a sweet relationship was building between two characters, along with their sexual desires also growing. The story would have been fine, the progression would have also been fine. Yet the dev introduces the slutty bestfriend, aunt, cousin, sister, etc. who comes in and pushes things along. Causing the pace of the story to be destroyed and in my opinion screws up the once interesting relationship by destroying any actual character development.

I feel like your missing the point of wanting original stories. People want different, not the same game made 80 times. While yes, the cliche does work and there is nothing wrong with them. Yet we want new twists to those old cliche. It is the exact same for every other medium of entertainment. In the 80s you had the big badass guy beating up the bad guy and saving the girl. Modern action movies are the same thing, but with a TON of twists that did not exist in the 80s. That's what people want. Does every game need a bitchy elder sister as a character? No. No it doesn't.

None. If I don't like it, I don't play it. Unless you mean something like individual kinks that I'm willing to tolerate being in the game if it has enough other stuff that I like. I guess the closest I come to this would be games that include kinks that I consider deal breakers but will still play if I know for sure I can avoid it. For instance Futa. If the game otherwise looks good and I'm sure I can avoid the Futa stuff entirely then I might try it. If I'm not sure, then it doesn't matter how good the rest of it is, not playing it. Same goes for any other kink that I consider a deal breaker.

I guess NTR might be the closest to matching your description since in practice it seems to include some things I really like (such as cuckquean) in addition to stuff I really don't like (such as cuckold). So I will risk playing NTR games despite knowing there might be stuff in there that I won't like even if it might be unavoidable. If it IS unavoidable then it would have to have a LOT of stuff I do like for me not to just delete it because of the unavoidable NTR.

For something that's a dealbreaker for me like Futa, stumbling into even 1 scene is an instant delete so it's rare that I'll risk even trying it unless I'm pretty confident that I can guarantee I won't see the stuff I don't like (like if there's a toggle that flat out disables it).

100% agree, even though in the case I was using that was done over and over again, the real issue with it was nothing of interest or twist was done to the formula to make it their authors own. Summertime Saga does the dead dad sleeps with mom+sister trope, but manages to pull it off because the characters are enjoyable and the dead dad plot is actually part of the plot.

Visual Novels. A good visual novel can be fantastic, especially with branching choices and depth of writing, but most of them just end up being dull and lifeless or filled with lackluster animu nonsense.

Probably the dom/rape stuff, whilst i have only played a very small amount its odd since it starts off rapey but then the person suddenly enjoys it and then is like yuh i consent lol lets fuck, i suppose its more like corruption if anything
for comics/animation id say futa but i can only bare it since the face and tits of the dickgirl arent shown so i can use my imagination to pretend its a guy fucking instead

The big thing I want to see in games but seldom see done well are positive non-sexual relationships. You can have a sex game and still have friends and family and coworkers that you don't bang. It seems like if you have a friend, you're taking advantage of them or they are just giving you a quest. If you have a boss, they are probably a dick. If you have a family member, they either hate you or you try to bang.

I want a good wingman that is going to get into shit with me and then get back out. If I'm (secretly?) cool, why isn't my friend? If I'm going through a tough time, I'd like a chance to have a heartfelt scene with someone about it. If anything it's a great chance for exposition and to gather info.

mc "Hey, Dad, glad you called..."
dad "I just wanted to check in on you. It's been a while since we talked. How're things going at work?"
mc "Work is work. It feels like..."
menu:
"I am in a stable job for the first time."
"I'm really starting to get recognized for my hard work."
"I should start looking for something else."
dad "That's great. I'm glad to hear it, son. Are you still seeing Beth?"
mc "We're..."
menu:
"On a break. I really care about her, but we're started fighting about money."
"Over. I just can't do it any more. I think I met someone else..."
"Doing good. I'll tell her you said hi."
dad "Tell you what, why don't the two of you come visit for the weekend. You can take the boat out on the lake and get away from it all. If things don't go well, she can stay in the guest room and you can have your old room. Your mother would love to see you, and so would I."

Sometimes, those things are determinant and the dev likes to use your decisions to choose that dialogue for you. That's probably cool too, but a scene like that makes me feel closer to Dad, opens up a scene with Beth, and gives a pause in the dramatic tension so I can be dragged down the emotional rollercoaster later.

Fantasy RPG where you have to grind your level just to be defeated to see the CG with no new game+ so you have to plan my save or start from 0. I'm just here for the CG.

Also broken MTL if that's a genre, MTL is fine as long as it doesn't translate the game code itself too. It's no fun losing a whole 2-3 hours progress because the code turned into alien texts.

idk, hate is a strong word.

but im disliking the team based games (any genre). Yeah when the teamwork is working its like you're living in Shangri La with flowers falling from the heavens and harps playing, but when its not working, good lord.

as far as the adult games, there was an adventure/platformer game I had started playing long ago but stopped when I realized the person(s) programming it were conflicted with what they wanted the game to be.
