Sure thing bridge collector. The Satanic Panic was a conspiracy, instead of the result of perfectly mundane factors colliding to make a not-at-all-uncommon conservative Christian freak-out. The '4chan is a honeypot' is an internet joke. 4chan got hacked by some chuds over at soyjak.party, and that seems easy enough to verify (e.g. the return of the /qa board before 4chan went offline). Anything beyond that and you're trusting one side of an internet blood feud to give you accurate information about the other side of the blood feud. This is why you're a bridge collector. If you're this fucking credulous, you buy every bridge that comes your way.

Death threats by anonymous getting prosecuted, therefore FBI honeypot? Fuck no. Are you high? The FBI just needs to request whatever user information 4chan had on them (like IP addresses, no one there is truly anonymous), and go from there. Hell, there might have been a mod or a few that proactively reported such threats to the authorities so as to avoid critical attention; don't need an insider conspiracy to explain that. Anyone dumb enough to make death threats on 4chan thinking that being 'anonymous' there was any form of protection are the same people who think Chrome's Incognito mode makes you invisible on the internet. These are not especially smart people. You don't need a fucking conspiracy to explain them fucking up and getting caught. Plus if the Feds are supposed to be these super-competent conspiracy masterminds that ran this honeypot for years without anyone knowing, how come 4chan's version of PHP was over a decade out-of-date, allowing for the site to be compromised to begin with?

You see, you are making a fucking oil-tanker's worth of baseless assumptions, all of which need to be true (and some of which are contradictory), to support your cockamamie conspiracy. I don't. Some dipshist on the internet are lying about some internet drama, and that's my opinion until there is substantial and verifiable evidence to the contrary. Claims require evidence, and extraordinary claims (e.g. 4chan is a Fed honeypot filled with Feds and university staff exclusively) require extraordinary evidence (e.g. a whole lot more than anonymous hearsay from the victors of an internet blood feud).

I said something like that at the start of this thread. There already are a shitton of imageboard scripts available around the internet for anyone to use, and anyone with basic programming skills also can set up a brand new imageboard from scratch if they wanted to, that kind of software it's not complex at all. There are hundreds of smaller and nicher imageboards around already.

But you are right about not much people giving a shit about imageboards these days, though. It seems that most people today prefer either microblogging or instant messaging platforms, given how much of the alternative/non-corporate social networking landscape looks like.
