Hi everyone! I am a new game developer trying to make an adult game. So while I am thinking about which type of genre I should develop, I got an idea to ask here.

So if someone will make a game that you want, how do you want to play?
Rich storylines? Female protagonist? Etc etc...

And I also added a poll for which one do you expect most from an adult game.

Thanks guys.. and sorry for bad English

Rich storyline working well with right kinks or on paths with right kinks. In other way the game is just boring.
Detailed animations have thier own value kinks and paths independent.
So it is hard to tell what I expect more - both of them are very important for me.
From my personal experience - I see detailed and well desinged animations are still rare. So detailed pictures with detailed facial emotions are enough to activate my imagination if storyline is really rich of my favourite kinks.

And you, what do you want to make?

Because it's how it works, you have an idea of story, and you develop your game around it, with things that make sense for such story. Doing the opposite will have near to no chance of success, because you'll not feel invested enough, and/or not have the needed knowledge to do it correctly.

Anyway, you'll have as many answers as there will be people answering, because everyone is unique and, when facing such question, people will tend to describe their dream, not what they actually play.

Object poster asking us about our dreams I'm sure - not what we have to live with.

Well designed characters with detailed facial expressions and rich storyline full of kinks is very close to our dreams and sometimes we can find such great games here. Not everyday are new updates but maybe once or twice a month we can find great updates here imho.

Nice animations will get you noticed

Detailed story lines will keep people around. The bread and butter appeal, the main reason why we like sex games is dialogue to enhance the sexual act, otherwise we would just go watch those 1 minute videos.

I am not sure who the hell is picking gameplay because outside of a handful of games, detailed gameplay often means time wasting crap.

Thanks guys.. and sorry for bad English
Hmmm, here's a good test for new devs, go to Archives of Our Own, write an original story with fetishes you like, you will find people there who share them. If you get no comments, maybe not the end of the world, but that's not a good sign.

I am! The logic is exactly as you have in regards to story, if I did not care about gameplay, I could just read a non-interactive work. There are tens of thousands of them, and some have good stories. That's not to say story isn't important in a porn game. It is.

You are correct that examples of "gameplay" we get are sometimes detrimental to the game. But what we often get shoesn't dictate our desires.

these are irrelevant choices. none of them would make me click on your game in lack of content.

you must first give us a reason to get interested in your game. show me a hot milf and I'll click to see what the tags are. show me some weeaboo crap and I'll never even read the name of your game skipping over it. someone else will have completely different interests and dealbreakers.

what is your audience? who are you trying to make your game for? is it gay? an ntr game? incest game? romance? rape game? -a lot of these don't mix well, you need to pick a set of kinks that fits your story. what is your story?

If I have to pick, then storyline, but nice to look at CGs come before that. Animation is a bonus to have, but I don't expect that in adult games scene.

Gameplay...it's hit or miss, not an important thing for me either.

this isn't really about you, but just to prove a point about general audience:

so you'd play a gay game if it has a good storyline? you'd play an NTR game if it had a good storyline? you'd play a torture game if it had a good storyline?

I don't know your tastes, but I suspect some of these are hard no for you, doesn't matter how good the storyline, animations or game mechanics are. those things are simply irrelevant to what draws people in, the first thing is the game must have kink content that interests them. nobody is prioritizing any technical matter, they won't try the most well-made game ever unless it has that one sexual thing they're looking for. and conversely: if the game focuses on their main kink, it almost doesn't matter how badly is made.

I agree with you on the first part, but the second part doesn't really work at least for me. If a game doesn't feature my kink, I just can ignore it. If a game features my kink and maybe has even interesting images, but the gameplay and the storyline is quite bad, playing it feels for me like self-torture. I played games, where I felt bored to death with my own kink (same goes actually for me also for uninteresting written stories). Same goes, when a game contains kinks that I like but also kinks, that I absolutely don't like. You basically look at some bait, but know you never will get it, as playing the game raises your inner anger more than your lust.

GAMEPLAY!!!!!!!!
For the sake of my boredom, give me some good goddamn game play ... and some PORN.
Give me a fuck button and a club to beat the sex outta anyone that doesn't wanna 'do it' with my slut.

"Rich storyline" and "Deep Characters" is fantastic, but it gets boring as fuck to read through someone's fantasy novel after a while. I find myself pressing the skip button to fast forward through 10 pages of text boxes after I have read 'story' for about half an hour ... in a porn game.
1080P/4K graphics are the bees knees and seeing high rez, detailed images and animations are great, but when you grew up with CGA and VGA graphics, I am pretty tolerant when it comes to porn images/animations. As long as it isn't that crippling Japanese mosaic censorship, I am just fine with a lot of games.

Don't misunderstand me, I do love a good, rich story, and I do love some high rez, detailed, images, but the combination of those two usually means I am playing a Ren'py game and clicking 'the next button' is not what I would consider to be game play.

i will be honest and say i play adult games just to find stuff to jerk off to,
so while a good story can definitely enhance the experience,
i often time find lots adult game that got too much dialogues to click thru, and that kinda turn me off

same thing goes for the gameplay as well,
if its fun, then why not, but if its bad, then it become a torture to endure

so overall its quite tricky to get the right balance

by definition and litteral transcription a video game need pictures and gameplay. A good video game need good pictures (animations or CG) and good gameplay, everything else is optional.

Visual novel are not games, they are just comic books in the form of a software. Just read adult comic or hentai online if the story is what matter to you.

The whole thing about adult games, is to manage to incorpore the porn/hentai/erotic part into a good gameplay. If you manage to do that, even if your main story and dialogs are super cliche, it will be a hit.

You are just deeply wrong. Yes we have relatively small branch of VN tagged kinetic novels - which have no choices but typical VN is much more a game than just comic book in form of software.

And for sure you are not talking about adult games for real adults but rather adult games for kids. Yes kids likes the adult games too but they are preferring gameplay cos their imagination didnt grown up enough yet.

Personally, it's all about the story line and plot for me.
I'm old enough to remember where adult gaming started and some of the titles from back in 'the day' still hold up pretty well, even in modern times. On the opposite side though, I have played some gorgeous adult games in my time, with some stunning almost AAA like graphics, but with the story and plot of a wet paper bag.
So for me, I'd always say that it has to be about the story line, I can take hideous graphics and gameplay, but if the story is well told enough, none of that really matters.

Let me correct them: VNs are just exaggerated choose-your-own-adventure books. There is basically no interactivity compared to literally any other genre you can think up.

Well then, I must declare Visual Novels as games for people with massive skill issues who can't play real games.
