Though I get some random 5 second freeze during my run.
That sounds a lot like the autosave function. Its always set to "Never" for me, but it could be one of the persistent settings I changed a while back. Should be under "game" settings at the top.

slight glitch i've come across: when i pick up a card for the card deck, while having map co-ords and game time on screen, i lose the ability to bring up the menu (ESC key default) this has happened with cards of rare, uncommon, and common rarity and with the card found in the desert ruins between the row of stone columns (on a rocK) as well as with the card found in the ruined village north-northeast of the fishing shack (in a broken wagon)
this happened at level 6 without using dev console to increase stats as well as after having cheated my way to level 42
i have not tested to see if map co-ords or in-game time have an impact yet

running windows 10 with graphics set to DX11 in fullscreen mode

EDIT: tried adjusting a few of the settings, still same glitch. deleted game folder and the auto-generated one under users\..\appdata\local and reinstalled. without changing any settings, the same thing still occurs. collecting a card prevents you from accessing game menu.

I appreciate the help, but I'm not interested enough to go through all of that just to try it out. I'll just skip out on this one and consider it a loss. I doubt it's an issue with my machine, I can run about any AAA game I want to with tons of mods without any stutters, I highly doubt the opening menu of a game is going to cause my machine to completely fail like this.
Generally when the UI stops responding, it has to do with the games resolution or windowing mode. I have had reports of it happening a few players before and changing screen resolution or changing from windowed to full screen seems to have fixed it.
I have never been able to duplicate the issues myself, not sure what is causing them as it seem very dependent on the players setup.
What resolution do you try to run the game at?

memory leak. we'll have to wait for a patch to get the issue resolved.

Go into a dungeon. It resets the bug and also auto saves at the entrance.
That quicksave/auto save bugs the crap out of me.
(Don't worry, I am not complaining to you about it, just using your post as an opportunity to break out my soap box and vent a tiny bit.)

It isn't that it causes me issues or problems, it is just that it clogs up my save list.
I usually have about 3 to 4 saves for 'roll back' options if I need it, but the game spams out quick saves like candy and I can have a dozen of the damn things in my save list.
I can delete them (and I do), but it just bugs me that there isn't an option completely disable any and all auto/quick saves.

I agree with you 100%. The saves are important at those points that it does autosave, but I have seen other games that limit the number of autosaves created and then start saving over the oldest one every time. Could be that doing that is not supported in UE, I have no idea. It just is very convenient in games that have it.

But can I say, I have not seen much if any talk about building in this game. I spend nearly half my time doing it and I'm still surprised at how well done it is. Reminds me of No Mans Sky a lot with many of the same types of basic building parts I used there. I just thought something like this would be more appreciated and discussed is all. I realize I have not said anything about it either, but I've mainly been waiting for someone to show interest.

I have made a couple houses in the game, over the various versions. However, there were a fair number of updates where building anything was pretty well fucked.
I reached a point where I just stopped trying. I would build a semi-circle wall around a chunk of the beach, between the fisherman and the wrecked ship hull, and I just called it quits there. Building was so buggy, I had kind of written it off.

/Pulls out my soap box

Parts of your building would just disappear when you went out exploring and came back. Doors would refuse to mount, refuse to open/close, or just randomly disappear. If you built anything near the 'obvious' fisherman's hut, crap would just vanish or be non functional. House sections or crafting tables would just arbitrarily fall through the map, as you are placing it or right after you placed it. The game would just crash on you if you had built/placed too many pieces in a single build session.
It really soured me on trying to build anything in this game.

I did build a house in the most recent version (0.8.5.7) and it miraculously stayed around. Even the doors worked properly. But there is one glaring problem for me.

How in the fuck are you supposed to fill in those goddamned 45 degree angles at the ends of the roofs?
Normal walls will close them off, but it looks like garbage and I could never finagle any of the available pieces to actually cover up the gaps without it looking like crap.
HighresScreenshot00005.png

A full sized 45 degree wall piece would be perfect, but there isn't one in the game. Those tiny 1/4 sized angle pieces just refuse to be placed next to and on top of each other.
If the Dev took a normal wall segment and split it in half, diagonally, and put both pieces into the build menu, it would be great. I refuse to make a house that is nothing more than a square box.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am willing to try it.

Another thing that bugs the shit out of me about building things is trying to build a wall around my home, to make a 'castle', but the the ground is so uneven that I end up with these janky, uneven wall sections.
I built a wall around the house in the image. It had a beautiful 2m high wall on the back, however, to keep the top of the wall level, I had a 10cm wall once I got to the front of the house. Just ... damn!

The worst thing that happened to me was when I had tried placing a stone tower on one of the corners of the house. It just happened to intersect with one of my chests inside the house (I didn't realize it) and when I deleted the building piece (it looked like crap), it deleted the chest ... and every single piece of ore and metal bars that I had accumulated up to that point.
I .... I had to 'put the mouse down' and step away for a while.

Yea thats one of the parts I was saying is missing from the parts menu. It seems you went through the rough times with building so I didn't have to. I held off from playing this when it was first released on this site because of stuff like that just gets too frustrating for me so I wait.
Good thing about the building is you have a lot of freedom with freely placing things versus snapping them. The snaps aren't always very well placed so I tend to manually place a lot of things. Mainly different parts meshing together need manual placement a lot, but then identical parts will snap together very well.
For those 45 degree parts needed to join the roof I used the small angled parts and overlapped them in one area, and in another I used them as well but didn't overlap them and also used the low wooden fence to fill in the blank. The latter doesn't look as good because the fences are crooked a little making the wall look uneven.

The stone structures are better IMO but they have their issues as well. Also, wooden structures don't look right built over water, but the stone structures look good over water.

Yeah, you were probably better off to wait on playing this game. There were some really frustrating updates. The current update seems pretty solid, it still has some bugginess to it, but it is nothing like some of the previous updates.

Good to know that I am not alone in the thoughts about the angled pieces.

I could never get those small angled pieces to play nice for me. I tried placing them with the snapping on and with the snapping off and they would never go where I wanted them to. Usually what I ended up with was a piece that always insisted on placing itself about 6" away from the wall or piece I was trying to align it to. I may give it another go and see what I can do, but I am probably going to just accept an 'open' layout for my roof ends.

Those stone buildings you make look fantastic and I may have to give it a try sometime soon.
I never really messed around with the stone pieces, mostly because I have a harder time trying to collect up enough stone to build something. I may just break down and use the cheat menu to spawn a few tons of stone, but I tend to not use the cheat menu unless I am stuck on something.

If you hold left shift while scrolling it will raise or lower the part unless its snapped. Even then it can change position sometimes. But you can try moving the crosshair dot thing into position and raise/lower where you want, or you can start much higher or lower depending on the circumstance. For example, lets say you want to manually place a window inside the window opening (they snap but for purpose of example). You can try placing it on the bottom of the window opening, or start on the roof for a different spot and lower into the opening, or start way under the window and raise it to the opening. Sometimes the one you want isn't working so just try a different surface higher or lower. You can even create your temporary surface by placing a wooden or stone floor piece or something like that in a good position then deleting it afterwards. Sometimes its just the first piece that needs help in positioning then the rest can snap to the first piece like for floors or the roof or stairs going up the side of a mountain. Although the stairs don't snap perfectly (still good enough tho), but they are easy to position manually.

Placing the paintings on walls can be tricky too. Start at the floor where the wall meets the floor and hit that spot right before you touch the wall, then raise into desired position and it will stay on the wall.

Also, you get a fuck ton of stones by mining the rocks thats all around the map. Looks like limestone boulders. I saved up all the stones from mining iron and then went after regular stone boulders and still have about 4 stacks I didn't use yet.

Thanks. I did know about the trick of trying different surfaces and directions to get a building piece to snap to it, but I did not know about being able to hold shift to raise or lower a piece some.

I don't have issues placing 99% of the building pieces. I built a 'scaffold' alongside of one of those Wildling towers, just to see what was in the top area (sadly nothing), so I have figured out quite a few ways to jigger the building pieces to make them do things I want them to.
It is just those damned, small, 45 angle pieces, and trying to make a perfectly smooth flat wall around my homes I make.

I would love for the option to throw down a 12x12 grid (10x10 would be fine as well) that makes a patch of land absolutely flat. That way I could have a nice roomy home about 7x7, have a 1x1 or 2x2 space around the house and then at the very edge a nice, straight, perfect barrier wall.

Done some work to make the forest parts of the map look more lush and forest like. Due to some other changes it should still perform better than in the last update.

I can not upload the Videos because the smallest one is over 32MB

Still no animation alignment fix eh?
