Hi, I love wholesome and erotic content. Can they really go hand in hand and still be hot? I only know one game that do that, for me is: Knight of love. So, what does anybody think about and do you like romantic content in adult games?

Yes, romance can absolutely work in adult games. It's worth viewing the genre as two different types of games: porn games (where the only story you need is your step-flatmate being stuck in the washing machine) and games with porn (where the characters and relationships are the key aspect, and adult content is shaped by story and personalities).
Personally I write games with porn (story driven games like Love of Magic, Morningstar), and pure fap-games aren't really that interesting to me; others have other interests. That's a good thing; it means the genre's expanding to the point different niches can form, and people can find the content that resonates with them.

If you want another game that has real romance (where there is genuine love) but in a porn game,
I can recommend "Lust Academy". It has a 3 seasons atm and is ongoing.

I like there to be characterization and depth, along with sufficient common sense and reactions from the male or female protagonists to the various situations they find themselves in, to make them relatable and realistic to a degree. Specifically, I dislike games that focus exclusively on sex from the very first minute. If I am going to invest from a couple to a few dozen hours into a game, I want it to have enough buildup to make me care. I can always read doujins or watch videos if I want quicker access to the good stuff. There are always exceptions, of course, like various simulator and trainer games where the goal is to train the girl...

I think romance goes great with adult games, as it clearly has the potential to elevate a games overall quality... However, it can also turn a decent game into complete garbage. Writing ability, pacing and characters are extremely important, if any are lacking to a significant degree, the romance becomes pointless, forgettable, and can even feel like a chore to read.
Also, a game can't force a relationship to develop. I've played a couple games where the relationship was building at a fairly reasonable pace, but the developer got impatient and wanted to force a sex scene. As such, they add a new, more slutty, character into the game and that character pushed the relationship ahead by several levels, completely destroying any build up and the pacing.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm working on a game that have a lot of choices regarding the sexual content. It could have romance for those who like them, it could have just sex with different characters or even it could avoid all sexual content, which is actually something that I never find in other adult games, if you just want to see the story and like the gameplay. I'll say more - without the romantic content, the game ceases to exist for me. I'm not interested in pure pornography - there are torrent trackers with millions of available porn videos for that. I care about the characters, their backgrounds, and the process of building relationships. I'll call it erotica, although I have nothing against explicit scenes during the development of the plot. I'm a very big fan of slowburn plots, and the most annoying thing is when sex occurs after a few minutes of gameplay.
I agree with you. If you're going to spend a lot of hours playing a game you will care about the story, the characters and so on, not just the sexual content.

What I'd recommend to eroticview (gamedev) in regards to game development, is to have a proper script written up beforehand of all the things that the game is and is going to be, features and genre included. And then just systematically work at it, updating at regular intervals of your choosing. Say that you have a handful of girls and routes. Well, you know exactly what those routes are going and not going to be. So all you have to do then is write the proper dialogue and devise the gameplay, posing, scenes themselves, and so on... Following such script with minimal or no deviation will ensure that your initial vision and consistency are preserved, instead of the game derailing and going all over the place. Also, be sure to work within reason, or even if you become successful, you'll become just another never-ever project.

I actually have a script before I started to work on my game. I did pretty much everything you mention: I planned all the features and what the genre is. My game, as fun as it may sound, is kinda like persona, san andreas and undertale with adult content.
Is similar to persona because it have roleplaying with dating sim, besides having other realities that you go through like persona 4 and 5, and here are some picture to see:

and there's freedom in my game already; you can explore the town, date, fight or you can continue the story.
And here's the funniest part: is similar to undertale only in the way you play different routes. You have 3 different paths with all the different women you can date, here are the sample of the routes:
So, I don't know if you actually play it, but my game already have what you mention. Regarding updates if you look at my patreon page you can see that I've been making updates regularly, even though I have zero patreons, so if I get support to make a full time job I can guarantee that I'll keep making updates regularly and I'll work to make the best adult game possible, or at least I'll try. No just sexual scenes, but also gameplay and story. My idea is to give the players a complety experience that they will remember with great pleasure.

It's still in development; the [abandoned] tag is F95 considering it abandoned (18 months since last release), not the developers. Update from Sunday on their Discord.
Great thanks 4 the info. Though being 18 month without posting any update is along time, something most happened. Besides, is a very ambitious game and being without an update for more than a year it makes difficult to keep the track to the game and makes hard to believe they'll finish the game.
