It depends. I prefer playing as a guy in your standard VN, but those losing-means-sex action and RPG games with female protagonists are hella fun as well

Yeah, this particular mechanic sucks, but I think it can be done in such a way that it's good. I can't name games off the top of my head, but there were a number of those where losing isn't losing, but like alt-winning. You get less stuff, but see hot scene, and then just progress.

Monster Girl Quest comes to mind. There's also a couple of other games that let you lose to every enemy with a scene, without triggering a game over. Luckily, the games with game over scenes have greatly diminished over the years.

For me (male, hetero) it depends on the context. With most story-driven games I mainly care about a good story, which for something containing porn usually also means "happy" though I am aware of the difference. We have a core cast of characters and those end up having most of the sex so it doesn't really matter that much who ventures off slaying demons in between. Meanwhile with sandboxes, even ones with branching stories and so on, I definitely want a female MC because most of the sex focuses on them and their choices. The lore can be written such that a woman can still overthrow the emperor and reinstate prima nocta so playing as a man only deprives you of doing things to yourself or having them done to you.

In practice I end up wading through a lot of very rapey male-protag games out of interest in fetish content most women would not consent to (egg laying and so on so not intrinsically rape-related otherwise) but very rarely do they contain anything which actually requires the protagonist to be male other than fitting into the generally misogynist world of the game. Only the ones where your goal explicitly is to breed as many women as possible would even require a futa. The other big one are (usually female-PC) "corruption" games and I use the quotes because my approach to those is to grind lewdness ASAP and pretend that part never happened. Basically the only semi-consistent way I've found of playing a sexually active female character with any reasonable agency and I am sickened by always needing to run a train of alley bums, goblins or other man-pig-hybrids through her as if that would actually make anyone like sex.

Gimme a female sex positive adult game. Ladies do have a sex drive despite what society says.

Adult games need more bitch heroines. Being a bitch while manipulating everyone around you with sex sounds like such a fun concept.

Are these two separate ideas or did you only mean "female sex positive" as in "positive for the female"? The manipulative bitch approach kinda portrays female sexuality in a negative light, being used as a means to an end and most likely hurting lots of other people who don't exactly deserve it (okay in a Mafia setting everyone kinda does - man or woman doesn't matter when you're shooting people for a living)

As a guy I'm really curious what women's ideas of "positive female sexuality" actually look like when translated into a playable porn game. I mean there's always the cookie-cutter answer of "lots of consensual sex and everyone enjoys each other" but that's not very engaging to play as a game most of the time. Would an "I really love this guy and want to win him over" type of VN actually work for women or are those only made for lonely guys who want to be on the receiving end for once? Or a female adventurer who roams around and has sex with anyone she likes just because she can/wants to? (not a "forced everyone" but a "walk up to friend/merchant/stranger/orc and invite them to your tent" setup, perhaps one of the few times gathering a dozen bear hides for a sidequest will actually come in handy)

I don't have anything against games where I have to play as a female protagonist, but it lets me project myself onto the character a little better. Even if the MC is essentially an asshole who'll do anything just so he can stick his dick into something.

As I learn more about coding and graphic manipulation I plan on doing my own with stories donated. Can you tell I can't write a story script yet?

male protag for me, but there really aren't enough Futa MC games that I play/like for me to judge whether i like the genre as a whole, especially because there's the chance for futa X male, which is not preferred at all. I can project onto a male protag, and having a "harem" (or just a bunch of women to fuck that aren't specifically a harem) with varying personalities, body types, and fetishes, is what I want.
