I am always looking at improving myself and what I can do better. Best way is to learn from others.

What is it that you like/love about below games. What makes em pop for you?

Acting Lessons/BaDik, CoBD, DeLuca Family, Milfy City, Timestamp, Big Brother, A Wife and a mother, Summertime Saga, DMD and Good girl gone Bad for instance?

If I had to sum it up to one bias soaked opinion I would have to say it's the cognitive disconnect between the setting which in most of the examples is a pretty ordinary world with ordinary things mixed with all the lewdness a person could reasonably ask for. Also I'm just a fan of good ol' fashioned taboo. Sorry in advance if this answer was less than helpful, good luck in your quest for a better you.

So kinda fantasy world where you the MC fuck hot women which to most of us do not happen in real life. So there's a bit of real life in there mixed with as you say taboo and "what if I could..."

Acting Lessons- it was good at first(characters and story), but too much drama for my tastes

BaDIK- good immersion(crazy college life), humour, stunning graphics/animations

CoBD- honestly, it feels like i am watching a movie(great story and amazing graphics, especially the stills)

DeLuca Family- great set of believable characters, the story, slow build up

Milfy City- just the graphics and maybe incest :p

Timestamps- Amazing graphics, quirky story

Big Brother- played it for like 20 mins, couldn't handle the grind at that time, also...Eric :rolleyes:

AWAM- very detailed(everyday life of a hot MILF), but i'll probably re-play this once it gets some decent amount of lewd scenes :p

SS- good 2D art(with animations), simple gampelay, not too grindy

DMD- a bit too 'lovey-dovey' for my tastes, the daughter is a bit immature. i guess those are the very same reasons why people like DMD so much. idk. also D's friends look way too young.(so as you can tell i'm personally not a fan but i'll play it nevertheless if i'm ever in the mood for that kind of dad daughter stuff)

GGGB- gives a lot of freedom to the players.

In essence yes however the sex is almost secondary (though still important) when weighed against the concept of a world where common ethics tend to take a backseat to the carnal desires and the almost Machiavellian machinations of whatever protagonist the game laid out for us. To put it bluntly corruption and or incest games are a microcosm of f#%k where the id rules all with the protags outlook taking the form of the combined super ego of the player as well as the creator. Of course I may be way off base and rambling pure nonsense.

Personally I will evaluate the example I know the most, which is Big Brother.

The game started with a good setting, the mother gets a boyfriend, relationship advances and he ends up living with the family.

All that was correct, while not a 5 star development it served to create an interesting situation, the problem of this game started after that point, because some people didnt like the setting and because of that it stopped its own concept midway and let the players just kick him and for him to serve as a content blocker, but the initial premise was good, basically it had development, an interesting gameplay of defeating the rival, while protecting the girls, and an interesting opportunities system that could backfire.

Overall the best games are those that have an interesting premise and they are loyal to it.

But that doesnt mean that all games should be the same, for example summertime saga concept is a laid back game, it tells you to take your time and do what you want, and thats okay, but well personally I find that the game lacks events for certain dates, mainly so that time has value.

Well, there's really few appealing games in the list you gave :

DeLuca Family - The amazing writing capabilities of Hopes. Everything in the game feel real and trigger an emotional response. The characters all have their own personality and there's clearly reasons (mostly still to be explained) behind their said personality. Unlike too many games, it's not an attempt to put together a patchwork of situations imagined by the author, but a fully coherent story from start to the end (at least until now but there's no reason for this to change).

CoBD - Here again the writing capabilities of Philly. Despite being put in a less realistic setting, the story trigger an emotional response, you can't just play the game. And like for Hope's game, it don't just come from the dialog ; everything, from the lighting to the poses of the characters, is in charge of this emotional response.

Summertime Saga - It's the CG, the CG and the CG. They looks like the one you can find in a book for children and tend to send the player back in a happy time. The game mechanism are also part of the reason, there's many grinding parts, but they don't feel like it because there's an effective purpose behind each one, and the react you get from the MC and the character effectively evolve with the time.


For the others, I mostly stand against the flow and never found them this appealing :

Acting Lessons - It's an attempt to write serious dialog and situation, but everything feel out of place. The main story fall on the patchwork side, a bunch of individual situations not linked enough to each others. Which lead to a pacing that feel wrong and a story hard to believe.

Timestamp - Grinding game with... I don't know if it's a tons of bugs that make everything being incoherent or a total inconsistency in the writing. While being decent, the CG have a little something odd ; they are both hyper realistic, and in the same time totally cartoonish.

A Wife and a mother - Amazing CG used for a story and character building wrote by a 13 years old virgin. The MC pass her time going back and forth from 10000% repressed prudish to total whore ; what woman goes from totally freaking out because her son see her in a bikini, in place of the usual totally covering one piece swimsuit, to offering a deal to the said son, if he behave (clean his room, help with the chores) she'll wear the bikini more often, after a 5 minutes discussion with him ? This after letting the said son and her friend see her with just a bra, without problem, and letting them grope her while feeling that it was normal... It's not a character that struggle with the acceptance of her feelings, but a character that have her brain reset each night.

Dating My Daughter - Interesting because of the nostalgia (for most of us it's our first adult game), and the story is believable, while the writing is good and coherent. But at some point it looked like Mr.Dots feared to really advance in the story and it killed everything. Now the pacing is totally fucked up.

Big Brother - It was the first, that's all it have for it. The player is left in the dark, having to guess every single step without clues, it's pure grinding that don't even provide a feeling of advancement, there's just no story at all, and no one put a protagonist in god mode, no one.

Being a Dik - Honestly I never felt involved. It's neither my culture nor my generation and the whole thing felt just awkward as fuck. I don't say that it's a bad game, but it's like being a 20yo and looking at your 10yo brother play with his friends ; you understand nothing and wonder if you looked "this stupid" at this age.

Milfy City - The CG aren't this bad, but for me it's all what the game have to offer. The story is cheap, the character building relatively generic, and it's again more a patchwork of situation than a consistent story.


And finally I'll say nothing about Good girl gone Bad. The game was ruined for my by my own fault, I can't really judge it.

Good art, good animation. In my opinion if you have these two things someone will play your game, and the amount of people is given by the fetishes in the game. For what i can see in the top of f95 i'd say the most appealing one is incest. if you put ntr should be avoidable.

I prefer "female protagonist" and there are not many, which means sometimes i try a female protagonist game even tho it doesn't really appeal me, but i give it a chance hoping it's good..

having a good story is important but secondary at the same time, for what i can see, the most played games do not have a so "deep" story, something simple but not boring

Personal opinion on ntr: It's normal that if you are mean/ignore your girl she might not want to stay with you, at the same time ntr shouldn't happen if you are good with her. something very simple and obvious tbh

A small premise : my few words here for each Game are not a review and i don't want at all to lack of respect with any of the developers and games that they are making ...

I decided to begin my small analysis from a title that the Author of this thread for obvious reasons decided to not mention , but easily can stay among all of the other games

Retrieving The Past : One of the best game for the kind of writing , big plus you feel immediately how the dev want to take are so much about the project. My critics that the game have a plot absolutely complex but with just a few of choices that really matters for the story

Acting Lesson and Badik: DPK has a peculiar style of writing and i'm impressed how he improved his skill in the time especially in the graphic part ; my critic about AL is that the fire episode was a twist not necessary made to create something never happened before with a Lis... About Badik the only critic i have is the i like more one release every 2 months maximum ( also with less contents ) , actually release in a more amount of time make me bored about all games

Depraved Awakening and City of Broken Dreamers : Philly is actually one of the best Indie Visual Writer
DA was stunning for the kind of writing and plot really innovative , the Graphic part was not the best and it lacked sufficient experience on the part of the writer.
CoBD is actually for me for the mix of writing , plot , Art , the best Game in developing ; impressive how Philly here improved his skills especially in the graphic part . No critics here if not about the main theme (cyberpunk setting ) that it could be not for every kind of players

Milfy City : Stunning the graphic part and the animations , also now after 2 years from the first release this game is still one of the best. Two Big critics from me , the inconsistency of the plot and the releases too distant one from the other

TimeStamps: Graphic part and animation are in may opinion in the top 3 games in the actual panorama ; critics is probably about the consistency of the story but here my judgement is suspended in the waiting to see the second chapter ( in developing ).

Big Brother : one of the first game i played , nice the the graphic part ( this game was developed more than 2 years ago ) and the Game mechanics ; absolutely not good the grind , repeating same and same stuff a lot of times just to proceed in the different achievements

A Wife and a Mother ( now the title is :The New Beginning ) : Excellent Graphic part and interesting plot ; by the way this is the big defect of game , the pace , too much slowly

Summertime Saga: How a Sand Box Game have to be done , with full of contents for every rooms and every path... Critics too long time between release and every time you have to play the game from the start (old saves don't work )

DMD: Dmd First game i played The first chapter it's also now one of the best game , for the pace , the plot and the how the developer was able to build i a real credible way a relation Father/ Daughter. In the other way the chapter 2 and 3 they suffered about a little bit of fatigue in writing with a certain repetitiveness in the scenes ; Actually the relationship F/D is too much " Creepy "

Good Girl Gone Bad : i've not till played the game , but a big plus that with next release it will be completed and for me the reliability of a developer it's the first point where i start to decide to become or not a Patron

The Deluca Family : My initial decision it was to play this game only when it had been completed , for the kind of theme and because i'm italian and the i saw " the Mafia " theme already treaty too much time in so many different books and films. But after last release ( 2 days ago ) and some players feedback that i received , i decided to give it a try , so i cannot give actually any kind of judgment

Acting Lessons - good story, renders, funny dialogs, choices...

BaDik - best game for me on F95, it has it all, college setting, beautiful girls, romance, drama, funny dialogs and sad ones, fantastic animations, shit load of choices, in game social app, mini games, interactive messages... like i said #1 game for me :)

CoBD - i don't like sci-fi that much, but the overall quality of the game is 10/10

DeLuca Family - mafia setting, great story, one of the games i really don't care about the lewd stuff because the story is that good, a lot of funny moments and on the other hand painfully sad ones like in the last update :(
great written and likeable characters that you really care about :)

Milfy City - i hate incest games, the story is meh... but other than that, some of the best CG in porn games

Timestamp - again incest, great renders and animations, not so good on the story part...

Big Brother - NO, just NO... but renders are nice :D

A Wife and a mother - i like the attention to detail in every scene, the audio and visual presentation of the game, story is great, a lot of hot moments, but the dev is milking this game to the core...

Summertime Saga - cartoon game, story is OK, but nothing special to me, Roxy path was IMO the best part of the game, takes forever to update

DMD - again, hate incest, the characters look like kids from elementary school with huge heads :D

Good girl gone Bad - great story, great art, an insane path sistem with shit load of choices, i don't know how eva kiss does it, but insane amount of paths, shame that it hasn't god animations, other then that, great game :)

On this part let me add a bit of input, if you are good to the girl NTR should never be unavoidable, there are certain situations adecuate for the plot like rape, blackmail and similar.

But the game should give enough clues to the player and the ability to stop it before something happens.

Okay, so this is what I'm looking for in my perfect vn:
1. Love interests: Not too many of them (something like 'Acting Lessons' and 'DeLuca Family' where there's only 3 or 4 woman for you to chase - my attention usually goes to one character)

2. I hate boring grinding and too many stats. 'DeLuca Family' is one (and only) good example of well made ingame grinding.

3. MC: I hate to play as some perfect guy, like Lucifer (from tv series) (big dick, muscles, gentleman, a lot of money...). So give me Peter Parker not Lucifer [and not Jensen Wenchester - I am sorry, but he is too perfect and I just don't feel him] . That kind of Main character works well in books, tv series and movies, but not in games with freedom of choice.

4.Good girl gone Bad - I really enjoyed Female Protagonist. And you have shamale character there - now thats what I call freedom of choice :)

5. 'Acting Lessons' and 'The DeLuca Family' made me cry. Do that and I'm sold!

The only one that is in that list that is appealing to me is Summertime Saga because it has incest (if a patch is added) and impregnation with a male protagonist that i can step into the shoes. The Sisterly Lust visual novel would be the perfect example of a game that hits all my interests with it's story of a romantic seduction of all the sisters and mother, ultimately with the main character being able to impregnate them. If you develop a game with impregnation being an option from the very beginning like Where it all began and/or Dr. Amana Sexual Therapist did i would most definitely play it even without the incest.

Having options of avoiding or not avoiding kinks like some examples of group sex involving another male, golden showers, and BDSM was pretty awesome too in Sisterly Lust. I can think of a very recent game update of Seducing the Devil that wouldn't let you avoid group sex with another male involved and it was a big turnoff. Options are always great so that everyone can be pleased to whether they want to avoid particular kinks or not.

MrKnobb , he's not totally wrong on that. In a way it's the opposite of Eric from Big Brother, here it's the MC that is in god mode, and it don't necessarily works better this way. We all want to play a MC better than us, but how can we feel implied if he's too perfect.

It's too late now, we already know how perfect he is and changing that would feel totally odd and incoherent. But he should have been wrote more like Eve is wrote, physically strong, emotionally more weak. Even Superman have his flaw, and I don't speak about the kryptonite, but about his shyness.
Jensen saw a lot of shit during his life in the army, no one stay totally sane after this. He should have had some flaws, like by example a tendency to becoming sad time to time, because a situation remind him of a brother in arms he lost. It would have changed nothing to his strength and his capability to handle the situation, but it would have made him more human. Suddenly, this perfect man have something we can all relate to.

I hear you i do... I really felt Jade's demise is his kryptonite but it seem as if even this has been overlooked along Vicky's confession. Also that he got beat to a pulp... much like superman was.

But i hear what you all saying and besides this topic is not about RTP but rather what i need to look at for next venture.

I don't think that it have been overlooked. For me it's more that Jensen feel too cold in regard of that. It looks like he acknowledge the fact, then immediately pass to something else.
Take Vicky's confession by example. He punched a tree... and that's all. Once he did that, he jumped to something else. He should have needed more time to reflect about this. Simply because it raise a tons of questions that don't have a definitive answer, nor even a right one :
  • He suddenly discovered that he have a daughter. It's a surprise that need time to proceeded.
  • It happen that it's not the first daughter that he discover, which lead to an unavoidable question : Is there more children that he don't know about ?
  • He love this daughter and have been sexual with her. How this take place in their possibly new relationship ?
  • The mother, that he also love, his the girl he never really stopped think about. Should he have put more effort for stay in touch with her, to retrieve her once he was able to do it ?
  • If he achieved to stay in touch with her, what would have been changed in her life and in Nicky's one ? Would they've been happier ?
  • Knowing that she's probably his daughter, would have he married Vicky ?
  • If he married Vicky, would have it make them a bigger target for Adam ? Or would have it protected them more from him ?
And it's just the question that crossed my mind will putting myself in his shoes right now. Reflecting an all this need times, and probably lead to more questions.

It change nothing on Jensen strength, nor on his way to act, except with Vicky and Nicky. He don't become suddenly distant or cold with them, but more on the reserve. He messed it once, without knowing. Now that he know, there one thing that he want more than anything else : not messing it again.

When you write scenes like that, you should take one full day or two to think about it before writing a single word. You put yourself in his shoes and take the time to think about nothing else than this. If right now, someone came ringing your door, then saying, "hi, do you remember me, we had sex 20 years ago, oh, and this girl here is probably your daughter", how would you react ? What would be the questions to cross your mind ?
Then, once you have this, you translate it to Jensen life. How would this reaction be different than mine ? What those questions would imply for him ?
And it's only once you've all this, that you can write the scene. Without forgetting that now his personality have changed a little.

All good points and once again not disagreeing.

Now we have just been accused of dragging Season 2. First season 1 was too quick. Imagine i had to show behind the scenes images of Jensen thinking of what you just mentioned. The game would not move forward but rather just sit on one characters life. Yes Jensen is a vital part of the game but even he I cannot dwell on much.

We will touch on his thoughts as and when time allows but to do what you suggested below would be actually fairly big.

On that do you find similar type of situations happening in the games I mentioned above? Do they answer all your questions regarding characters and their lives, situations? IF so then I seriously need to have a look at how the devs handled those situations without it being drawn out.
