So when the 1.5.9 gonna be posted? I assume this is going to be the bigger update, and will continue from the spaceship etc

No clue, I get my version from here like everyone else.
The reason I know 1.5.8 is only bug fixes is because I just finished the code review/merge for 1.5.8 into the Gallery mod, and it was just fixes (some I already made in the gallery mod) in the code.

Is it just me or is this shooting mini-game way too fast? I'm normally pretty decent at this mini-game as MITY has used it twice now, but I can't even win this one, let alone 100% it.

It still took me like 20 tries to get a perfect run. The alien ships are so damn big and your range to shoot them is so small.
