Checking the blog, the game gets regular updates quite frequently. What happened with it? All i heard was people complaining the code isn't great but who cares?I thought this game was completely dead after everything that happened.?

Huh... that really surprised me... I thought the game was finished... or rather abandoned after it came out what a disgusting pervert the developer was and had been messing around with minors...
less that more it's been a shittily coded grift done by a deeply unpleasant person (even when leaving the nonce bit aside) that's been going on for what, 10+ years?
it's basically a (code-wise, of course, not feature-wise) bloated scam
So this is the only game that is older than Summertime Saga in this site that still in active development and in fact it already passed 11 years at this point(and still counting). Any 12-14 years old girls at that time who obsessed with this game already graduated high school and currently in their last year in their colleges or universities today. Some already married and have kids. They matured much faster than this game and its creator. In other words its a 2010s game made by someone who still mentally trapped in 2000s. Everyone else already move on long time ago.
Difference is that I can legally profit off of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon blowing up minors by buying their stocks but if I watch an indie dev blows one I'll get arrested.

I wouldn't get invested in this one for sure, the only way this game will get "finished" is if he just decides he can't be bothered one day and declares it complete.
He blatantly doesn't care about finishing it, he makes a point about responding to emails about the game and uses that as a reason for why it takes so long to make it.
As in he apparently responds to EVERY email people send him, even just people who are trolling, given how ingrained this is in internet pop culture you can imagine that's probably thousands of emails that he for some reason "has to" respond to when he should just ignore them and make the game.
Anyway this video will clue you in:
