Yo, I wanna make posts about my porn game to get criticism and attention for my game but I've never really used forums before and don't want to end up being intrusive or annoying.
  • Do I make a new post every time I have an update for my game, or should I just reply to one post?
  • How do I get those annotation things under my posts?
  • and anything else I should know as a game dev on forums or just general forum etiquette? even if its super obvious I dont know shit so any advice is cool (y)

also, heres some of the sprite art I made for the game

1) AFAIK, you just edit your first post every time you've made a new update (new DL links etc).

2) I assume you mean signatures - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Go to your profile (upper right corner), click on it and you'll see a button that says "SIGNATURE". Click on it and you can add one.

3) Common sense, pretty much. Ask if you have questions, don't start a shit show because you don't like the dev or OP (original poster) of a thread and try to be active in your community - there's nothing people hate more than a dev that never updates their games, regardless of how much or little they bring in (see Summertime Saga, for a perfect example - at the time I'm writing this, STS brings in ~$75k. Per month. And update the game maybe 3-4 times a year, if that.) Also, if your game gets reviewed, read it. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad. It might be bugs that haven't been pointed out or something similar.

It has happened that games have been review bombed (often by trolls and/or other types of idiots) but people who just give 1 star reviews saying "bad"... yeah, ignore them. The shorter the review, the less important they tend to be I find.

I mean there are rules, so that'd be your first stop.

As for how you update your game that'd be upto you, but you'll keep it in the same thread. Update the first post with the latest links so people can find it, but not all games update the first post with the change log of what's new so that seems like dealers choice. Definitely should make a new post in your thread when updating so people know it's update and you bring it back to the top of people's attentions.

Guide on how to post your game here:
https://f95zone.to/threads/game-uploading-rules-2019-06-25.524/

In general it's usually best to start with an "in development" post, either in the General Discussion or the Programming/Development section. Use that to post Work in Progress stuff, pre-release demos, advertise your discord and recruit testers. Then once you're ready (and I'd *really* recommend you have at least an hours worth of game before you throw it to the wolves), it's been tested and proof-read by your helpers on Discord, then you post your game, and get ready for the fire-storm.
