Using nothing more than a text editor (Notepad+) you can alter the maximum ability scores for your MC all the way past 50. Once your agility is past 10 or so pretty much nothing will ever hit you. You still have level up like normal, but by level 5 you'll be able to solo most of the early encounters and by level 10 you'll be able to solo anything in the game, including the final cave boss.

As for surviving those first few levels, it's not really that hard. You get one free loyal slave at game start, so just make them an orc and pick "physical" for their perk. Ta-da, instant fighter. You'll still have to buy bandages and heal through sleeping for the first week or so, but like I said, once you get your agility past 10 you won't need any extra help at all ever again - at least for combat.
I think editing a starting character to begin the game with double the max possible agility most of the characters in the game can obtain when they are maxed out would fall under the "cheat massively" category that my post started with. In this game levels give absolutely nothing (yes, it gives the 2 stat points, but no inherent HP boosts, increased chance to hit, or anything like that). If you are manually changing the stats to anything that you want then level 1, level 5, level 1000 are all the exact same power.

If I simply wanted to sleepwalk through every fight I could give my character armor of 50 and a cannon weapon that does 500 area damage to all opponents with no cooldown between shots. Not my idea of what I'm looking for in a game... Might be funny for 5 minutes to go around and 1-shot all foes, but if I don't need energy, mana, and don't lose health, heck, I might never have cause to make it back to my mansion. (I cheat or save-scum at times same as many people. I'm not knocking the activity. Games should not require it in order to play though.)

Sure there are ways to survive the game with or without cheating. There are a ton of ways to cheat to get past early game. If one wants to play it cleanly though most ways won't work. My goal with the weapon mod was to add something to the game that felt like it naturally belongs with the game as it currently exists. It is an attempt to make fighting in the early stages actually possible, although by no means certain, while hopefully not putting in a huge loophole that breaks later fights.

Heck, a simple suit of chainmail is enough to reduce incoming damage from most early foes to 1. No need to go beyond that with cheating. So just a few hundred extra gold to start and it switches to fairly easy.

I am playing it on Windows 10
The exact steps is that I just press on to the name of one of my slaves, go to customize, and then I press the portraits button to change the portrait and that is when it starts happening
I play it in windowed mode and when I launch the game, the black box shows up with it
The game just freezes, I hear music, but other then that I can't press anything else and it shows that it is not responding
I don't remember I many I had the first time it happened, because I added more later, when I found a better pack, but the first pack is the one I got from here by I think something linker, its in the op and is the one which has portraits and bodies
Yes, they were working before, but after a week it started to not work anymore
I did play it without images before and was working good
No, I have not tried re-downloading the game, but I am going through my images and lowering the amount that I have, to see if they work then
Yes, I looked at the images outside of the game
Just based on the description you are giving it sounds to me like maybe there are just a lot of images or really large images or both. The game is not efficient at all when it comes to how it works with the portraits. As soon as you click the button to choose a portrait it starts grabbing every single file inside the pointed to folder and loading it into memory (as well as all the files in sub-folders). The game will effectively lock-up until it finishes processing and loading every single image. The slower your computer/less memory you have and the more images and bigger the images, the longer the process will take (and the more likely it will run out of computing power before it completes).

Navigate to the folder outside of the game (the appdata/roaming/strive/ location) and right-click on it. Choose "properties." Then check what the pop-up window says for size on disk. If you are in the 10-20MB range, or even in the 100-200MB range you probably have nothing to worry about. If the size is more like 2GB... well that's probably your problem. But it's easy enough to test that. Whatever the size, just temporarily move a bunch of the images somewhere else and try running the game again. If the game runs fine and lets you access the images, then that is your problem. If it still breaks, without being able to see it happen or reproduce it myself I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Did you install any mods? Or modify any files yourself? Or are you just using the game straight out of the box, plus various images?

Yeah still dont know what the problem was but I finished the quest. I dont know what affected it but i think the slave has to have a high natural beauty without any enhancements done so if it is lower then 40 it wont be accepted even if you have upgradeD thier looks past that threshold since soon after i got one, that had a beauty trait he immediately took it lol
glad it worked for you (eventually).

I have a couple of mods that are made to help you out if you have a lot of portraits, but I added them after this started happening as a hope of a fix, but nothing changed and ya, I'm checking the bodies and portrait folders and the bodies are at 257MB and the portraits are at 50.7MB.

I haven't tested this, but I'm fairly certain that the game only remembers 1 directory (and all of its children) at a time. It still remembers what images have already been selected for characters, simply doesn't keep track of all the possible characters. You may be able to distribute your images over several directories (like portraits, portraits1, portraits2) such that the game never tries to load all of your images at the same time. Not the cleanest of solutions, especially since the game must load the current selection before you can change the selection to a different directory. Never the less, a "not the best" solution is certainly better than a game that crashes and can not be played at all. Although this wouldn't work if you want the game to auto-assign images for you. But if you are doing that you could skip clicking the portraits button to begin with.

As a separate thought, depending on how your images are currently organized (multiple levels of directories and long file names), it is possible that the game is actually dying on too long of a path name.

Forgive me for being stupid, but where do i place the portraits and bodies folders?
Not sure why it isn't in the OP, but probably the most common question here.
1) For answers to most questions, all the mods, and all the portrait packs, check out the main website/forum at Itch.io -
2) copied from a post there:
  • "Where i need to place them?" - "C:\Users\userName\AppData\Roaming\Strive" or %appdata%\Strive - press win+r keys and paste it or just type in address bar. There's a "portraits" and "bodies" folder in that "Strive" folder.
  • Alternatively, within the game you can click on Portraits or "Full Body Image", then click the right side button that says "Open System Folder" - it will open the actual folder that you can then drag the portraits and body images into

From what I understand, mansion upgrade points are gained from main quests and selling captured slaves after they been trained.
How do you make captured slaves not angry at you and sellable? Just keep in jail?

A few ways. Initially I keep them in jail until they're no longer angry at you. Buying the jail upgrades helps, as does having a good jailer. While in jail try abusing them to get their fear up.
Once in your mansion, meet them frequently and make them love you - increases obedience and loyalty. Sex helps if you don't stress them out.
Maid. Uniforms. On. Everyone.

Is there any way to edit the files so you have more options as races to play in story?
Yes quite easily. All the files that you download are easily edited in Notepad or Notepad++ (or, obviously, any text editor). Starting races is tricky - I think you have to edit at least two locations, and a third if you want a special starting bonus (I think it defaults to the human bonus otherwise). In Notepad++, my literal favourite feature is "find in files" - searches all the files in the folder and helps you figure out what to edit. For instance, search for "demon" and find where demon is listed as part of the list of starting races. Then add Centaur/Slime/Dragonkin and go to town.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up figuring it out with this help.

Possible mistake with a sidequest/mechanic:

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Also I got questions!
Trapper description says 50% chance to capture escaping person, does that use rope out of your inventory or is free rope?
How do you increase characters stats? Like if it says charm 37/75?
