What makes an adult game good for you?

For me, the best aspects of a porn game are the attractive girls, fantastic animations, and interesting fetishes.
Frankly, I don't really play porn games for the stories. While having a decent storyline is wonderful, it wouldn't mean much to me if the scenes weren't there to support it.
And of course, there are factors that influence how much I enjoy the game and how hot I find the scenarios.
Incest is one of the amplifiers, along with threesome, harem, lesbian scenes, etc.
There is no necessity for 99% story and 1% sex scenes, though the fundamental plot must at least be coherent and not chaotic. (you know the games)
Seriously, I'd go play elden ring, witcher 3, etc. if I wanted just good game play and a solid plot.
Also, single-route games don't really appeal to me unless the graphics and animations are excellent and there is at least an amplifier like incest. In other words, the bar is set too high.
They are called adult games for a purpose, so why make everyone blue-balled during the entire game? What is the point if you are soft the entire time?

Clear Conveyance. This is true in all games, but I think it's really important to establish two things immediately when the game begins:
1. What am I trying to do?
2. How do I do that?

1 is generally to have sex, but I think it's a better story when my character has goals that are broader than that. Not that they get in the way, just like, if my goal is *just* to have sex, it kinda removes the tension when that's my goal and I achieve it practically immediately. That kind of coincides with...

for 2, the "how do I do that," I think it's good when there's enough interaction to keep me engaged, but not so much that I have to focus too hard. Tough balance, and I think this is where most NSFW games fail. And I don't necessarily want the game to be "challenging" but I do like to make decisions about my experience. Generally, this means when to pursue each character.

*mimics and gestics and (-changes), that underline the ongoing plot
*diverse characters (not only in body, but even more in personality)
*well written and believable corruption
*good image and scene composition
*not too weird looking characters (for me preferable 3dcg)

my personal dislikes: shota/loli, rape and senseless grind that only helps my RSI-Syndrom to evolve

Realistically, i play them if the H scenes are good and if they tick all my fetish boxes. Storylines can be important to some degree depending on the eroge i am playing, but imo they should always be secondary to the actual adult content. I prefer the characters to be a bit more fleshed out, but i couldn't care less about the 5000 year lore of the story.

Gameplay.

I swear visual novels need to die out.

The thing that makes adult game more interesting the most games is the more realistic approach to story.
Lets face it.
Killing people at random isnt evil.
It is stupid.
And it is the only "evil" your allowed to be in most games.

In porn games i get to truly be evil.
Blackmail, Kidnapping, Mind break, Rape, Incest, Loli, etc.
Likewise because i can be evil choicing to be good has more value.

Let me give you a few example's of adult games i love to play.

Free Cities.
What i like:
I can build a massive city with a culture of my choice, Manage a bussiness, Run armies, Advance technology, etc.
What i dislike.
All slave's have the same personality.

Lab rats 2:
What i like:
The characters.
When i saw the mom folding her clothing, Wanting to move furniture, and behaving like a mother.
I was pleasently suprised.
Here we had a mother acting like a mother.
Same with the rest of the cast.
The dialog chage's depending on there stats.
And the drug systems had a nice challange to it.
Trying to get the best results with the least amount of downside's.
What i dislike is that it is abbandon and the mod while massively improving the game is very railroad heavy.

Superpowered:
What i like:
The mind control system.
What i dislike:
Billy.

All of these games are games first and porn second.
To me a good game has good gameplay.

For example:
Playing a porn game where i spend most of trying to build up my store and brainwash my staff into working for free(or as close as possible giving people need food)
Is far more interesting then a 6000000000 word story about a character i coudnt care less about and having at most 3 branching paths that doesnt change anything(or meaby change 2 sentence if lucky)

In short:
Games need gameplay.
No gameplay.
No game.

Assuming a game has the fetishes I'm looking for and good art, pacing between sex scenes is pretty important. I prefer for unique sex scenes to be spaced enough apart that there is time to take in and enjoy each scene and look forward to the next, but not take so long you basically unlock one scene each day you play it without skipping half the game. They also shouldn't be so close together that don't have time to process each scene before the next, and see half the scenes in one session of playing it.

Another big thing is replay value. I prefer porn games that either have a good enough story and/or sex scenes that I would want to play it again after a while, rather than just quick games I would play once and never again.

Story is of minimal relevance to me usually, though to be fair that's partly just the fact that in most porn games which really emphasize story, the plot and characters just don't click with me at all, or even actively turn me off. So yeah, story is the least important aspect in my book. (As such, I pretty much never touch any kind of VNs.)

But back to the topic: what DO I enjoy? Well, for one, I like it when the porn aspect actually is involved in the gameplay somehow. And I tend to prefer 2d stuff to 3d, though it really depends. A good 3d game that is relevant to my interests and fun to play will of course win out over a tedious 2d game that has no porn that appeals to me.

And preferably scenes should be animated; still images only do so much for me. 2d sprite porn is something I'm a huge fan of. Those 2d platformers with sprite sex are probably my favorite overall genre of porn games. (Theoretically, there are others I might like at least as much, but they're rarely, if ever, done well- if at all.)

I also tend to lean towards games with female protagonists, but I think that's because in the male protag games, the main character is either ugly/unlikable/unrelatable, and/or the whole theme and tone just somehow rubs me the wrong way at some point.

Text adventures CAN be fun when they're done right, but again, a lot of times when they try to develop an overarching story, they tend to lose me. Mostly I just play those kinds of games to try and learn and get ideas for making my own.

Any game that allows for easy modding or creation of custom content is automatically a huge plus.

And I tend to lean more towards more light-hearted, less serious games. (Unless they're more horror-themed, and even those can benefit from some humor thrown in now and then) Ones where maybe the protagonist even kind of occasionally recognizes they're in a game can be fun. (As long as such third-wall breaks aren't overdone/excessive)

DiBS ("Deep in Brixen Space") is a good example of the perfect "tone" for a game, to me.

Finally... fetishes. This is where I'm admittedly a real weirdo. (Stop here if you don't want some probably offputting TMI or are particularly judgey about any fetishes that have tags on this site)

I dislike certain common kinks and fetishes, but I'm also really niche in my own right. For one thing, most of the time I generally find plain human-on-human stuff boring as fuck. If a game doesn't have at least one of several tags (furry, beast, monster, tentacles), I'm probably not going to get anything out of it. And even if it does, I think there should be separate tags for different subsets of monsters, because zombies, orcs, and goblins similarly are of little to no interest to me, and I even find a lot of them offputting. What can I say? I like bestial, and I like weird. (That said, sufficiently twisted and strange humanoids can be interesting, too- like some of the entities in Anthophobia, for example.) At the same time, there are other niche fetishes that I find offputting, that all too often overlap with these. So it's pretty rare that I find a game that fully appeals to me.

I also greatly prefer everyone involved in sex scenes (especially the protagonist) to clearly be feeling pleasure/enjoying themselves, even if reluctantly in some cases.

And now, for fun, here's a screenshot of my default (bookmarked) search on the "Latest Updates" tool, as a summary:

When every sexual scenario in the game is optional, so no sexual scenarios are forced. This allows a player to maintain a consistency of being turned on, instead of having to deal with sex scenarios that cause the player to be turned off.

This is a good one. Along these lines, I know for practical reasons it's not always feasible, but ideally every kink/fetish would be a toggleable option in most games.

If you have a game where the Gay tag doesn't refer to one single scene with a trap/sissy/femboy groping the MC, but a whole gay storyline (I'm not even asking a full gay game) you have won half of the battle. One or two kinks that interest me, and a likeable MC/LIs ... and you have me.

You have to do pretty bad on writing/gameplay to make me drop a game. And if you have some tags like BDSM, Dilfs or bear-like guys, I can play even the worst game ever.

If you wanted to reel me into a game, you would simply need good gameplay and sexual content that is relevant to the gameplay. And maybe a female protagonist too.

On the other hand, I don't care about character development, romance, or similarly related things.

I tried adult games with good gameplay, and honestly, it's amazing. But the most important thing is, it's gotta be hot. If it isn't I would just play minecraft.

In order of importance

  1. Fetishes I enjoy (not gonna play otherwise)
  2. Quality of the writing, especially interactions between characters
  3. Gameplay (there has to be some even if it's mediocre)
  4. Graphics
  5. Sound

I play adult games for the gameplay which may sound ironic but that's how it is, H games can make many interesting mechanics and games if you have creative freedom, just to give a few examples:

-Re:BF is a battle-fuck game, one of the genres that are actually growing on me right now, games like this one and Lilith in nightmare make the combat become quite interesting and fresh.

-Transformation games like Odyssey of Gianna, literally getting into situations in which allies can be mind-controlled and fight against you or be transformed in multiple ways while doing it in a chill way it is really interesting.

-Enemies becoming stronger is another theme that I can't help but find really interesting and fresh, especially when it's related to level/stat drains, a light example of it would be Tower of Alfimia.

-Games with capture system and rescuing your allies, another mechanic that is very interesting for me.

The porn content has to be good and fit my fetishes/preferences. Interesting and coherent story is a plus, same with well written characters, then of course graphics whether 2D or 3D need to be at least not awful.

I avoid porn games with so called 'gameplay' because they're all trash, no exceptions. If I want gameplay there are plenty non-porn games which are 10-100 times better than anything indie porn devs could produce.

Personally I value freedom of choice! Having multiple and different options, characters and genres in the same game.
If I find that in a game I wont mind a bit of grind or reading, because I'll be motivated.
