You need to have a feather of firebird equipped. It will be consumed, but you'll revive with full health, either at the spot where you landed or a safe place near that spot.

I see. Just started the game but I avoided death from falling once. Not sure how but maybe its a bug and I can't pull that off again. Where can I get the feather?

"resurrection feathers" "drop" most often from flowers on the first floor of the "abyss".

If you fall to the "surface" with HP damage, then you need "skull rings" [Hanged Man's Bone Ring], they reduce the damage from falling by half. 1 ring will reduce the damage from 999 to 499, 2 rings will reduce the damage to 249, 3 rings - 125.
First ring can be obtained in the mine (you need to ride the minecarts correctly and be able to shoot a bow), the second ring can be found on the secret platform with the first boss (you will have to fall, you can't get it without some items)

The rest of the rings drop randomly when objects are destroyed or from a strange gacha.

If you are trying to get to the floor with lava, then you may need "boots of the fallen mage" and "resurrection feather"
