RustyV, being a teenager and portraying a teenager is not the same thing. The author is a talented programmer. But part of the story is absolutely weak. He has no experience in adult relationships. He only relies on his imagination and a Hollywood flare. You can't write a great war novel without going to war. At least he turned to the Japanese. Here is where masters of such descriptions. It's a very good question! Dev never post this directly but he gave some hints that yes, Sofia and Dylan will have sexual content. Moreover, content of specific scenes will depend on Dylan's attitude about Sofia's interactions with other boys.
