It honestly depends on how deep and long a story you want in the game. If its a flavor of the week style of game, like say a management style game, then the number is endless. There is no story, really, its all just window dressing. If you want a story, I'd say 5-10 is a good range for their personalities to develop and you get 3-dimension characters.

15 if you care about the plot. It is easy (inspiration wise, I am not speaking about fund and manpower problems for developers) to make 15 memorable and different women for a harem game. Without plot? All combinations unless you are starting to produce 100% perfect copy of an already existing character and in that case you should stop.

People who voted a fairly low number may have different ideas about what makes a good game than most other people.

I am one of those who voted 3-5. Personally I believe that with 3-5 girls, it is still possible to write deep and engaging characters, and give them sufficient screen time. In games which have 10+ girls, I tend to forget most of them in the time between updates, because, well, they are forgettable, cookie-cutter characters. And/or because I have not seen them since a couple of updates ago, which may mean no screen time in many months.

Personally I enjoy when games add flavor of the month fetish's like the RE:7 lady and her daughters and Billy Eilish for Sex Note. Even though they have zero character develop, I think they're hotter then milf character number 9000 and bad girl goth with piercing's for the millionth time

Enough to make it feel like a harem, and few enough to give each room for growth, personality, character, story etc. If it just feel like a endless stream of pussy served up assembly style,its a big fail imho. Also a harem game where there is lacking interaction between the girls, also a fail -)

I'm no fan of Harem Games because most of them are Quantity over Quality. I like it when Games focus on a few Girls and really go deep into the relationship.
Well, majority of these type of games fail in the story telling department. Let's rack that up to lack of experience from real life by the creators...

My half-assed analysis is that they're popular because with that amount of characters it's easy to have at least one or two for anyone's taste. But still, probably most players just care about 4 or 5 characters. With more characters you reach a wider audience, but that's it. And again probably most players would like as much if not more a game that focus on just those 4 or 5 they care about.

Love of Magic has the primary LI (Emily), the three Chosen (Molly, Bella, Akane) and Katie (who acts as a direct counterweight to Emily). There's lots of other characters you CAN have sex wit, but I can't imagine tracking all that and having the various girls react to it properly. It can be done, of course, but... it's going to be hard to give all the girls all the screen-time they deserve. I think that's largely the same for the various games mentioned with a large cast; you have an inner circle, an outer circle, and some tinder dates.

If you going to look realistic on things. People that live in polyamours relationships the success come down to have a meaningful relationship with each involved. The more "wifes" (and kids) you would end up with the more you spread yourself thin and the danger of relationships blow up in your face increase. Just look at that series sister wives (sometimes I loose the battle over the remote and end up have to endure such :ROFLMAO: ). Of course these games isn't realistic or reflect real life. But so much more could be done in regard of story/relationship building, rather than just focus on one lay after the other.

I didn't see this poll posted anywhere, so I figured it was about time someone did it.

It's a self-explanatory poll. Just vote for the amount of girls you all think is good for a harem game and explain why, if you want to.

I know there's lots of people here who hate harem games, but please don't start flame wars here people. I'm just curious and wanna hear from those who like them.
My initial thought was 3-5, but I could see 3-5 with optional side girls. It all depends on what type of game/story is being developed. If the game is just going to be about the sex and not about relationships, or any overarching plot, then there is no need for a limit (Luke's Way and WVM being examples). If the game will focus on a strong central plot and have the MC develop relationships with the LI then it makes sense to limit it to 3-5 with potential one off flings that could happen with other characters. When playing a game, of any genre, I don't want to set up a spreadsheet to track all of the LI (or feel like I have to). Also when there are so many LI the sex scenes become meaningless and generic just like any random porn you find online. I don't play these games for porn, there are plenty of other places to get that.

Edited to add: Though I do think that it would be hilarious if, at the end of a long harem game full of 30+ characters (including some hidden or difficult fucks), the developer added a "ding" sound and had a fake achievement appear "Gotta fuck them all". But I'm sure that's just me.

Depends on how long the game has been in development for me. I'd rather the dev start with only a few that are the focus of the story, and expand out. But I'm thinking of Patreon games that keep getting built forever. Summertime Saga started with only the Mom & Sister for example.

For any harem i think 7 girls is best, because week has 7 days.
Each girl gets your full attention for an entire day, everyone is happy~

I don't think the number really matters. It depends on how much story surrounds each one. I think the more important aspect of a harem game is that most players want to be able to fuck most if not all of the girls that ARE in the game. Whether that's 5 girls or 50 girls doesn't matter.
