Because you asked:
I want to see a male body builder who has the upper body of Lou Ferrigno back in his golden error. But his legs are from a midget about 10 to 12 inches long. He has a 2 inch pecker.
His Girlfriend has 42inch long legs with a lot of Junk in the trunk. I mean a fucking huge ass. That's pared to an upper body that is sky as shit with not tits. I mean this woman is flatter than a board ran through a plainer. She has a big head with a huge fucking Afro.

When they try to fuck her has dwarfs his lower section its been years since his dick has found its way in. The last time she sat on his face they had to call the paramedics because it suffocated his ass.

Maybe, I should have been more direct rather than beating around the bush with my first answer. This is a stupid question to ask. You are going to get as many different answers as there are people who respond. All this covers is appearance. You might as well put up a character model that can be manipulated with sliders and switch and ask people create what they think is a hot character. Then ask them to create someone fugly and so on.

How about doing things the smart way. Write a story then create characters that fit the role in the story.
First thing is personality types that would do what you want to happen in the story. Then go to appearance.
Maybe you need to adjust the personality to allow for the appearance you want and the actions they are going to take.

Take for example: slackers don't really follow routines to much so aren't usually the best physical shape. That's in most cases. However, give him an excuse or reason that compels them to make this the exception to their slacker behavior and you have a character that can be a slacker and still work out.

Trying to do shit backwards won't get you a good story it will end with a pile of shit that won't end up completed and people will get pissed about then not back you on other stuff.

Loli uber alles, uber alles en der verlt!

Seriously though, lolis are always welcome, as are tomboys, well toned girls, redheads, dark-skinned girls with white or black hair... Honestly, pretty much all are good, except for 50+ or comically oversized body parts.

I'm sorry that this thread hasn't been helpful to you but I have actually found it quite enlightening. My aim here is not to find out what every individuals preference are but to see what the ratios of interest in the various physical archetypes that I have seen in existing VNs these days.

While I agree with you that the character's physical appearance should match their personality, it's helpful to know what kind of character the majority of players would enjoy. Based on the current poll results, I can clearly decide that it might not be in my best interest to make a VN centered around an elderly futa couple. While I am sure there are people out there that would enjoy such a VN, based on the data in the poll, I would be worried about it being able support me financially enough that I could continue to make it.

A story revolving around younger characters with average to muscular body types would appeal to a larger audience on the whole. If I adjust my story so it caters to said audience, it would mean more patreons supporting my story. More patreon supporters means I have incentive to keep working on the VN and can make them faster, due mainly to my ability to reduce or even eliminate having to rely on a regular job.

The worst thing for a VN developer to do is spend hundreds or thousands of labor hours on developing a story that generates little to no interest. It's one reason why so few VN's make it past their first few chapters. There are other reasons, like real life, but that goes back to not getting enough fans interested in helping support the developer. If a developer isn't getting enough (or any) help financially via patreon or wherever, there's no incentive for them to continue pouring hour after hour, day after day, month after month of painstaking effort into making a VN.

VN's are a b*tch to develop. So, at least in my mind, obtaining information that can actually help me cater my VN's to a larger audience then I'm that much more incentivized to continue working on them.

I considered adding loli as a character type to the poll and while animation featuring underage characters is (last time I checked) legal in my country, I am sure that other countries have different views. The last thing I want to do is make a VN that ends up sending someone to jail.

With that being said, it could be ignorance/fear on my part. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong!

It's definitely something worth being concerned about. Unfortunately, this is a topic that many localities frown heavily upon.

You know there is already published information on the demographics of readers such as book and visual novel and stuff like Manga... The vast majority of reader tend to like characters they can associate with or want to imagine themselves as.
So you aren't really learning anything that you couldn't just found an answer to with a google search.

The short answer is if you want to appeal to the widest audience of readers of this type you write a story about a male age 18 to 26. 18 being the legal low limit of characters because of the laws around creating porn. The industry might not admit it but there are plenty of minors playing these games. Just out of high school or in college. Or trying to deal with there first income and becoming an adult. That's why there are so many games of that type already.

This forum also isn't representative of the general populace in what it likes and doesn't like. An example of how that can be pornhub supposedly has a 75% male and 25% female demographic. That's different from the rest of the internet regarding porn which is 90 / 10. Here we tend to see a lot more people who like certain fetish and so on.

One thing I notice when it comes to patreon the people providing the money are catching on. They realize the people who rare complete products and or create shit products tend to be those who don't have a planned out story and so on to start with and are basically flying by the seat of their pants and just trying to add one scene on top of another. That usually results in shit. The person creates a crap product trying to appease to many people or never finishes.

You can just search on this site and find enough people talking about how they will never again support various types of stuff projects.

Developers need to start thinking what are they going to do down the road when their supports have dwindled off and no one wants to support a new project because they earned a bad reputation.

So why even does this forum exist if your answer to everything is “google it”? I want to engage with a community of people that are discussing VN’s. I didn’t realize doing so would get members of this community so butthurt.

Im the only person that can decide what I’m learning here. If you aren’t learning anything, that’s fine because the point of this post was for me to get feedback on questions that I had. And I appreciate everyone giving that feedback because it has been extremely helpful to me.

If you think that’s stupid, well make your own posts then. Or maybe don’t bother and just google it lol.

You’re going to need to provide some CV’s to me before you start making “I kNoW WhAT tHiS iNdUsTrY WaNtS!” Comments...

Being a member here only a couple months longer than I have doesn’t really make me confident that you are the VN / porn industry expert. Who knows? Maybe you are?

Soo, you’re saying that the best thing to do as a producer of VN’s is to do your research? Plan out your VN’s and find out what the community wants? Make a good story that people will enjoy based on feedback you received from oh, I dont know... polls? ;) And with that plan complete a story?

Hmm... now why didn’t I think of that?

I think it depends on how you define muscular. I would bet for women, most people are thinking well toned and athletic, not someone with bigger muscles than most guys.
I actually find the full spectrum of muscle attractive. My issue is that the art is often badly done. I could play this game all day:

Lets say you find this one here: ...
You know what? Thanks for that link. I'll check it out! (I'm actually being genuine here, I'm not above rejecting any help)

Hint: When I said stupid I was being nice.
No, no you weren't. You were being an arse. I know it. You know it. If you really wanted to help someone, you don't start off your messages by saying something like:

"This post is stupid. You're stupid. I'm the only one here that knows anything and everyone else are idiots..."

Instead, if you had posted something like:

"Hey, you are looking for some data regarding VN's? Check out some of these links I'll provide. Hope they help! Good luck on your VN!"

And I would have said:

"Wow! Thanks! That's great! I really appreciate it! You're awesome!"

And everyone would be happy! Instead you decided to activate "aNgRy TrOlL Im bEsT oN ThE nEt!" mode. So be it. If you want to post any more links to sites. Great! I'd be happy to check them out. If you want to continue you internet ranting, well I'm pretty much finished with that phase of our conversation so maybe find another thread to vent that pent up anger on.

Toodles!

The fact you think a person's time on this site is in anyways indicative of their experience and knowledge that isn't related to this site gives me serious doubts you could ever create any sort of story or game worth anyone's time.

So a community that is built around pirating software / games has more insight into game development than the actual industry researchers of the adult industry developers who's livelihoods and fortunes balance on it.

What I was trying to point out there are more accurate sources than trying to pull this type of information from a community that is heavily biased in various ways and not exactly representative of the general community of people who play adult games.
Take for example there are lot more people who like futa and ntr in this community vs the adult game players in general. That's just an example.

Lets look at your solution:
You are going to ask a question on a site that the populace of it isn't exactly representative of the adult game player community in general. Of that populace only a fraction will answer this post and so the data is even more skewed. And that's the shit you want to use to plan with.

Hint: When I said stupid I was being nice.

A person with some intelligence might have asked for sources of the information and if there was any methods currently in process that are effectively live sources of the information on trends and so on. Even if you do figure out all the sources you are stuck looking at data from this point forward because you haven't looked at it for the last year or several years or more.
Lets say you find this one here:
You haven't followed these games over the last couple years and paid attention to the comments they made over that time to see what their development process was.

That however isn't going to give you game trends like what the players want. This site here could in a way be a sign of game trends if you where able to look at say the downloads of the games per month and how many people play it. The question is are you looking at long term trend or short term, is the site indicative of the rest of the market in general? Then maybe you could look at more sites that sell adult games or even just have them up to play.

Maybe, you could find a clearing house for that data or a site that took the time to accumulate it and publish that information.
Honestly, given your response above I seriously doubt you could find this let alone complete a decent enough story to make it worth anyone's time.

Why are sources like this important to me well I'm a developer of a different nature. Imagine you want to create a product that various studios can use to stream line the process of making games and reduce if not cut out many of the issues. Well that's just one aspect of my business.

But don't worry I won't bother trying to point you in a better direction any more. Like the old saying says, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." I wasted way to much time responding to you. Yep, in fact I'm going to create a new rule for myself. If I see someone post something stupid I'm just going to assume from now on they are to stupid to learn and not bother replying to correct them. Fuck it let the idiots fail.
dude.. you're probably right on most accounts, but please, remember Wheaton's law.

Yep, I could have handled it better. 20/20 hindsight.
So I'll go ahead and apologize now for those who read through my tirade.

Hey, I honestly really appreciate that. Thanks! Of course, it takes two to tango and I'm not above admitting returning a little snark. So here is my apology to you and anyone else that may have gotten offended by my comments.

To each their own. She's too muscular for me. I'd be much more likely to go for a chick like this who would run my ass into the ground and light a fire under me to get my ass to the gym:

Frankly, I am surprised that the response rate (42%) for muscular is as high as it is.
I have a feeling that depends on their relative scarcity overall... most games have big titted, milf, runway model and gneric hot babe covered. maybe people are angling for something that isn't as prevalent.

Most importantly for me, I have absolutely no interest in a game where the female characters all are very thin, with narrow hips and flat chests. That does absolutely nothing for me, and no matter how good the story or build might be, I'm not going to enjoy it.

Beyond that, I love seeing women anywhere from college age through 50s. Full figured, with wider hips and large breasts. Sometimes that can mean very fit, with strong legs and asses and toned abs. Sometimes it can mean soft and curvy. Both are awesome.

I'm not into overly muscular, and I'm not into games with fantasy characters that are tiny like fairies or huge like giants.
