Your Dream Game Idea That Never Was?

What's an idea for a game you had that you never ended up following through on developing, either because it was too ambitious, you lacked fundamental skills to pull it off, or perhaps because you simply didn't see it being financially lucrative enough to dedicate your time to? Because boy do I have a few.

Got so many ideas that never went anywhere. Mainly due to time. One Sci fiction and the other a Sci fiction with a bit of middleage fantasy in it. (sounds weird but makes sense with the story).

But I don't want to be one of those devs that have several projects going on at the same time. One for now is more than enough

Haha i have one that's combining two ridiculous and played out tropes into a serious and unique experience, with gameplay that's actually representative of a game. But this will be my baby project and PT is where I continue developing my skills in order to be ready to tackle this ambitious work in a year.

Before my current one, I spent a bit of time plotting out a pirate themed game. On paper it had a lot of promise. Male Protag sailing the seven seas, pillaging, pirating and enslaving....but the technical and graphical aspects were just -way- beyond me

Man, you don't need to have ever actually developed a game to have one of these running around. You could make a ball-pit out of video gamers, and any one you pulled out would have some idea they'd make if they could.

What do you mean they are beyond you, do you mean like you don't have a powerful PC? because that plot is really good, and if you could work on it, it would a lot better

Thanks, but aye (or should that be aaaaargh? ;)). Yep PC just not up to it, so purely technical limitations. Once I started throwing in heavy assets like ships and seas etc no way sadly could I keep up a reasonable production line of content. One day, maybe though..... :)

Violated Heroine, a somewhat obscure RPG Hentai game made by a bunch of xenophobic Japs. Abandoned by many of the developers, always free and never for sale, picked at here and there by fans who tried to resuscitate it.

It's pretty well and dead now, but what it does right it does so right. If it had been finished, it would have been the perfect combination of plot and porn. Can't count how many times I fapped to it. It never will be though :'c

ps: I wrote all that without understanding it was a thread for games 'we' thought of, lol. Still, my answer remains.

Still, have one but it's something that would need a good budget, a few writers, 3D artists. I could keep going

I won't rule it out entirely yet, so it's more on a permanent backburner, but I'd love to make a Fantasy RPG game using 2D art from someone who's really skilled and has the style I'd like. This alone is enough reason for it to be unattainable, because I'd need funding to pay the artist. That said, it would probably also require a good Unity dev or something, because I'd rather not use RPGM and while I know I could code one in Ren'Py it would probably suffer for it.

I thought about making it anyway in 3D, but after looking around for assets realized that I'd probably need to hire a 3D artist instead, because a lot of the central necessities of the main character, look like shit or don't have assets in Daz.

Well since this is the pipe dream of pipe dreams that I came up with conceptually when I was in my teens... it's also not a porn game :p.

An MMORPG that took inspirations from Granado Espada, Final Fantasy VI(or III as it was in the U.S.A), and Lineage 2. Where I wanted to take the controlling multiple characters concept from Granado Espada with the idea of cataclysmic events that would reshape the very world that you played in from FFVI and castles/locations that would be fought over like in Lineage 2 (castle sieges probably already done in an earlier MMO I didn't play).

There were two factions vying for control of the world and if one became more powerful than another for an extended period of time it would trigger events by stages that would reshape the world. Eventually these events would culminate with the destruction of the world if balance was not restored between the two factions, essentially forcing a server transfer/reset (I'm not sure which is was anymore it was 20 years ago ).

I knew this was beyond my capabilities and looking back on it now I think even with the technological advances we've made that creating this thing would be a fucking nightmare :ROFLMAO:.

Still have one. Actually 2. The first I'd like to treat it as a practice to the second. It's a fun game, a major fuck-you to the usual incest games. Something like that. The second one is like a Percy Jackson parody. But I don't know the first thing about art or programming. Sure I've got Daz3D installed and all that but I don't know the very first step to take (maybe some developers could tell your experience about starting could give me some pointers?). Also I have a laptop which I know is not suitable for rendering at all. But I'm young, maybe sometime in the future it might happen.

Games I like to do once? Something like "second live" simulator. You can go where you want and do what you want. But with graphic that looks like from 21.st century not like from dark age. :D Ideal with Multiplayer support. :D

If it's any help...neither did I six months ago. So don't let that put you off at all.

I dont know if I'm the best person to give any pointers (as one of the newest devs here) but for what it's worth I worked out my story first, decided what I wanted the game to look like and do - and then learned how to do it. So rather than build a game on what I could do, I let the game design lead me in what I had to learn.

I'll be honest, this led to a lot of false starts (I've a ramble of development blog elsewhere on this forum but it is -very- rambly so probs not that useful) but now? Well now I'm seeing what I actually wanted to see rather than having let my skills at the start compromise me.

As to rig set up, I know an 8Gb 1070 card is usually quoted as the minimum but a lot of my early renders were done on a 2Gb so don't let that put you off either :)

Feel free to shoot me a message on Discord with any Daz questions. I may not be making Milfy City quality but will be able to help you up on your feet.

Don't sell yourself short man, your stuff is pretty great. Icstor has been doing this for a while. They didn't start with the same quality they have right now. Maybe given time, you might surpass them.
You're great at writing character interactions though, if that makes you feel any better. :)
