What's with the DDoS checks anymore?

They are very, very frequent now. To the point were I have to keep saving my drafts or else it will be gone because anything done after the background check for DDoS is forgotten. There is protection and then there is intrusive. I haven't seen anything in the important section or anything like that, but maybe I missed it. It makes responding with anything other than a few sentences very troublesome.

"However, during periods of high attacks, there will be more frequent challenges for suspicious users, this may include some VPNs, if you're based in the same area as where a lot of the attacks are coming from, share a similar user agent, open up too many tabs at once, etc.

I'd rather the site lose a few users than lose everyone because it's down completely."

If you find DDoS-guard annoying, do not use the same cheap VPN than those doing the attacks. You'll have a nice and peaceful experience browsing the forum.

Just wondering where Proton VPN (paid) sits on that scale? I see the Cloudflare protection pages quite often and i often have to enter the CAPTCHA in addition.

Well, since you have to enter Captcha, it seem to sits high on the scale.

Globally speaking, it's (some step can be skipped):

• let it pass;
• basic challenge to the browser;
• advanced challenge to the browser;
• Prove that you are human check box;
• Captcha.

This being said, I know that I said "cheap VPN", but the truth is more that people behind this rarely pay for their VPN, they stole user IDs.
Also, the issue itself isn't directly that one use a VPN, but that he end in the same IP addresses block than those performing the attacks. Therefore, to some extend it can also happen if your ISP don't really deal with abuses, and therefore host a lot of zombie used for the attacks.

I get it. But also, your link was for a comment below, it happens. But I am also curious what they mean by "Suspicious users"? I have been around for years. Sure I haven't contributed in a monetary way, yet, but it has bean constant. Unless it's something else?

As I said in the post right above yours, it's based on the IP address. If you're on the same netblock that one, or more, of the attackers, you'll be seen as suspicious. And it's something that is more likely to happen if you use a VPN, because they concentrate a ton of connection through a small range of IP addresses.

I have been around for years. Sure I haven't contributed in a monetary way, yet, but it has bean constant.

It have nothing to do with what or who you are here. The security check is done independently of the forum.
