Because Japanese porn games usually have themes that people actually enjoy with much better looking art that the west simply cannot match the quality of. At the end of the day even the worst hentai games tend to be better than even average and above average western games.

Well that's just an opinion mate, personally I'm not a fan of censored and 2d which are extremely common in Japanese games/porn

I'd say having about 30 or so years of practice might have something to do with it. Or it could be that when one talks about the "best" examples of eroge games you're typically talking about professionally made products that are planned to be released as complete packages at retail, rather than as continual drip-fed minor content releases for as long as the dev feels like it before calling it 'complete' (Gacha games being the obvious exception to that, but if Japanese tiddy-devs are raking in the gacha-cash, then they're probably doing something right.) It also probably doesn't hurt that for the longest time what was getting translated was the cream of the crop, generally done with some proper care by fans no less.
And while currently the floodgates to the machine translatedDMM DLSite games have opened and all the shit is coming through, you could still argue that you've got no lack of choice in your vices.

There are a lot of extremely shit japanese games. And I don't mean "shit" in the weepy sadboy I-don't-like-these-kinks way that's all the rage on these boards, I mean low-quality, low-effort, quick-n-dirty, cheap games.
There's two reasons why Japanese games tend to be of higher quality, though:
1) Japanese games are usually finished. Even the shit ones are technically finished. This is because DLSite doesn't let you sell incomplete games. Western games, on the other hand, often go the Patreon route, where the money doesn't come from finishing a game and selling it, but from monthly payments from dumbasses who hope you'll someday finish your game while directly incentivizing you to never do that. Which is why SO MANY Western games are unfinished, but almost no Japanese games are.
2) Japan has a mature porn game industry. The West doesn't. This means there are big Japanese companies making porn games, like Alicesoft and Illusion, while Western porn games are made by one dude, or a small team. Western games simply cannot reach the polish and content of the best Japanese games, because their devs just don't have the resources or the manpower.
The second point will probably change as porn games gain more legitimacy in the West. The first, who knows.

Japanese Porn isn't "commonly" censored. It's ALWAYS censored. That is the law forced by the U.S after WW2 which stated: "no porn allowed." And that law is still in effect. Because it doesn't harm their industry, Japan never bothers to change it.

A matter of taste, I guess. I wouldn't play a censored game with characters with eyes the size of saucers for all the money in world.

You might just be a weeb. No offence, but many people, who consumed this stuff for years forget that japanese style is very particular and tropey and can be hard to get into at first.

Tried a couple of them. I wouldn't say they make the best porn games since I'm more into western games myself, but they do have some elements that aren't very common in the western scene such as:
1- The depth of the story, especially if you're playing a game where "adult/sex scenes" aren't the main focus. A game like

instantly comes to mind.2 - A lot of their games also have a (very) long playtime, if that's your thing.
3- Render/Image quality is usually top-notch unless you're playing something a bit older.
But what I didn't like was the "censored" part of the equation. Also, translation isn't always the best.
A very biased opinion. I would even say that their regular games leave a lot to be desired too, unless of course you're a fan of anime, lack of proportion and common sense and constant rolling. As for the porn, it's utterly disgusting, unless of course you're a fan of bullying, humiliation, blackmail and rape, and that irritating high-pitched squeals. The only thing you can watch is erotica with models because they look good - petite and flat-chested.
Can you give me an example? Because all I can think of is a drawn manga style, like Koikatsu. Or do they have games with visuals on the level of Dark Souls or Resident Evil?
The crazy censoring sucks and it's very common. That's why I usually pass on them, unless the theme or story REALLY catches my attention.
