I think it mostly comes down to how the RenpyPy's backward/forward system works: it's designed for narrative games ^^
As in WTM almost everything is generated runtime, if it skips one step (which RenPy absolutly does, notably when going backward in menus), the game has incomplete informations and crashes
But when only going forward, I've never encountered such crashes, it's always when playing with the backward thing.
Is it related to the compressed version of the game (Asenaris) ?
