(I've hidden the few spoilers in case anyone cares about those)

Maybe "a lot" is an exaggeration but several games i've played recently with male MCs have had these shitty, borderline abusive, controlling dads. A few examples being "Where The Heart is" With the dad being awful to MC and his mistress for years and the fucked up situation with the will "Become a Rock Star" With the dad literally spying on MC, ruining lives, and trying to sabotage you the whole time to force you to work for him and "Freeloading Family" This one may be a stretch but he's always a massive prick when he speaks to you
Not that I mind it though, honestly it makes me root for the MC even more. Just a trend i've noticed with games i've been playing lately. Wondering if some of these games are hitting home for a few people.

Well, with so many dead fathers, the next best thing is the abusive/horrible one and the idiot one. You write a competent or cool father figure and suddenly ether the plot starts to make no sense or you must actually write a good story for why the hell would your mom bang you. :)

The father in Being a DIK was cool as shit though lol. And you don't even bang MC's mother in the games that I listed but I can definitely see that being a plot point at some point for a game.

Don't know, the dev is on my "avoid at all costs" list.
Edit: He probably was, tho. The last game had one of the best written best-friends i've seen in an adult game.

Probably makes it easier for the reader to accept the MC stealing the mother. It is part of the Oedipus complex, so it is easier to 'fight' the father if he is an asshole rather than a caring, loving guy you'd want as a dad.

Remove the father from those games, or make them nice and comprehensive, and the said games lost their interest.

Following the story of a wannabe rock star ? Why not, but it will be quickly boring. Rehearsal, meeting with a girl, rehearsal, meeting with a girl, and so on until their first concert. Add the abusive father, and suddenly there's a suspense. What will be the father next step ? Will the MC end being a rock star or will he finally give in and follow the step of his father ? Will the father suddenly understand his son ?
Same for Freeloading family, but on a more subtle way. It's because of the abusive father that the MC live with his half-sister, because of the father that his aunt have joined the boat. Here, the father isn't the base of the story, like for Become a Rock Star, but he's the pretext for the story. Without him, either the MC is already close to his sister, and you loose the initial tension between them, or he's left with only one girl available. That a bi-sexual girl (who initially think she's just lesbian) give it a try because she become close to her girlfriend brother and his encouraged by the said girlfriend, ok. But without the girlfriend, she have no reason to trust enough the MC ; like the said girlfriend have no reason to fall for the MC if she isn't his half-sister and live with him.
And if goes on and on for, more or less, all games with a father that's a piece of shit.

Why because of how Acting Lessons ended? lmao
I think he's stated that this game is gonna be more lax. Or so I hope...I don't wanna have to go through another ending like that again lol.

Fair enough. I guess when I think about it, it would take alot of depth out of these stories. A harem for the sake of being a harem would get old. These are all ongoing games so if there was some sort of redemption or change of heart by the end of em it would be nice.

Wut?

Dev is on a few peoples shit list and it has nothing to do with how AL ended.

Not going into the ins and outs, it's nobody else's business now, but some shit went down and he kicked up a childish hissy fit over something that was nothing and pissed a few people off.

Milfy City has kind of a sympathetic schlub of a dad. I guess one could just flat out make the father the antagonist. There's a few games that do that, actually. Usually Dad is either absent or barely in the game. A different angle would be a father who suspects his son is "doing stuff" with his sisters, and even his wife has been acting strangely lately.

Ah, I was unaware of that.

You need to have some conflict so the story isn't boring and has some interesting twists. Since most of the games have a huge emphasis on family and take place almost exclusively in the family setting, the only person in the family you aren't going to do some "hillbilly lovin" with, is dad. :D Or brother. :D

It can't be mom, because she has to satisfy the fetish of a caring milf, similar goes to the older sister, and the younger sister's role varies. But it wouldn't make that much sense to have a conflict with the female family member and make inbred babies with her at the same time. :D

In case you are wondering why I used some harsh words, I'm not shitting on the genre, it's a joke. People like what they like, it's just a sexual fantasy. Hopefully nobody does it irl. I like the games even though I am not a fan of incest and always change the script to make the characters not blood related. I just don't like inbreeding.

I almost forgot. MC's oponent has to be father in these family stories, because nobody wants a another Eric. xD

Yeah, it's an easy way to set up a story that is believable and doesn't require much explanation. For a comparison, you can say that girl X is aspiring to participate in the Olympics

Then there's the other option where you can create an entirely new storyline where girl X had an older sister. She was incredible at sports and was about to participate in the Olympics when a tragedy struck and she was unable to participate anymore. So she wants to win for her sister's sake.

Both of these options are viable and both have motives, but this is an erotic game. It's easier for the creator to make the first story and most (not all) of players will appreciate that the story is simple and doesn't stray from the porn for that long.
