Why do porno devs want/try to include every conceivable fetish in their projects?

Not rhetorical, I'm genuinely curious because for devs lacking adequate time and resources it's a recipe for abandonment. My working theory is it's a mix of the commercial "common sense" of casting a wide net and feeling like they have to bc others esp successful devs do it. Those two things reinforce each other as well. Feedback from actual game devs would be appreciated. Anyway, that's all I have to say.

Depends. My policy is to include whatever kink I'm into (EXCEPT sissification, which was necessary for certain point on one storyline). The list in my game is long, but it's because I'm just another sick pervert here :devilish:

I meant more like including choice for its own sake even if not separate kinks. Anal vs vaginal, how many girls you're with etc. It burdens devs with more stuff to do and they either 1> grind it out 2> half ass it 3> give up and leave behind a porno gaem with far less fapworthy content on each "path" than there'd be if they limited themselves. In ascending order of likelihood.
I mean, some amount of choice is kind of required for a VN and giving you the choice of how to fuck a girl is a lot less work than actually giving you a narrative choice that results in different content. In some sense this isn't any different from choice based AAA RPGs or whatever. They usually don't give you choices that result in you seeing content you wouldn't have seen had you made a different choice, the choices are usually just in the range of how you interact with the linear content.

I can't escape the feeling that this topic is just another variation on "why do games that I enjoy have fetishes that I don't enjoy?". The answer to that is that developers are people too, and their list of preferred fetishes might not 100% correlate to yours.

Personally, I think that creating a porn game is such daunting undertaking that the game must be fully correlated to the developer's tastes in order for him to relentlessly push forward. Spending time on fetishes which don't turn you on (for commercial reasons) is, ironically, a commercial suicide as it saps the joy out of an otherwise lonely and mostly thankless endeavor.

I'm talking about planning out one's game based on having several paths with dedicated content for each. And I disagree that VNs require some amount of choice. Interactivity sure, but not branching storylines.
So you mean like games that have a maledom and femdom route or love vs. domination, etc? I'm not sure I would call that a branching storyline, but I guess that's semantics. Why do devs do this? I think your original conclusion is only half right. I'm pretty sure it usually isn't because they think including a "fetish" route will lead to more appeal/money, it's the opposite. They want to make a fetish game, but include a vanilla route because they fear the fetish content won't be popular enough.

Of course there are also just devs who enjoy different things and want to make a game with both options.

But does it actually work better in general versus targeting a specific fetish?
That would be hard to say without scanning a lot of statistics.
I think concentrating on one, or as few fetishes as you can, could work only with the popular fetishes.
This will not work with niche fetishes, unless money is not one of your concerns.:coffee:

Shotgun rather than Sniper Approach.

Sniper bullet is extremely effective and precise but you might miss. Shotgun is basically firing loads in a wide remit and hoping some hits with sufficient force to make an effect.

Same with fetishes in games.

Lets say you make a game: Babe's With Big Booty Ass Clappin' Butts. The game is devoted to big butts, twerking, anal sex, facesitting and everything involving those two lovely scoops of booty flakes that are PACKED with flavour.

Now if you're a breast guy, you're out of luck.
If you're a guy into Furry, you're out of luck.
If you're into vaginal, you're out of luck.

Now the ass fans will go WILD and absolutely LOVE the game, but the others are potentially an untapped market. So maybe the dev decided to make a big butt furry girl character, some of the furry crowd (like BaasB ) might pledge now, but it could also backfire and your big ass supporters might leave because they are not into that OR they feel you are getting distracted from the main aim. So it's a tightrope of the approach you want to take.

The biggest thing for me personally which really annoys me is when a dev puts 1, yeah 1 scene in the game just to get the tag. There is one game on here that has the futa/trans tag and it's one scene where a girl wakes up next to a shemale after a night out and that's it. You see nothing of what happened and there are NO FURTHER SCENES.

It depends, I mean the point of the game might be to cater to a wide range of stuff. Or it might be what the dev is into or what they think will be popular.

Personally i include it if I feel the NPC in question is into it. For example if I add footjobs it would only be with a NPC that is into that. Because NPC's if they are like real people will have a variety of fetishes and kinks.

That's an interesting viewpoint, i think this will be good to go with if you want to create an immersive game.:coffee:
That is how I personally try and do it. I have added fetishes or kinks that I am not personally interested in because I felt it fit the NPC's established personality. I think it adds extra depth to NPC's to do that.

You need to take care and make sure you know what you're doing though, it's easy to half-ass a kink if you're not personally interested in it. People who are into that kink, will not appreciate you half-assing it.:coffee:

I always ask at least one person to edit my work and give me feedback and I try to always find someone that is into that stuff to do it, even if it means asking one of our players to play editor for me. No one has complained yet, so seems like I am doing a good enough job with it.
