1) Slow and steamy progress, few sex scenes but good quality.
2) Fuck circus, quality who cares, more sex the better.

It kinda depends to be fair, I don't need ultra high quality scenes to enjoy the game, I would choose between high and medium-high.

I do tend to question myself on this very topic, every time I sit down to write. How I see it is, at the end of the day it's a smut game. So the quantity of smut can always over power the story, but rarely the other way around. The filler in between smut should develop the characters though; and be vibrant, so the smut you write hits home.

The best way to gauge this is by popular games out there. We all love to say the story takes precedence but if you read most of them it is only a thin verneer of story (In most cases). There are exceptions to this like Rise of the white flower (that's the first game that popped into my head), which is story heavy and is a successful game in it's own right.

Not really, there are games after playing which people write the following:
"Came for the porn stayed for the story, or gameplay, or combat, or all three."
Play any of the Sierra Lee games, they're all awesome but not because of smut.

So the problem is skill i'd say, most people are not good enough to write/create something that will make people absolutely forget all about porn. Games with cool story, gameplay, and combat, are rare because rarely does anyone here succeeds at making them amazing, and so they inevitably sink to filling their games with porn because everything except the porn in their games - sucks ass.

Porn supposed to be the enhancer, not the replacement.:coffee:

I don't disagree with any of your points. I definitely know games I played here, not mainly for the smut. I did give an example of a game I enjoy just for the story as well. But I do tend to lean towards the when in doubt how's their smut camp.:)

Edit - Don't know why you made me think of a Naruto analogy but here goes. If you have ever watched that show there are filler arcs in between the meat of the story that brings climax in the action scenes. That is what I was referring to, so if you add more action scenes in Naruto it won't really take away from the overall story. Hope that made sense. A little sleep deprived here.o_O

Fillers in Naruto were literally just buying time for the mangaka, so that he could draw more of the story.
When you are serialized you are expected to pump content at a certain rate you see, but we are only human and delays happen.
That's how fillers happen.
The fillers in Naruto were often boring and pointless, so i usually skipped them unless i was VERY bored. :giggle::coffee:

Not so long ago, playing a game I've supported for a while which has quality writing and quality art but whose most recent sex scene update left me tepid, I had a realization: I don't really fucking care all that much whether you have like 5 kinda rough sex scenes or 2 really polished ones (based on your own sex scene-making skills, 'natch). I want to see interesting sex scenes involving interesting couplings and/or interesting situations.

It doesn't matter how good an artist you have or how scintillating of conversation your writer can write: a porn game where two unrelated conventionally attractive mutually attracted of-age adults go on a date and later have photorealistic vanilla consensual coitus is the most boring fucking thing I can think of. You can make Goddamned anything, but you chose to make something that literally most people do sometimes? Jesus. It's like getting a magic genie who tells you, "I can grant you any wish you want, in any way you want. May I suggest a mode of transportation?" And you wish for a lightly-used 2015 mid-range sedan. Not a gold rocket car. Not the starship Enterprise. Not a magic unicorn whose saddle is a porn star who sucks your dick when you ride it. You wish for a 7-year-old Honda civic.

Put in cheating, put in non-consensual sex, get ladies groped, have people offended by incest rather than into it, get a dog involved, make...basically any mongobongo comic into a porn game. That's what I want to see. For my money, that's a bigger draw than beautiful bland sex scenes or a bunch of rushed bland sex scenes. Make it weird.

I agree. But it's mostly about the writing, in my opinion.

There are games where the MC ends up impregnating all his 25 daughters but it's still boring as fuck.

But good writing can make even vanilla sex between two consenting married adults hot.

Midlife Crisis is probably the best example of what you describe. But there, even the vanilla sex with the wife is very hot, in my opinion.

I much prefer option one.
the quality of the scenes and perhaps accompanied by quality in the writing, make the game absolutely fantastic, as far as I'm concerned.

I prefer 1 but 99% of the game creators can not achieve that.
So i settle for 2.

Honestly a good story is hard.
Evil gaurd of the merchant district has nearly no story and does a better job of entertaining me then 99% of the visual noval crap on f95zone.

Meanwhile.
I believe it was call puter?
Not sure it had a wierd name.
Had awesome dialog, awesome story, good sex scene and ended up addandon because lets me honest.
Keeping high quality content is hard.
Keeping it when nobody is paying you is harder.

Steamy progress is the keyword.

You rail people with pages of script with "world building" while nothing steamy happens is boring even if you are Stephen fucking king writing a porn game. A slow and steamy progress balance is a must to keep players going.

Quality writing above all else, I think there could be more sex scenes and still have the quality to it. It all depends on pacing and good buildup, as long as it doesn't overstay its welcome by doing half the game worth of just foreplay.
