The '4chan is a honeypot' is an internet joke. 4chan got hacked by some chuds over at soyjak.party, and that seems easy enough to verify (e.g. the return of the /qa board before 4chan went offline). Anything beyond that and you're trusting one side of an internet blood feud to give you accurate information about the other side of the blood feud. This is why you're a bridge collector. If you're this fucking credulous, you buy every bridge that comes your way.

Death threats by anonymous getting prosecuted, therefore FBI honeypot? Fuck no. Are you high? The FBI just needs to request whatever user information 4chan had on them (like IP addresses, no one there is truly anonymous), and go from there. Hell, there might have been a mod or a few that proactively reported such threats to the authorities so as to avoid critical attention; don't need an insider conspiracy to explain that. There are already dozens of practically identical clones of 4chan on different domains around the internet, it's not like the "brand" is dead or anything. This is just an old website that already was a shell of its former self going down, it's not the dead of imageboard culture or anything like that.

Also, it's not like you need a degree in nuclear engineering to make a 4chan clone. That thing is as barebones as it can get in terms of UI and back-end, the only thing stopping people from creating more clones is not giving a shit
